  • This is a short video of building a pavilion on the campus of Manderley Christian Camp. All the wood used to build the pavilion was milled from dead standing Poplar trees around the campus. It was a fun project and hopefully the next one will be a true Timber frame style.

Wow. What a team. That was just amazing seeing that go up.
I'd like a simple thing in my garden. Nothing as fancy as this. But if there were a team and materials going spare, I wouldn't say no. Lol.
Great job. A haven in the woods.

That thing will outlast all the homes built around it in the background.

Beautiful job! I've noticed with timber frame pavilions it's not common to have girts in between the posts as they do with timber frame barns (I imagine because it defeats the purpose of the design). I'm wondering how the structure doesn't rack front to back due to not having the girts. Do the braces on both sides prevent it with that size structure?

New subber. How did solar kiln work out? Out of all the solar kiln videos I've watched (15 or more) I like yours the best. Would like a video with wood drying in it. Ole south Georgia boy watching🙂.

I too subbed after the solar kiln video! I'm building my kiln off Scott's videos! using Poplar as well right from our homestead. Hopefully he will give us a new video update with a stack of wood drying in it!

I got questions. How far does the rebar go into the log and then how far does it go into the ground?

I believe we used a 2ft carriage bolt that is used for guard rails. Each post had a hole drilled in the bottom and it sat on a nut and large washer on the carriage bolt. We could use the nut to adjust the posts to be level of it ever settles.
