Salaams. The question wasn’t answered. The way Muslims should react to the attempted murder of Salman Rushdie is a complete and unconditional condemnation of the attempted murder. Whilst we can debate the varying goal posts of freedom of speech we need to condemn Ayatollah Khomeini’s fatwa, which was a complete political gimmick to increase his standing among the Muslim world. I recall quite vividly during 1989 when Dr. Kalim Siddiqui of the defunct Muslim Institute supported the fatwa and Shabbir Akhtar was part of the institute then, and seemed to support the fatwa. Now that Iran has distanced itself from the fatwa and it looks like brother Shabbir has also distanced himself from the fatwa, there should be a wholesale condemnation of the attempted murder of Salman Rushdie.

We Muslim value our religion more than anything else. Heck, Islam is a way of our life. If you insult it you are insulting us.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has more value than our mother, father, wife, son, daughter or anyone that may be our blood relatives or friends.
I will ask a question to non-Muslims what will you do when someone insults your father or mother before your face?
Well, I do know some of you do not value your parents, so I'm not talking to those fools, I'm speaking to those who know what respect for parents is or anyone close to them.
Salman Rushdi, may his soul burn in hell fire if he didn't repent, didn't just insult Prophet Muhammad(SAW) he wrote a book that was filled with lies, misrepresentation and defamation of the image of our beloved Prophets.
Imagined if someone you love, value and respect was the one that was written in that book!
Muslims need to understand that Dignity is above all else, even death! We should protect our dignity at all times with all our power!
What about the Dignity of our Prophet?
In Islam, it's haram to call your brother bad names. In fact, if a person lie and told that another Muslim committed Zina, the person that lied must be punished for falsely tainting his Muslim brother's dignity, image and personality!
What about the dignity of our Prophet?
Salman Rushdi didn't make just a few statements. He took the whole History of Prophet Muhammad twisted it and gave his own profane version!
Do you Muslims knows what that means?
This is an attempt to create many versions of Prophet Muhammad's history to confuse the world about who really he was. Salman Rushdi did a splendid job for that and his book was accepted because of his family and country background.
Before the likes of Salman Rushdi, Prophet Muhammad has been recognised and described in the whole world with great personalities. Where he was praised by many none Muslim scholars after they researched his life history.
That was what the enemies of Islam doesn't want!
That is why many versions of lies regarding him are in constant publication-and Salman Rushdi is just one of the most popular ones.
Islam teaches us to respect one another, Muslim or none Muslim. Good morality is a must whenever you interact with another human being and never harm him in any way possible, verbally or physically!
However, there is a line for all our tolerance!
Muslims are afraid to be called violent because they think that will make none Muslim call Islam a violent religion!
So what if they call it like that!? As a Muslim you already know your religion is not violent but why will you care if someone calls you something that you are not?
Heck, those that called you violent will still call you, no matter what you do!
So, stop shying away and fearing someone calling you violent, they will call you that no matter what.
What happened to Salman Rushdi is justified. He saw it coming and it's what he do and what he was doing that got him to be stabbed!
I'm ready to be called violent. Go ahead, you are wasting your time reading this.
We will fight for the dignity of our Prophet because his dignity is far more valuable than our miserable lives!
And, what happened to Salman will serve as a warning to all other enemies of Islam that want to defame Islam without context and just for the fun of it-they will be wary of what they say and what they do!
If we allowed ourselves to be insulated, defamed and also allowed propane things thrown at us, then we are no different from most Christians-where every bad joke and negative word were thrown at them and they tolerated it just because they fear others to call them intolerant.
Imagine looking at your face and saying Jesus is G*y! Subhanallah. And know what, the Christians will just shy away because they are afraid because of some stupid words.
I will end by saying that Islam teaches us to be tolerant, have good morals and also protect our dignity. However, tolerance has a limit, cross it and anything could happen.
    May Allah guide us!
    Masha Allah!

There's a more than simple answer to the travesty of the book being offensive. If you don't like the book, DON'T READ IT!
There are differences between the reaction to Rushdie and LGBT being criticised, however, its not entirely for the reasons that the dawah scene likes to emphasise. Beyond obviously, a reason it gets such attention and sympathy is because of how evil and bloodthirsty the attempts to censor him have been. If the attempts to censor him had belonged on the same shelf as Mary Whitehouse's attempts to censor Monty Python and the Life of Brian, it would have been largely treated accordingly.

Perhaps the book-burners and placard-wavers were, paradoxically, troubled by the first gremlins of doubt.”_ And that *doubt* is the source of the Muslim outrage.
*The reason the book offends Muslims* is because they know the verses were originally in the Qur'an (See book _Before Orthodoxy: The Sαtanic Verses in Early Islam_ by Shahab Ahmed) and the doubt is naturally deep in their minds that it _wasn't_ Satan who duped M and inserted it but that it was indeed M himself that put it in as he was trying a compromise with the Meccans to convert them. It didn't work and so the verses were removed with the claimed about Satan. After all, how likely could the prophet be duped like this when the Qur'an itself says that Allah protects it? And how many other verses then could be Sαtan's? The thought that's hidden deep in probably every Muslim's mind, that this book arouses, is that real possibly M was a _frαud!_

That said, I’m not implying the attack was justified in any way. But outrage at mockery and vilification of those most beloved used to be a natural human reaction. There is a reason such a reaction has never been seen when actual academics dismiss and criticize Islam. The whole idea of the “satanic verses” comes from Muslim sources, remember?? This isn’t anything new or original. It’s the manner in which the attack was made.
