My same model sportsman has a ‘tester-totter’ effect when I use the front or rear brake. I have to have the rear brake depressed one order to use the hand brake. I feel like a check valve is not working list it used to. Not sure what part would need to be replaced.
Is the caliper you purchased an aftermarket? If so is there a particular brand you prefer? The OEM stuff is just so $$$! I rebuild my 99 calipers (front and back) but the rear just doesn't want to behave. Thanks for the videos!
There's a much better way to prevent air from going back into the brake. Press pedal, unscrew valve (let air out), screw back valve, let go of the pedal. Repeat until there is no more air bubbles comming out. The logic behing this is : when you press the pedal the oil is forced toward the brake, when you let go the oil is sucked from the reservoir. Don't forget to fill up oil in the reservoir as needed so no new air will be sucked in while you do this.
I didn't even know it had a rear brake. The 6x6 I bought has been nothing but problems since day 1. So much missing parts, fasteners, an now entire brake assemblies.
That happens a lot when you buy an old machine from people who didn't want to put any money on maintenance. Some say those machines are cancer, I say it's 100% the owner's fault. Redneck's "repairs" do "work" until they dont... I bought a 1998 "unkillable old beater" about 10 years ago. I had to put a lot of time, money and love on it but I brought it back to a pretty decent state. Bought it for 700$ now I could sell it easy for 2000$ and more but it's a keeper. I ride it everyday pedal to the floor 😮😅 Enough so that I decided to do this again with a 2002 model, they're pretty much the same so now I know where to look for issues (and plan for those to come). I mean, after 25 years you have to assume there will be a lot of small issues about everywhere but once you fixed them all, after that it's good for years.
Yes for it is for 500 i have tryed ebay got 4 and had send back not right ones i seen you work on the old ones and thought you might put me in right line

Would this be the same procedure with a 2001 Polaris 400?
How is that non OEM caliper performing?
Quick question I should do the hose jar method to the front bleeder valve to right
Yes. that would be a good way.
