CORRECTION- the pilot doesn`t necessary take over the navigational control. THE PILOT IS ADVISER .THE MASTER IS THE PERSON WHO BARES ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY SO HE IS IN CHARGE ALL THE TIME.
Theoretically absolutely correct,in some ports even if the pilot isn’t boarded the master of the ship is being told where to anchor or else, and if any pilot’s order being denied will leave the ship!
.sorry Captain, the pilot is not an advisor, the Master is in command of the ship and the pilot does the navigational control. This is a wecome partnership to the Master (I was Master before being a pilot) Usually yhe Master who has enough on his plate at any one time already. As a pilot for over 30 years, I find that only the prema donna captains resent the pilot doing his job.
Hello Steve, I can only apologise, you left Bluebird without my number on Thursday and yet I had such a wonderful time ! I hope we can see each other soon and thank you for a super evening, maybe same place same time ? Brigitte
No the skipper is responsible for ship, that why their wages are pretty high, if a skipper don't like what a pilot is doing for example a certain route to take in the channel they can tell them to stand down and stay off the helm/throttle etc, trust me it's true

A very satisfying job, with great risks involved.
THE WORLD'S BEST JOB!!!...... The job of being a Marine Pilot, what a fun job!!!!!
Is COC 1 needed to become Marine Pilot?
No. The pilot is responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel within the pilotage district. The master is responsible for the ship.

Just one correction in audio-Pilot normally not boarding in any weather conditions, professionals know it.I am a professional
Absolutely,if the port is open the pilot will board the ship even if it is difficult to,the normal practice calls for the senior pilots to do so.
