    found a 1988 honda shadow vt800 for 200$(CAD).57000km it had been sitting for a while and wouldn't start. my first bike had to learn everything about carbs. cleaned this baby up, changed all the liquids, filters rebuilt the carb and on Dec 25th (yesterday) I listened to it proudly coming back to life and its a beauty. my whole life has changed in a few months, no wonder riders have this such strong emotional connection to these machines.

    Never had a problem finding good bikes for less then 3k. I just purchased a 07 FZ1000 for my son for 2400. I know that isn't really a starter, however I found dozens in and around the area I live for less then 3k that are well taken care of and great starter bikes.

      GREAT sport bike... Yamaha last forever if maintained .. parts still plentiful, my son just got his permit...next he'll take his MSF course.. look for something around 400-500cc..Insurance costs more a month than the payment of your financing .... I've ridden everything like everybody else.. what's the point in owning a ZX14 that goes darn near 100 mph is 1st gear .. the Panigale V4 S was insane.. The one bike that was beyond cool was my friends Rocket III w/ a Carpenter Racing 265 HP kit ... in a straight line NOTHING I mean not a flocking thing touched it... It's about CHEAP USED motorcycles and the Daytona 955i is most befitting .. well kept secret among enthusiasts

    I did. Got myself a £1600 professionally reconditioned sv650 that had previously been crashed as a cat d writeoff. The belt pan was the only thing damaged. Replaced by Leicester suzuki and then I got it. 3 years later and 30000 miles on it and I sold it for just as much as I paid for it!
    I do still miss that bike somewhat having owned litre bikes etc.

    Picked up an 08 buell blast for $600. 1700 miles on it, oil was gelled up, didn't want to start. Put a battery in it, cleaned the carbs, changed the oil about 3 times in the last 200 miles and she's doing great. There's a lot of little stuff that needs to be done but after putting some new tires on it and doing some maintenance (that people should do anyways when buying a used bike) she's perfect. Definitely shows her age once in a while but I've been tinkering with stuff since I was in high school so that's alright with me.

    My buddy just bought a 2007 Harley Dyna Street Bob (whatever that means) with 20k miles for $3k. Most of them are going for $6-8 right now so it's a damn good deal. Even though I'm not a fan of potato bikes myself, and I'm begrudgingly letting it winter next to my CBR1000 in the garage, still gotta admit it's a good buy.

    • @Dangerwiggles
      @Dangerwiggles Před rokem +1

      @@dimagulco5916 a lot of people say they don't like the weight of the 1k compared to the 650. The 1k also is harder to find specific parts for and has a magneto issue that the 650 does not have. It does have more power, and is a ton of fun. Really the 650 is worth more, typically, so I wouldn't pay over $4k for a 1k. 650 is more reliable overall. If you already have a 650 you might not get much out of the 1k to be honest. Cheap power, but if you want more power you might be better off with a different platform instead of a 650 and 1k.
      Only reason I have both is because I started with the 1k and got the 650 because it's cheap and makes a better track bike for smaller tracks. I wasn't getting much over 3rd gear on my 1k, and it is a phat ass.

    The carburetor issue can not be overstated. Easily 80% of cheaper carb bikes for sale have been rotting for YEARS with ethanol gas in them and no fuel stabilizer. Many sellers have no awareness of this stuff or think it’s normal to have to rev a bike for 5 minutes so it doesn’t die or don’t realize their bike is only running on one cylinder etc.

    Found a 2009 V Star Classic that looks exactly like my first bike for $2999. Only has a little over 10k on the Odometer and looks garage kept. Oh the memories. I had a '98 and that little thing took me everywhere without any issues.

    Don't buy what you don't need. Like a 6th gear and fuel injection. You need the most perfect fun motocycle ever:Suzuki DRZ400.

    • @basmca1
      @basmca1 Před rokem +1

      Lmao yea i very much need both of those if possible.
      DRZ400 is a dirtbike? Probably very good for people who want a dirtbike, terrible for people who don't.
      I bought my first bike last month, a fuel injected 6th gear having 2007 Yamaha FZ06 for €2700.
      I really don't want to deal with carbs.
      I wanted atleast 70hp.
      There are 0 dirt roads within 50km of my house.
      I want it to be able to go on multy day roadtrips.
      I ride the highway to work which means 6th gear is great for fuel economy and comfort.
      A DRZ400 would be pretty much the worst option possible.

    Not quite under 3k, but I got a 2011 Suzuki Boulevard C50T for $3,200. It only had 1200 miles from the original owner. Extremely clean and came with all of the touring package.

    I bought a 2015 Versys 1000 for 2400 close to 2 years ago. All it needed was tires. All maintenance was up to date and it even had 8 months of Kawasaki extended warranty remaining. No issues with it and I ride it anywhere and everywhere. It was priced that way because it had 60,000 miles! Previous owner rode it Texas to Alaska and all over the country.

    Recently bought a 1995 ZX6r (ZX600f) for 850 EU, with only 27.000 km on it, because it still looked kind of okay. Eventually it took me >2000EU in parts and liquids to get it back in shape again. Brake discs, brakes and forks overhaul, fuel system and tires took the brunt of that, but a lot of other stuff was replaced as well. Good thing that I did all of the work myself, else it would a been a write off
