    A free Taiwan is better for the Philippines. Not just for security but also it needs to safe guard and protect its citizens working and living in Taiwan as OFWs. There are over 150,000 Filipino OFWs in Taiwan.

    It’s called deterrence. You win by preventing a war. I think everyone is okay with the status quo in our region except China. There’s too much to lose for the US and players in the region if China succeed in taking Taiwan because of its importance. Taiwan is the largest producer of semiconductor technology. Imagine what would happen to the world if that stops or China take control of it.

    • @vivr670
      @vivr670 Před 6 měsíci

      Tell me what will happen if China succeeds? Lol. China is already leading in manufacturing, AI, biotechnology, and renewable energy. I don't really see the point of the US meddling with the internal affairs of China and Taiwan and having to involve the Philippines. They will rally behind the banner of being "democratic" again like how they justified the Vietnam War or any wars they've waged and lost in the Middle East.

    • @euphegeniadoubtfire1364
      @euphegeniadoubtfire1364 Před 6 měsíci +7

      By deterrence, the first thing comes to mind is a strong economy that can stand on its own 2 legs and one that is as much as possible less vulnerable to economic sanctions from any foreign power and I do not see how the country fits into that description. The better question you should ask is, what happens to the Philippines if China and everything comes that with her were to be removed on short notice? On Harvard's Atlas of Economic Complexities, the Philippines has China as her largest economic partner. When things go from sour to worse, what then?
      When things start to spiral out of control and China decides to target the country with economic sanctions because the Philippine government decides to play second fiddle to Uncle Sam , let us hope the Philippines will be ready for that because if you look all around you, practically everything that Filipinos buy and use everyday either have China made components or are made in China. I am emphasizing this because often people miss out the consequences of what the economic war of attrition will mean for the ordinary Juan. If not for the billions of support coming from the West, Ukraine would have already long collapsed because the economic war of attritition has that ability to bring down most countries faster than the wars fought on the battlefields.
      To datw, only Russia, despite being the most sanctioned country in the world has been able to survive that because it is a country that has obivously prepared for it.
      So if the Philippines truly wamts tp square off with China for a likely economic war of attrition to come, it too has to make preparations and I do not see that happening today not even on the drawing boards of the people in power in the country.

    A potential Chinese invasion or blockade of Taiwan will inevitably affect the Luzon Strait and Batanes Islands, both crucial for Philippine national security and international trade. So the Philippines has every right to bolster its military presence in its northern territories and waters with the help of the U.S. and other key allies and partners. The fact that China is reprimanding Filipinos for acting on our own national interest further shows that it has no respect whatsoever for its neighbors, global economy, and the rules-based order, all of which it has benefited and continues to benefit from.

    My Dad was stationed at Clark Air Base during the fall of Saigon. He said the was the hardest day he ever worked in his life.
    The base itself also had its ups and downs. Negative things that went down such as black marketing and disdain for the locals (lets face it it was the 80’s and the average American can’t tell the difference between a Vietnamese and a Filipino) which is what, story has it, led to upsetting the spirits to the point where they used the volcano to destroy the base. (Alotta spiritual stuff and magic used to exist back then too. Not my words, my relative’s)
    But I do think the Philippines would definitely benefit from American Bases tho. As long as the Americans respect Filipinos and their culture, and as long as they’re relationships are good, which they are, I think everything should do just fine.

    The problem with Mutual Defense Treaty is that it was signed during the Cold War era 50's - a time where China was not yet a threat. But now China is aggressive - anyone knows this. Taiwan is either aiming for independence or to reclaim Mainland China as the sole "One true China". Taiwan also claims what China is claiming in the South China Sea. So Filipinos should not just be complacent with Taiwan. I know many Filipinos work in Taiwan and Taiwan contributes to the regional economy and world economy (semiconductors) but at the end of the day, Politics is Politics and Business is Business.

    The US-PH MDT only applies if either US or PH is attacked, NOT the US or PH does the attacking first. In case US helps Taiwan, then the US was NOT attacked by China but rather attacked China via the US' strategic ambiguity principle on Taiwan
    Likewise, if PH retakes Sabah but without sufficient proof (or US chose to interpret it that way) that it's theirs, then the MDT does NOT apply. But if there's sufficient proof and Malaysia wont budge, then Malaysia is clearly illegally occupying PH lands, and so if PH attacks to retake Sabah, then Malaysian retaliatory attacks triggers MDT
    But that's just the law. The reality is different. China will likely do "preemptive attacks" against PH based on the assumption that PH will assist the US, and so clearly MDT applies. China may even preemptively attack the US based on the assumption they will intervene on Taiwan invasion, so MDT clearly applies also

    Philippines is a strong nation and country. By strategic position its excellent. It smiled in many face of death since the beginning of time. Laughing at campfire and coffee in its hand before kissing death. Literal. That country and people were Molded by pain, tragedy, slavery, and oppression without any fault. It fought and won with nothing in all wars. It helped many nations without asking in return. Put those in mind fighting with outnumbered and stolen weapons from the strongest opponent, yes it fought with no weapons and didnt surrender. it prevailed and won by sheer will and courage. Give it or teach it how to play with hightech and toys of destruction. Its going to be a perfect professional at its job. Picture this.... Many witness filipino nurses, doctors, engineers, inventors, singers etc, but have they seen filipinos work with death? . How good are they and harworking. Not a joke. Death is no longer to be feared off because weakness has left its core body long time ago. God and tradition are its only guidelines and weakness. Those filipinos smile means they overcome alot even fear. In reality its a nation built by death, courage and sacrifice. Many strongest race and conquerors in history tried and they all will tell the same thing... Its better to have it as a friend than an enemy

      Just remember the US also have overseas territories that are not considered a US State like Guam and Puerto Rico. So I don’t think we would be better off if we were still to remain under America.
