- Brothers and part of jiu jitsu’s most illustrious family, my guests today are Ryron and Rener Gracie who discuss how Brazilian jiu-jitsu has shaped the people they are today; the pressure of continuing their family’s legacy; how UFC (their father’s creation) has become one of the fastest growing sports in history; and the importance of being able to defend ourselves.

It’s pronounced “Hussell” Brand.
If you hadn't said it, I was going to.
John Summers show some hespect!
Haha damn it
Hussell Brenj
Mr Bhand to you.
“Discipline and consistency. I owe these two factors all have attained in my life. Things have never happened overnight. Results have appeared as a consequence of decades long toil. It is necessary to persist.”
Master Carlos Gracie Jr.
You can feel the congruency and dominant presence of these guys in their speech and gestures
Siim Land I would say consistency is discipline
You’re everywhere dude
I was just about to post a similar comment on this video Siim. You can absolutely feel the conscious presence of these 2 in the room. Very balanced people. Standard art forms seem to have a wonderful quality of being archetypal to some of the basis of reality, giving a person a more meta view if they are able to see the correlation and practice it. A good foundation to build yourself on. As Russel stated about that primal fear being a very deep primal part of the brain. Which is true, the flight or fright response is mediated in the oldest part of the brain.
Thank you for helping me to recover from self harm Russell!
Me too. Russell might say "we are just responding to our own consciousness." If so, I would accept that. However, to me, he has created this beginning of a new "morphic resonance."
*hecover
Rener is also a black belt in business. Very tuned in to how things work.
Russell + Gracies!!! Fuck yeahhh!!!
Ryron and Rener Gracie... these guys are REAL!
Avoid a street fight at all costs if possible.
"Self-defense means self preservation. It not only
means winning the fight but AVOIDING the fight
altogether." Rener Gracie
Very intelligent guys with the TRUE warrior spirit.
Especially if you're into BJJ because that's not self-defense my friend.
Another brilliant podcast. Under the Skin is becoming a favorite over Joe Rogan from my perspective. Great guests with a bit more wiggle room for spirituality is pressing all the right buttons. Well done Russell. Keep it up, people are looking for this.
Absolutely. Very few people in this world have the knowledge or drive to bring spirituality to a world that so desperately needs it. Although I consider myself to be of some use in that regard, thank God we got Russell, we can use all we can get.
@@PherPhur Spirituality helps you emotionally, but you can't rationalise it in an intellectually honest way, so it ultimately is false. And falsehood never leads to the right path.
This was a great change from recent podcasts. Big up Russell
An INCREDIBLE watch! Thank you all..
Some people just want to fight you to ruin your night, like when you are out with your partner and they are alone etc. So this stuff is good to listen to. Self control is paramount.
A lot of people are like that, maybe even the majority will try and dump on you either verbally or physically if they think they can. People want to lower you to their energy vibration. If they see you happy they want you to be miserable like them.
+Jason Rougeau - Haha very good troll.
Lame. These guys say they know how to train some1 from a handshake. That has always been total bullshit. I was told I once didn't get a job because how I shook hands... I didn't try to break the other guys hand. I no longer shake hands.
I practiced tae kwon do for about 3 years when I was really young and the only thing I really remember was our sensei saying every day "everything we do here is centered around self control" lol.
Beautiful breakdown of the art form and all its complexities by the gracie bros, amazing content russell thank you!
this was fantastic. I actually listened to it on podcast but had to find the video so I could see the demonstrations. I absolutely love the podcast Russell. Keep up the good work!
What a beautiful interview, it’s so nice to watch a conversation between three people that respect and care about the amazing art we all love
Haha i love how these guys talk!!!! makes me want to go just for their energy!
luke cooper if you've never done it before, try to find a Gracie Academy Certified Training Center or possibly go to the main one with Rener and Ryron at Torrance CA because other BJJ schools are very different. That's what Rener means when he said some people don't really get how this translates to their lives.
they talk like arrogant asses that think they're better than everyone.. I've laid down a few 6foot talkin' shiters in my life and I'm 5'6"... The man say's "he's 5'7" so that's no threat".... that's how you get hurt in a fight
oh right. that what you said wasn't arrogant? They are intending to spread positivity, why are you getting in the way of that?
Synergy Revolution very true my jiu jitsu academy is very very aggressive and lots of ppl quit I research is key before joining a gym
Nikola Rodman lol you’re funny mate.
lol i love how these guys (and many ppl) think russell looks and sounds weird at first, then open up once they realise how kind and curious he is
The size of your circumference of fear determines how quickly you react to your environment. This is very insightful.
I love watching the Gracie brothers, they're just so incredibly charming AND smart!
This is the first time I came across this podcast, but I really like what Russel Brand has got going on here!
I loved this. GJJ has been a big part of my life since 97. I was one of the first few hundred people to sign up at GU. I studied under a Relson black belt here in Ohio, I have had to use it once in a street fight unfortunately. and GJJ has changed my life over the years. I've seen dozens of interviews with these two, Rorion, Royce, etc... and this is by far the best. BY FAR!!
Wishing you all the best and your Mum a full recovery! Much love, Russell!
BEST INTERVIEW WITH THE GRACIE BROTHERS EVER!!!
Kudos, Russell, for being able to grasp the true essence of jiu jitsu and understanding it well enough to make those great questions!!! Ryron and Rener are amazing teachers, but only a few people are able to make the right questions and let them go beyond the technics and history of Gracie Jiu Jitsu...it was an amazing experience....thank you!
Absolutely beautiful, thank you all for having this intelligent and informative conversation. We don’t know exactly what will save the world, but this is a great place to start.
so proud of your dedication russ
Watching this during the pandemic and hearing him talk about industry wide setbacks and some people continuing to win even during these setbacks, these principles could not be more sound
i love the way they talk about jiujitsu. finally some souls who know how to talk about what martial arts really is
Thank you to everyone involved.
Thanks Russell.
Are you able to talk about break ups and the types of ways people deal with it? I can personally say recovering from being heartbroken is the worst pain i have ever had to deal with. Thanks
Really awesome interviews lately. I'm super into it. :)
Love this episode ❤
This podcast is one of the best and most informative I've listened to for a long time. Thanks Russ
Disneyland melon story: 37:29
House of Blues moshpit story: 41:56
Love these guys, chill AF!
Cheers Russell
BEAUTIFUL
This was so kick ass!
Cannot wait to train again. I’ve been out for over a year with 2 back injuries and broken and dislocated knee cap. Gracie Jiu Jitsu as taught by these guys is the best.
This is cool, thanks dudes!
This was brilliant, i had my first Jujitsu lesson yesterday and loved it :)
I kept wondering why they'd just thrown tennis balls all over the floor and then I noticed the chair legs xD
Roo I was exactly the same but now I'm even more confused
L H stop the chairs piercing the mats
Thank you for the conversations that you're bringing to us, always food for thought and a dose of sarcasm too :)
Another highly interesting interview Russell
Hadn't watched the channel in a long while but lately these interviews (Peterson and the Gracie bros in particular) are persuading me to spend more time with this channel again
Great energy and interview Russell, and i've a new found respect for the Gracie's bro's. It be awesome to see Rener compete too. Love and peace.
brilliant bro! good work and thank you.
What a fantastic video. I'm sold, I need to try this. I loved the comments on "unhandcuffing" your children from unworkable bullying policies at their schools. I went to primary school way before bullying was identified and I have no idea what the school policy was, but my Dad and I were hauled into the principal's office after he advised me that if I got picked on I absolutely had the responsibility to defend myself, and I then did. He did not back down or waver at all, he had my back completely. My parents found a new school the next year.
lmfao i thought this said 'eggs and alcohol'
I thought the same. Only once I saw your comment did I realize that they spelled eggs wrong in the title.
Amazing. Always a pleasure listening to you guys thank you
Fantastic interview! Glad to see the Gracie legacy in brilliant hands.
I could watch them do this every weekend!
some really great questions from Russell. The best interview with these 2 that I've seen.
I'm so glad I came across this. Very important & illuminating discussion on jiu jitsu
This was an amazing podcast.
Really made me reflect in my own bjj and my ego when my son is doing it in his own classes.
love these guys! great interview.
This was amazing, Thankyou
The ideology is magnificent! Very diplomatic! Beautiful!
had to pause this every so often and watch in instalments, they're so intense
Loved the non-verbal, body-energy stuff around 20:00 in... relaxing to relax the opponent and intuitively reading students to know how to teach with higher or lower energy. Very cool.
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Thanks Russell!
These ideas are better understood when you train Jiu Jitsu. Once you enter the rabbit hole you understand that there are levels to this game, physically and mentally. Life changing.
I've heard enough from Joe to know this lol. Absolutely a spiritual artform
Greetings Russell and ALL, good energy and day to you, love your videos and message. Peace and Positivity.
this is so good. every parents and school should watch it!
You guys have inspired me to learn Jiu Jitsu! Such passion for your craft is so refreshing to see :)
This was brilliant. Thanks to all involved. Oss!
Fan of all of Russell and the Gracies, Never thought they would ever meet
What A brilliant conversation. These brothers are awesome
Love your socks, Russ!
Beautiful podcast thank you
thanks for the vid this is awesome
That was fun, I enjoyed that equally as much as the heavier political and spiritual podcasts! Thank you Russell.
Great... loved the energy! Long time Russell and MMA fan from W. Wales, UK!
Brilliant, just pure brilliant.
I'm amazed by the way Ryron sits. When did anyone every amaze me by doing that? wtf..
Hey Russell, I'm in the abyss. Things never seemed so bleak. Watched your channel for years. Life hurts. Alcohol. I think you're awesome. Having difficulty being articulate.
Wow, look at your handle, man. Just stop drinking man. AN dyou don't need 12-step programs. Just stop it.
I actually signed up for 1 week try-out for Jiu-Jitsu because this resonated with me.
Great video. Inspirational.
I never would have guessed this combination of personalities. Awesome video!
@55:41, talking about the right move at the wrong time = THE WRONG MOVE....Guys, seriously brilliant, just brilliant. Before Rener's finished with the - off the mat analogy/how does this pertain to life skills - I'm calling it "alignment," and further to that, alignment with source, with All That Is.
Jiu Jitsu's never struck me as something to pursue, and unless without the perfect instructor, I won't pursue it, though listening to you guys may be enough. We speak the same language, are on the same frequency, and for me what you do is yoga in it's truest sense - not the trendy foot behind neck, toes in your mouth stuff, but real alignment/union of spirit and body.
God Bless You gentlemen, Russell, Ryron & Rener, and sincere thanks for all that you are and do. I'm thoroughly enjoying your conversation. Keep thriving, shining, and offering light for others to see their own and thrive too.
XxM

WOOOOO Russell Brand knows who the Gracie are !!! i am so impress !!!! that is why i subscribe NOW to your channel Russell!!
I love this all three of you are awesome
Subscribed. Thanks for cool conversations with cool people.
"The right move at the wrong time is the wrong move." That's important although difficult to implement.
Great video 👍 love the passion
At 1:15 Russles' face cannot hide his love for the triangle LMFAO.
Thanks!
So good!
Love Russell's take on BJJ and spirituality being interconnected and able to build a better human. Haribol!
Great people, great interview! The art of temperance.
wow really enjoyed this ... true pearls of wisdom in this discussion. A martial arts teacher I once studied with put forth that 'true pacifism comes from confronting fear artfully' so somewhat ironically highly disciplined fighting arts such as this can liberate us from macho destructive egoic tendencies in an alchemical way (transmuting proverbial lead to gold) by embracing rather than denying/abusing these survival and peer societal tendencies and instead transmuting this energetically to higher frequency more enlightened seeing/being.
Rener Gracie is such a boss, he's my new favourite human.
People get hurt, often. No need to say the opposite. It is what it is; it is still a martial art; suitable for war, and I love it.
Great podcast!!! 🤘
Is nobody going to mention the tennis balls on the chair legs? Absolute genius!!
Great interview, and message from all. Ooooos.
These brothers are such cool guys!
I like what they said about a person's own demeanor, can trigger conflict. This is a point that the women's movement doesn't get. You bring it up and they say you are putting the blame on the woman, which is not true. You are not responsible for the actions of an aggressive person, but you can deflect their action or attention away from them in many cases.
Nice to see someone sees more to the story. Definitely the mens fault 100 percent, the women should be able to wear whatever they want. BUTTTTTT, dressing more expose and eccentric does increase the statistical likelihood of shit happening. Who knows, maybe it'll all go away and fix itself, maybe the women will stop caring about it happening or maybe the men will stop being dicks or raise better children. All I know is the only thing you can control for sure is yourself and your kids.. somewhat lol.
These two are a class act.
Thanks for inspiring me Russell Brand.✌
Awesome!!!
Great talk from Hyron, Hener and Hussell
what an amazing combination ..
This was epic!
Damn these guys are studs
Yes mate!
