  • Even without congestion pricing the MTA has to maintain its infrastructure, but the question is how.

    We've had it in London since 2003. During the first ten years since the introduction of the scheme, gross revenue reached about £2.6 billion up to the end of December 2013. From 2003 to 2013, about £1.2 billion has been invested in public transport, road and bridge improvement and walking and cycling schemes. Of these, a total of £960 million was invested on improvements to the bus network.
    We also have another charge called ULEZ, it's a huge money making scheme for London and will only get worse.

      That sounds like an incredible success that NYC could have achieved if they were allowed to reduce traffic like London did.

    So...NY doesn't have enough tax money from tax payers to do this congestion pricing because they don't have enough tax money. Maybe they shouldn't have contracted all those hotels like they did. One gentleman who used to work at one of these hotels said that they have 5 people standing around a table to serve migrants when all they need are 2. But the extra "bodies" allows hotels owners to charge more. This is also the case with in-hotel schooling, etc. They more bodies they have, the more they bill.
    And yes, these "migrant" people are here ILLEGALLY.

    I don’t live in ny anymore I can’t believe how much the fares are. It was one of the most uncomfortable harrowing experiences I ever had riding the trains waiting for a bus that never came had me in tears. Going to work trying to make a living shouldn’t be that way.

    It would be helpful if they would explain what "congestion pricing" is.

    • @mariusfacktor3597
      @mariusfacktor3597 Před 17 dny +1

      Congestion pricing is when they charge cars $15 to drive into lower Manhattan. The reason is that these streets are always deadlocked with cars that cause air pollution and give children asthma, despite less than a third of residents on Manhattan even owning a car. So the idea was to reduce traffic and reduce air pollution at the same time which would also happens to be a big revenue source to fund cleaner modes of transportation.

    Why should people who don't use the public transportation system pay for something they don't use? If they need money to mend the train system, let its users or the city's business owners pay for it.

      Since the 90's the MTA execs were using state and city money to buy million dollar houses, yachts and other luxury items on the tax payers dime then when asked about the shitty service ... The MTA would say we are out of money 3 years later. This same song and dance has been going on for 40 years or more. It's called the MTA blackhole because the money disappears into their pockets for a new acr, yacht or whatever toys they want. The MTA is just one big money laundering outfit by hiring contractors to work on a job for a decade to hide where the money was really going and into a new yacht for some MTA big shot.
