I pre-ordered the fold 3 upgrading from fold 2. Really want the water resistant and this time I bought the warranty, (first year is free on pre-order). My fold 2 just stopped folding flat. It's never been dropped or abused. Once you own a folding phone it's hard to go back.
I disagree. I have Fold 2, and I hate the external display. It is very narrow, small, and not practical. I switched to the S21 Ultra, and I'm very happy with it. The camera is way better than the Fold.
Great review man! I was honestly surprised at how good the under the screen camera was in a well lit area. Not really any differences. Im a Note 10+ owner and I pre ordered the Fold 3, super excited!! I think the water resistance alone is worth the upgrade in my opinion from the Fold 2.
When I did the math on the credit for my phone trade (Fold 2 - $900), $200 credit towards accessories, the free 12 months of insurance I would otherwise be paying for, the 12% Rakuten cash-back offer ...the phone upgrade itself cost me $448. Improved durability, water resistance and the ability to use the s-pen were the key things I was hoping for, so it was worth it to me. Faster chip, under display cam, 120hz refresh on the outer screen, lower price....all nice bonuses
I ordered a Fold 3 as my first foldable. I was a bit concerned at camera quality coming from a Note 20 Ultra but they look decent enough. Will miss the zooom though, I use it quite a bit.
For someone who never owned a fold , should i get the 2 and save the extra cash? I don't care about the s pen at all , I only care about durability and heavy gaming which i thin the snapdragon 865 do better than the 888 of the zf3.

Yeah they have great hardware, the pictures is still good but could outperform apple instead of being like same level. Also sad that fold 3 didn't get the s21U camera, they cut the price by 200$ which is awesome, but I'd still prefer paying like 100$ extra for it
Excellent video. I'm a galaxy Note guy and will be skipping the Fold. Without the S pen integrated, the front screen being S pen compatible and the camera being much better, as well as the device having a bigger battery, I find it unappealing. Looking forward to the Galaxy Note 2022 ultra super duper extraordinary ultimate real 5G or whatever Samsung chooses to call it.
When they increase the width of the outer screen, give it the S21 ultra cameras, be able to put the S pen in the body then I’ll be interested in the fold….it’s the flagship phone and for the cost it really should have all these. Until then no.
I'm a Note user but I'm switching to the fold. I don't think they'll keep making the Note because of the limitations of having to fit a pen inside the phone. It's really pick your poison, either have the pen fit in the phone, thus it has to be a toothpick, or it's closer to the size of a real pen but can't go into the phone because of it's size.

I don't think people would be happy if they came out with a Note that was twice as thick for the sole purpose of having a larger S Pen. You could throw in a much larger battery and other stuff in the openness inside the phone, but then guess what goes up? 💰 The fold is that thick because it's two phones on top of each other that make a tablet, not really the same. People are willing to trade off thickness for something that becomes a tablet, but thicker just for an S Pen, I don't think so.
Finally, the real device tester; the one who motivated me to pick up the z fold 2 (I still love my fold 2 thank you). I was disappointed to see only minor updates to the z fold 3. I felt the z fold and z fold 3 are beta products and the z fold 2 and future z fold 4 are the actual products. Thank you again for giving us a real review.

All that's left is SD card storage, the camera, and a truly durable screen with no crease (which can eventually be done.)

A beta product from the cover screen was too small rendered unusable to its sealing issue with dust, particles, and the not screen protector which failed to mention not to remove. The z fold 3 addressed the water issue but, not dust. The cameras are the same as the z fold 2. The screen on the outer cover is still too narrow similar to z fold 2 for full use even with 120hz. No screen is truly durable to human interaction; everyone is different on how they take care of a device. The z fold two addressed a lot of the issues from z fold (gen 1)- outer screen, folding positions, better triple cameras, faster processor s 865+, cleaner inside the display, better optimization via software to hardware. Unless you personally own the z fold 2 device, it's hard to understand why the factors matter in regards to upgrade. If you're a z fold 2 owner this is not an upgrade but, if you're a z fold owner then it's considered an upgrade* hence you even have the unlocked version which wasn't worth it after the CZcamsr test press fail. So too those commenting above, do you even own a z fold device? if so which model?
If you have a fold and taking a self then use the main back camera if you want the best pictures. That's a perk of having the fold is having it open and using the front main screen to see the pictures your taking of yourself with the phones main camera.

I think if I owned a Fold I would definitely upgrade BUT since I'm a ZF2 owner I don't think I'm gonna make the switch. I LOVE the Z Flip 3 so I think I'll add that one and skip this upgrade.

I realize that there are people out there that probably use the inner screen camera for vlogging and other things....but to me it would make just as much sense to not have it there to begin with. Especially given you can use the rear camera to take self portraits.

I ordered the Z Fold3 primarily for the IPX8 and the stylus. Loved it with my Notes, and will love it even more with the 3. Now, will there be enough to upgrade to the 4 for me? Probably not, but we have a year to find out.
I like the fact Samsung kept the design language for the cameras (except UDC). they don't need to change what works well, just improve the software optimization.

Under Display camera on Fold 2 only 4mp, so it can't do 4k.. and yeah just for conference, plus face unlock and some samsung "keep screen on when while viewing" feature i think..

That’s a long time to wait and no one really knows but it could happen. My bet is the fold eventually will be the note series so there will be a major redesign but I am guessing that will take a few iterations before that happens especially if there is a new note phone next year.
I'm getting the fold 3. I've been waiting since the fold one and I'm betting the fold 5 will have some of if not most of the featured you mentioned and having the fold 3 during the wait will make it more bearable
I'm in the same boat as the other guys. Was super excited for the first Fold, but it was a disaster. 2 was better, but still sub-par specs for a $1,900 phone. I waited until now for a better processor, 16gb RAM, 512gb of storage, waterproofing, S Pen support (which was unbelievable how they didn't include it in the first place.), and a much more durable screen/body. The 120hz cover screen is just icing on the cake.
Great review. The camera difference (well, photo output) is night and day. Way better on the Fold 3. Lets hope it is all software and that will get pushed back to the 2.

Ended up ordering one with the trade-in deal that they're doing currently. Stack it with the RSVP discount and other freebies make it an interesting looking device. It was tough though to decide between the Fold and the Flip.

It's not a difficult decision if you're coming from the two because I couldn't downgrade to a smaller screen. The trade in deals plus the reservation made it absolutely worth it. You get $1,000 for the z-fold 2 trade in Plus the bonus stuff that they'll give you for peripherals and I was able to get the new phone with upgraded storage, watch and earbud combo and case with the pen for about $1,000 which is phenomenal

That’s a long time to wait and no one really knows but it could happen. My bet is the fold eventually will be the note series so there will be a major redesign but I am guessing that will take a few iterations before that happens especially if there is a new note phone next year.
I'm getting the fold 3. I've been waiting since the fold one and I'm betting the fold 5 will have some of if not most of the featured you mentioned and having the fold 3 during the wait will make it more bearable
I'm in the same boat as the other guys. Was super excited for the first Fold, but it was a disaster. 2 was better, but still sub-par specs for a $1,900 phone. I waited until now for a better processor, 16gb RAM, 512gb of storage, waterproofing, S Pen support (which was unbelievable how they didn't include it in the first place.), and a much more durable screen/body. The 120hz cover screen is just icing on the cake.

Great review. The camera difference (well, photo output) is night and day. Way better on the Fold 3. Lets hope it is all software and that will get pushed back to the 2.

Ended up ordering one with the trade-in deal that they're doing currently. Stack it with the RSVP discount and other freebies make it an interesting looking device. It was tough though to decide between the Fold and the Flip.
Slickdeals always getting the best bang for buck! 🤣 Yeah it’s always hard to pick between the two but the Z Flip 3 really feels like a new phone this year.

I went with the z flip in cream trade in with my Z flip purple and got the galaxy watch 4 40mm with red sport's band trade in galaxy watch 42 mm
It's not a difficult decision if you're coming from the two because I couldn't downgrade to a smaller screen. The trade in deals plus the reservation made it absolutely worth it. You get $1,000 for the z-fold 2 trade in Plus the bonus stuff that they'll give you for peripherals and I was able to get the new phone with upgraded storage, watch and earbud combo and case with the pen for about $1,000 which is phenomenal

One thing i haven't seen anyone mention, can you set the refresh rate independently? Like 120 on front and 60 inside or vice versa?
There is no option I can see to do it manually in the settings since it is adaptive but power saving mode sets them to 60hz.
