I was wondering about the recessed cross hatch, that "safe range". I have a slow oil leak and want to know when to add oil, and how much. The level has gone from near the top of the crosshatch to halfway point. How much, if you know, do I add to move back to near the top. I sound like Adrian Monk, but the Q is real. Thanks for responding.

As long as you are in the cross hatch you are at a safe oil level. Add oil once it gets near the bottom of the cross hatch. Splash a bit in if you want to bring it back up, maybe a 1/4 quart at a time and keep monitoring. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

I hate these dip sticks that are on the equinox, it is difficult to see the oil level. Like you mentioned if the oil is new its especially hard to see. Maybe I need new glasses 👀 Thanks for the equinox videos, I'm going to install one of those oil catch cans next.

I just got new glasses and it doesn’t help still. The catch can i put in is a great addition. Please also check my pcv test video to make sure the pcv orifice in the intake manifold isn’t clogged. And if you haven’t already, please like and subscribe… however I’m guessing you already have😁

Thank you! The manual is poorly written, for 2014 does not even show the dipstick!

You’re welcome. Thanks for watching. I agree any manual usually sucks. Ones with pictures aren’t usually clear. Video is best. Please like and subscribe for more helpful equinox videos.

You may notice it is called an oil life monitor… not an oil level monitor. That refers to how much of the oil life is left.

@@wavycrockett4261 the oil life monitor in your dash means how long until you need an oil change, that doesn’t mean if your oil is full or low, you will still need to check your oil regularly

The fact that this requires a video disturbs me.

Everyone has different skill levels. Sometimes the simplest things need demonstrating to people. You would be surprised at how many people check the oil incorrectly.
