I love that they left Freddie a glass of champagne 🥂 on the piano
Great gesture for sure!
Thank you for reaction to my suggestion. A lovely tribute , John's face was a picture and he left the band rather than carry on without Freddie. Another beautiful track is A Winter's Tale written by Freddy that was inspired by the beauty of Lake Geneva and appreciation off the beautiful things in life. Freddie playing on a keyboard beautiful vocals and scenery. Written in 1991 so I guess you can see where he was coming from. X Eve from London.
You're very welcome! And you're right, it's a great tribute to Freddie. May his memory live on!
John threw his bass at the wall, he was still hurting deeply and in a depression, Freddie was his best friend
100% agree with you, beautiful track.
“It was written as a tribute to Freddie and before long I became aware I was trying to make it sound very Queen-like. There are some musical and verbal quotes in there and I thought, ‘if it’s going to sound like Queen, maybe it ought to be Queen.’ I sent the track to Roger and he loved it and said we just had to do it. Although I lost that track from my album, it worked out alright in the end; it was the final thing that made me realize I was on the wrong track for my solo album.” - Brian
With Roger on board (“He put it away in a drawer somewhere”), explained Brian. “He was busy or whatever, and it was months later when Roger phoned me up suddenly, excited and said, “I just listened to the track and it’s amazing, and we have to do it as a Queen song!” With John’s help, they arranged the track. Sessions took place in the spring of 1997 at Allerton Studios, Brian’s home studio, and the song was completed in time for inclusion on a future compilation, “Queen Rocks.”
Later Brian was to recall that during a short break in filming, when band discussing takes, a moth was seen to fly around a champagne glass that had been placed Freddie's grand piano. Brian had a feeling that Freddie was there somehow.
Thanks, that’s awesome! 🤘🤘🤘
YES - Andrea - I read the same explanation... so beautiful!
Roger Taylor put out a song called Old Friend , it was for Freddie.
I always tear up when I watch this video. It’s such a loss of not only Freddie’s life but so many others with AIDS at that time. Had Freddie contracted HIV just a few years later he would have lived long enough to see medication that enables survival. You really need to check out Roger Taylor’s tribute song for Freddie called “Old Friends”.
Wow didn't know about that one either. I'll be checking it out for sure, thanks!
My best (and only friend ) passed away recently I stumbled upon this epic song now I play it all the time and think of him.......
Sorry for your loss 🙏🏻
@facethemusic1970 thank you sir thank you for posting this unbelievable song
I love this beautiful tribute to Freddie. The champagne glass perched on his piano is for him. The song was recorded in 1997 and released on the compilation album "Queen Rocks". John performed with Queen a few times after Freddie's death and this is the last Queen recording with John.
It is excellent!
I missed Freddie💔 32 years passed but Freddie is still alive in our hearts❤️👑💐❤️ Love him much❤️❤️❤️
Must have seen this hundreds of times and I still weep every time. John is so brokenhearted he can't even look at the camera. No idea how Brian & Roger got through the vocals.
Saw Queen in 1978 in St Louis MO the Jazz tour. I was 16. Now I'm 61 and it was still the best concert of my life. I listen to Queen & Freddie every day. It brings me peace.
I have a few performances you probably have not seen and are treasures.
Encore performances covering "Big Spender" czcams.com/video/0_gzCWMC9DY/video.htmlsi=UpoUiZEfKlZDLL_1
Preview of "You Take My Breath Away" before they even recorded it. A very young Freddie telling the crowd to Hush and listen is priceless. czcams.com/video/UBBne8R66xo/video.htmlsi=RjkIpdrv9zm5M1KV
This last one is actually from before a Green Day concert in 2017. The crowd is performing Bohemian Rhapsody, over 40 years after it's original release. This reminds me that Freddie will never die as long as people are still singing his music. czcams.com/video/cZnBNuqqz5g/video.htmlsi=7zqIUg0tKO4LWrdR
Much love to you for doing these reaction videos. I just found you but I'm watching. It's nice to have an "older" perspective some times. Keep rockin' ✌❤😁
Thanks, FTM! the Brilliance of Sir Doctor Brian May is so evident.. and of course Roger & John (Deacon's last participation)... "do you want us to cry.." yep.. I guess so... appreciate your reaction.
So beautiful but so sad. I love this tribute written by Brian, but it always brings a tear to my eye. Brian looks broken even though this recording was years after Freddie's passing and John looks as though he can barely make it through. Roger, always the pilar of strength is focused on the music and his singing but you can see in his eyes that he still misses his mate so much. After Brian wrote this he gave a copy to Roger who tossed it into a drawer and forgot about it. Brian figured that Roger didn't care for the song which was often the case with Roger and Brian's songs or he just wasn't up to dealing with such a song at that point, so it was forgotten about. Years later after Princess Diana's death and the death of Versace, Roger found the tape and called Brian saying he thought that they should do the song as Queen so this is the product of that decision. By the time the song was released, it was no longer just about Freddie as it had been when Brian initially wrote it, it was about so many of their friends who had died so young.
I thought I could watch the whole thing without tearing up but NO…… it’s never gonna’ happen. I’m doomed to always love Freddie and miss him. Thanks for your sweet reaction😊🌷
Thank you I appreciate it! 🤘🤘🤘
The official Queen youtube channel is great about not blocking their videos from everything I have heard. Love this video! So glad you reacted to this.
A beautiful tribute to Freddie, thank you
Thank you! 🤘🤘🤘
Brian also write a solo song re freddies death called Nothing but blue,it was written the night before freddie keft us when those close to him knew time was short. A great channel. Blessing from england and a fan since 1974 xx
Thanks for the info, and greetings from Virginia! 🤘🤘🤘
"Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, studio version, please.👑
this is a WOW for sure. Loved Freddie a bit? I think so.
OMG.. Gorgeous Tribute for Freddie!! John & his bass guitar are drooping in awful sadness!! I completely understand why he retired from Queen! After the opening of the 1997 Bejart Ballet in Paris, Roger shared, “That was John’s last performance & I could tell he wasn’t happy because he was sort of chain-smoking & very, very nervous & had been severely traumatized by losing Freddie.” 😭😭
I heard that song 20 years after his leaving. And this is 30 years ago. We are all aging "Queens".
I am a bit surprised you didn't have a deeper reaction to the song. Thank you for sharing this.
I guess every reaction channel’s different. I’ve followed Queen music since the late 70s/early 80s so I’m not unfamiliar with them as many other reactors are. I guess if you’re looking for a specific reaction you might try other channels. Thanks for your comment!
Funnily enough I have just been watching a programme about the recent auction at Sotherby's of Freddie's personal items. It raised over £40 million GBP smashing the pre sale estimate. The handwritten lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody alone went for about £1.2 million.
Wow that's quite a lot!
Generally speaking, Queen does not block their official videos (the ones from their CZcams channel). So no need to worry about that. Just be careful which videos you use (as far as getting blocked). For example, the "Live Aid" concert, while OF them, is not BY them.
Not released until 1997, and by this time John and all but retired from public life, and the song went into a drawer for a few years before coming back to it, but also by then Freddie friend Diana Princess of Wales had passed away and a famous designer had been murdered outside his home in the States again friends with Fred so incorporated into the meaning of the song
I can definitely see that for sure!
