Passenger on easyJet flight announces that he's flying the plane to Alicante

- Holidaymakers travelling on an easyJet flight to Alicante from Manchester Airport were astonished when a passenger took to the microphone in the cabin to announce HE was flying the plane.
Having been told by his wife that they were facing a delay, qualified easyJet pilot Michael Bradley 'deliberately' took his licence and ID along to the airport.
He made a quick call to easyJet's head office, and the airline made arrangements to allow him to fly the Airbus to their destination - meaning their holiday wasn't delayed any further.
An easyJet spokesman said the incident was 'exceptional' and stressed that Michael was well-rested, having previously had four days off, and was legally permitted to fly the aircraft.

Michael's family have been neighbours (literally across the close) of ours from the day we all moved into our respective homes on a new development. My wife and I couldn't wish for better neighbours. Both Michael and Neil (brother) are sons to be proud of and a credit to their fine parents.

They are absolutely NOT a “shit” airline. I’ve flown may times with easyJet, always a fantastic service. The crew I’ve spoken too on flights also say that easyJet take great care of their staff, so I have no doubt this gentlemen will receive some recognition.

ikr. Technically they're not wrong but practically they are. I was expecting that the "passenger" was an ex-pilot, or at least a pilot of another airline. It's not really strange/surprising for a pilot of the same company to take on the job.

THIS guy actually has thouasands of hours of flying expierence. he also had to contact the head office for the air line, where they ran his back ground check , made sure he is good to fly,etc. and let him fly. youd have to be a complete moron to go for a career that takes10 years to accomplish and throw it away for some booze. think about it. our Air lines and airports are safer than the border.

Your headline is both confusing and misleading.
I'm unsure about this. He would have had no access to the pilot briefing that occurs before the flight, where they discuss NOTAM's and weather etc. So not really fully prepared for the flight. He would have to rely on the other pilot to quickly brief him.
Martin W I think that would have happened as he arrived at the airport. They wouldn’t load the plane with passenger if there wasn’t already a full crew on board. The delay was known about in advance, as he took his licence etc to the airport (wouldnt do that if he was just going on holiday).
Must have had some pre-planning to be fair. 2 hours is a decent amount of time. I don't know about your personal experience, but logistically, it wouldn't be too hard for EJ to contact control and get him a temp for that day. It could very well be done in a few hours, and like the other said, if they weren't confident that they would get the flight off, they wouldn't have boarded the plane, i imagine it's a pretty expensive process just to have to get everyone off again

Even EasyJet Pilots have same treatment as passangers, the advantage is that they can work over time during their holidays to save their own family holidays from the big low cost company they are working for. Nobody gets saved from aviation kaos. Unf***ingbelievable.
