I can't describe how much I love this movie. It's pure perfection and I can't decide if I like Jo x Laurie more or Amy x Laurie... So, this is basically a video about both pairings. I hope you enjoy!
Also, if you REALLY loved this video, you can show it by buying me a coffee. Thank you so much.

What do people not get about Jo saying she cares more to be loved, and Marmee saying that that's not the same as loving. That scene is so crucial! Jo only believes she loves Laurie when she feels lonely and is missing the golden days of her childhood. She still doesn't really truly love him. Jo wants to be loved by someone so she'll settle for a relationship with Laurie because he's safe and he used to be in love with her.

In the book Jo never thought she loves Laurie. It was always clear from her actions and thoughts that Laurie was just a brother to her. She never second guessed her decision of turnong him down in the book. She even thought about him and one of her sisters getting together way before Amy and Laurie married. She was so happy for them in the book.

When she knew she did wrong and fell on the cold water she changed a lot. Nobody emphasizes that.

I completely agree. Jo was just lonely when she decided to give him a chance. She does love him, but more like a brother or a friend. Laurie gets his heart broken and then falls in love with Amy, and only then realizes that that’s a more grown up form of love... at least that’s what I tried to show in this video.

When Jo writes her love letter to Laurie she says “My dear teddy, I miss you more than I can express. I used to think that the worst fate was to be a wife, I was young and stupid. But now I have changed. The worst fate is to live my life without you in it.” I think Jo finds it hard to express her feelings without going against her believes/ideas about what women should and shouldn’t be in the world. Like when Jo tells her sister Meg that she doesn’t need to get married to John and that she will get bored after 2 years. Later on Jo telling her mum that she is sick of women having their only purpose of to love. Jo realised that women are more than that. To all the people saying Jo felt ‘lonely’ and needed to fill a void that’s why she confesses to Laurie her love that was not the reason. When Jo left to go to New York she left her sisters behind. And when her sister Beth got sick she came back in a heart beat. Stopping everything that she was doing her dreams and ambition for her sister. When her sister Amy burned her papers Jo got angry at Amy and even said she will never ever forgive her and then when her sister nearly drowned she went back to talking to her in a heart beat realising that her sister was more important. Similarly as soon as she rejects Laurie she kept writing to him but he was the one that was not answering to her letters. Jo truly did care for him. She just didn’t have herself figured out yet. Jo thought a women cannot marry and pursue her dreams at the same time in the end she realises she can when she marries the professor. She realises this before however and wanted to tell Laurie by confessing to him through the letter but it was to late. Jo wanted it to be Laurie that she marries. Jo even admitted to her mum that when she gets angry her anger can blind her. Like when she rejected Laurie because of her anger blinding her to thinking women should be independent and never married, but she doesn’t realise women can be both. Jo is a strong willed character who refuses to back down but then she does on all of these occasions she does it for the people that she loves. She did that when she rejected Laurie. She was angry because she had dreams she wanted to pursue and marriage was not on her radar back then. However after loosing her sister for good this time she realises the mistake she made rejecting Laurie. She realises death is her worse enemy and it can come in the way of things even when she thinks she is in control. She steers the wheel of her life, she is independent, unmarried, in New York writing doing everything she ever wanted but death still has a way of ruining things. When she comes to this realisation she cannot bear to loose Laurie in the same way without telling him how she truly feels. Because Jo finally realises that the love she holds for him is greater than whatever it is she wanted to do as a single women.

The scene where she talks about marriage as an economic proposition is so clearly the moment Laurie's entire perspective shifts and he is so clearly realizing his feelings for Amy especially in the way he reacts to her accepting Fred Vaughn's proposal as well as seeing Amy run to him as he stands in the doorway. The movie did such a good job of properly portraying the love story of Laurie and Amy.

Amy and Laurie had actual chemistry, and they really are perfect together. I'm amazed at how brilliantly they acted the Amy x Laurie scenes and Jo x Laurie scenes, it just makes it so much more realistic. • @shefalib58

Niamh O Loughlin i think in the future version, jo couldn’t say that she loves him because it betrays her belief that women are more than that and they deserve more than just marriage and love.
but i think the moral of it all is that the love that laurie felt for jo was more childish and wild and natural, but the love he felt for amy was the type that amy talked about. the type of love that you can learn to love someone and the type of love that comes from mutual effort that will last. and i think jo was starting to learn to love laurie, but she wasn’t quite there yet. she needed him to give her more of a confirmation before she actually loved him but he had fallen in love with amy at that point. jo needed laurie to love her as he did when they were younger because that’s what she began to believe love was. when she was younger she thought that because she didn’t love him immediately and as passionately, that it wasn’t love but when they grew up and she loved frederic she learned that love doesn’t have to be wild and crazy and immediate. you can fall in love slowly.
and laurie constantly asking who frederic was showed that he wouldn’t ever just stop loving jo, that love was just in the past and it had evolved.
considering the essence of the story is that life doesn’t always turn out the way you want it to, jo thinking she could’ve loved laurie and laurie loving amy was kinda perfect in showing that. our childhood doesn’t define our future. they both grew up and learned what romantic love actually was.
but that’s just my opinion from the movie i haven’t read the book yet :)

That’s really not true. Jo loved Laurie too with a pure love even if she wasn’t exactly in love with him and she showed it all the time. When she wrote the letter, she didn’t know he was with Amy. And she ran to tear it up when she did because she didn’t want to cause any division. And afterwards, though it’s natural and healthy for her to have feelings of anger and betrayal and sadness, she handled the whole situation respectfully and kindly with both her sister and Laurie allowing for their continuing familial relationships.

jo was never in love with laurie, she wants to be loved because she's lonely. laurie did love jo not realizing that it is just a brother-sister/bestfriend kind of love (and i guess he still don't know what truly love is back then). he was too focused on jo that he didn't noticed amy's love for him. but when they met again in paris. amy and laurie got closer and that's when he finally realized the difference of the way he felt for jo and amy.

this was a beautiful edit, and i loved how you lined up the scenes that are connected or show why a character is doing something like when aunt march told amy to marry rich and that scene with laurie in the painting room where she says "i've always known i'd marry rich".
i also LOVE how you didn't mix both the ships' scenes, to really emphasize the fact that laurie might've loved jo at one point, but she's only his first love, while amy is his last. i don't get why people say she was just a second choice, because she was the one who'd pushed laurie to become something and definitely showed him that she was more intelligent and wise than anyone gave her credit for (case in point the marriage is an economic proposition scene-laurie looks properly schooled there). also amy and laurie had way more chemistry (the untying the smock scene- the way he slowly pulled the ribbon and unbuttoned it-hot!) than jo and laurie, who had more of a bff kind of vibe to them.

@@boudouroubou9790 I know this is 5 months old but I only now stumbled again on this amd saw your reply. think that's a really insightful analysis. And you could be right. Most people think Jo was lonely and that's the sole reason she confessed, but that can be one interpratation.
But what you are saying sounds reasonable as well. It could be that her feeling lonely is what pushed her to write to Laurie but that she also did feel something for him, deep down, only she was to scared that if she gave in it would ruin her ideals as an independent woman.
When she rejected Laurie she said 'I don't believe I will ever marry' and she firmly believed this. Of course after Meg married, Amy went to Europe and Beth died she realised there was something missing to and that was Laurie but it was too late. Sure she said 'I care more to be loved', but that could also be that she was still confused about everything and would do anything to get back to when she had her mind set on not marrying at all. When it was easier and they were just 'little women'. I understand Jo and can't blame her for being to late. It's not easy to pick between belief and feeling. Also growing and realising not everything in life comes as you envisioned can be scary.

Amy and laurie have a healthier and deeper love for one another, I think laurie realized that. That's why he talks to Jo and tells her his love for amy is different although he's loved jo all his life, and he finally admits he understands why jo rejected him, and has no regrets about how it all turned out. The situations are similar: Laurie loves Jo but Jo doesn’t love him. Amy loves Laurie but Laurie doesn’t love her. The difference here’s that Laurie wants someone to love, Jo wants to be loved. He sees that Amy will accept his love, and choses to grow a relationship with her, to fall in love with her. I hate that people say that Laurie should have ended with Jo just because. Perhaps Jo would have made the same choice Laurie did with time, but it’s more likely that she would accept his love and grow comfortable in it as she had no more incentive to grow love - the love shared between them would never be equal. Anyway, by the time, Laurie and Amy got married, he had already made the choice to love her, and I don’t think he would exchange their equal love to an unequal one.

They may be happy together, may be not. It depends on how Amy can forgive him for not being the first love in his life.
And Jo understood her love too late. She is really incredible, strong but her true passion is freedom.
That is how I see it.

alright so this is my opinion
jo did love laurie but never thought of him as a husband so-
when he told her that he loves her she didn't want anything to change between them she didn't want her childhood to go away as u can see all of her sisters got married she didn't want them to get married she wanted her life to stay the same but she knew her sisters had to marry so they can live happy with money and man so she wanted to prove that women can do better without men but she was stupid she loved him but still wasn't ready she was young she didn't want to get married she wanted to achieve her dream that's why she rejected him but then when she grew up she knew-
that she was WRONG she regrets everything she missed laurie and she was lonely
so she wrote him a letter c:
but sadly she was TOO LATE!
so let's go back to amy,
amy truly loved laurie as a husband and a man c:
sadly he didn't he never even thought of it,
after he got rejected by jo he started to feel uk nothing idk and lonely too,
so after that he found amy in that place as u can see,
the day next to it went to a party dramatic things happend and the other day
she was painting and was ready to go tell the man that she wants to marry him and so he stopped her and told her he loved her!
    let's focus....
how did he love her that's totally fake
istg focus he just met her after years and stayed with her for like two days and said he loved her how tf did this happen u guys dumb enought to believe this ofc he used her after he got rejected to all amy x laurie fan i am so sorry we gotta be honest and please no hate on my grammar or spelling
he met amy after years of his breakdown and stayed with her for two days!
    TWO DAYS!
even if it's not two days still he can't just fall in love like that!
so laurie love for jo is true love
amy love for laurie is true love too!
    that's it bye bye! c:
    *no hate*

      Its ur opinion!
I mostly agree with you BUT he wasnt with her only two days...it was few weeks it just looked like two days beacuze of how little they showed them...
AND i thought that even later on Jo didnt realy feel any love for him- not before or later...it was just the pressure and fear if being alone while other sister were happy so she thought she would settle with laurie beacuze he liked her before and was a safe choice BUT you can see she cant bring herself to say she loves him while talking to her mother
i always thought of her seeing him as a brother she always wanted and you can kinda see it by her actions with him (playfull fighting ect.) And jo made him feel like a boy,
But amy made him feel like a man,
(Beacuze amy was always hard on him and challanged him to be a better man-like the fight on the party AND by the nicknames they have for him jo calls him "tedy" while amy calls him "my lord")
*So the reason i think they are truely in love is beacuze they were more mature and even the first scene when she says "im sorry Jo rejected you" he says "its fine dont be" or something like that...and in those days they spend thogether they got a bond and he slowly realized Amy is the woman he needs and you cant see it in the secene where they were in her art studio where she is talking abt marrige and her talent or when he sees her with Fred and he stand by the door you can kinda see it by the face*🤠
      But yh thats mine opinion
And i mostly agree with urs😊👍

Jo and laurrie should have been together. Amy was no one and she just took the advantage of the situation. How could a sister do that to her sister? What happened to sis code huh? She didnt even talk to jo if it was okay her getting closer to laurrie. Amy does not even deserve laurrie cuz it was jo and laurrie who truly loved each other. Only the thing is jo didnt realise that she can have both her career and her love, so she let laurrie go.

No...i dont know where the heck did u watch the movie but
*jo never loved him romanticly like Laurie wanted her to- but Amy did. Jo saw him more like a brother she always wanted and when they were young amy was quiet and respected them (tho she did like him) later on jo rejected laurie meaning she didnt love him and amy did not need Jo's premission to love someone.*
Years passed and Amy meet Lauire when they are both more mature and over few moths they feel in love and when they meet Jo, Amy was even worried what jo might be mad or sad but Jo was only shocked but she told her its fine and they deserve each other. And even she gets the love of her life at the end🤠
Amy wasnt his back up plan or second choice beacuze pepole are allowed to have more than one lover in life. And Jo wrote the letter and said those things just beacuze she felt lonley and wanted to be loved...she would settle for him beacuze she knew he liked her from start but she woudnt realy love love him😬
