Their original studio recording superimposed upon a live performance, and Route 66 scenery. Alex Blake on fretless Alembic bass (marked), Yaron Gershovsky on "keyboards".
I thought about Manhattan Transfer out of the blue this morning. Listened to this one and "Soul Food To Go." Did we live in a time of good music or WHAT?!!!
A very respectful reference to the original swing feel of it but with a cleaner Sharper, kick-up in it's measure of coolness! Smooth, sharp and precisely executed! It just 🌬 sails wide open!
Whoever put this together needs to be heartily thanked. Watching it was cheaper than the Time Machine I was going to purchase online. Smooth Jazz Rules!
The First Time!!! Yep...this was the first time for me hearing Manhattan Transfer, in Sharky's Machine...it has so much memory for me. This is by far the very best of any and all versions of Route 66.
I first heard this version by The Manhattan Transfer back when it came out in 1981,I was 22.I'm now pushing 63,and still love this song. This version goes through me like the blood in my vains, gives me the chills!.John M Guinto
Best version of Route 66, ever, just ahead of NKC! Thanks Burt Reynolds for having the good sense to include this in Sharkey's Machine. I would never have watched it otherwise!
Absolutely, THE finest version of this 50's jazz classic ! -------I've done Route 66 from Denver to LA, so many times I've lost count. I-25 to Albaquerque, then US 40, Route 66, all the way to San Bernardino.
A marvelous version of a classic tune by the great, under appreciated, Bobby Troup. I am so thrilled that I am still able to watch and, more importantly, hear, this fabulous music. Nothing produced today comes close.
Another exquisite representation of the fantastic, professional representation of popular music in the modern swing idiom that only the iconic Manhattan Transfer can provide! Makes me wish my '57 Chevy could actually make the trip!!
@@wannawatchu66 No it wasn't. It was the fretless Alembic you see in the video. Fretless can sound like an upright. This video is from my other CZcams channel.
I have to agree. I grew up during the 60's and 70's when Mic became popular and he may appeal to a large audience but the quality of voice and music that comes from the Manhattan Transfer is like trying to compare an agate to a diamond; Mic being the agate and the Manhattan Transfer the diamond.
Sadly only portions of the original Rte 66 survive today, buffeted with 4 & 5 lane highways, mom & pop diners have given way to mega fast food franchises, stores & hotels are now littered with nameless, faceless chain convenience stores & big name hotels. The original feel has been swallowed up by corporate American business. Very sad to see individuality erased by greed.
Hello, Avis? I want to book a trip on Route 66. Yes, I will pay an extra $100 a day extra for that Cadillac Escalade for that wonderful experience called -ROUTE 66!!

I love everything about Route 66 and also drove on parts of it 4-5 times now. My favorite was a road trip between Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada (there's a video on my channel here: czcams.com/video/5IMmr3w_8Ys/video.html). If you have sometime, check it out... I'd love to know what you think! :) Cheers!
Amen, What a great talent, not only as an artist, but as an organizer. Wonderful group that stayed together for so many years with many, many GREAT songs.

@ elvis presley718...I'm very discerning when it comes to music !...You comparing M. This version by Manhattan Transfer is truly the best I've heard. If you don't tap your foot to this version you are either deaf, or dead.
William M. Bash The deaf can feel the music. How insensitive.
Brother Billy, you are right on, my man! The whole Sharky's Machine soundtrack is brilliant!
This version never fails to get my pulse racing, get my blood pumping,I love it!!.John M Guinto

In my MT playlist with Nat King Cole's original version. Thanks for the upload!
The BEST rendition of this goldie!
My high school jazz ensemble took this and Nelson Riddle's version of the TV show theme and mashed them together. Smooth jazz masterpiece
These people are supreme like no other...bar none....love 'em !
This is my favourite version.

OMG That synthesizer-like harmony is BEAUTIFUL!
Cierto , y de los 80s
Love the bass guitar, this arrangement, best I have heard Route 66.
Except the bass in the actual was a stand-up, not a bass guitar.

CHRYSLER IMPERIAL 1960...
Couple of errors -- Route 66 goes nowhere near San Francisco. So it doesn't cross the Golden Gate or the Bay Bridge.
Route 66 Chicago to Santa Monica
Nat King Cole would have respect for this recording.
Thanks! Glad you checked out one of my videos!
Well... I can't imagine Mike Jagger singing! (Actually, he never really did)

Esta bien esta version, pero me gusta mas la version que hizo Depeche Mode cantado por Martin Gore.
Es mas moderna...
When we were bitchen
1:31 heed this warning regarding cali. lol
sure, it was fine in 1981, but I wouldn't waste my time in that quagmire.

you must be not very hard to please
i hate how they snap their fingers when they sing, imagine mick jagger doing that you;d think something was wrong with him
