Did I Sink My New Pavati Boat On Purpose For YouTube Views?

  • Hopefully this video helps everyone better understand what actually caused my new boat to sink. After a thorough inspection of the boat at Pavati headquarters, we found that the cheap rubber flip tab plug came loose at some point during the day but upon further inspection we found that the main rear bilge pump hose was not connected properly which happened while I was installing new batteries in the boat a few days before our trip. This was a complete oversight on my part by not making sure the bilge hose clamp was properly tightened.

      His error was acceptable. As a seafarer myself, I can totally see how the main bilge pump hose may have fallen off due to random maintenance carelessness - I would say that is by far the biggest problem and in face of that, the plug is relatively meaningless. My only problem with Dave is that he ignored the bilge pump warnings. On old boats you can occasionally ignore warnings if they are a constant problem and its clearly faulty wiring (should fix though). But on this brand new modern boat, you have to look at these things immediately because they are generally not wrong.
      Verdict: critical captain error --> not on purpose

    I’ve been boating for 30 years and can see how this happens. I appreciate you making this video and explaining all of the details. The important thing to me is if you take your family out have good fitting, comfortable life jackets readily available. We don’t always wear life jackets but they are ready. Second is (and I never did this myself) would be if you have children with you develop a family plan on how to safely get free from the sinking vessel and what your plan would be in this event. Kind of like a fire drill for boating.👍🏻. BTW… I’m jealous of your Pavati.😎

      @corail53 Před 2 lety +2

      Children should always be wearing their jackets regardless of what the adults do. It is amazing how many boating incidents can be prevented by just doing a thorough full check before hitting the ramp. I have seen wake board boats start sinking on ramps because they failed to even put the plug in, I have seen people try to power off their boat with trailer straps still attached, etc etc. As for it being faked or not - not really up to any of us to figure that out, that is up to the insurance companies and parks management who take care of the area to take care of.

I myself went through a similar yet much worse catastrophe. when I was 18 my father and older brother took a camping trip to lake Powell and were caught in a sudden windstorm March 31st 1983 a very long time ago. The outcome however had no silver lining. My father and older brother, nor the mother of the family that was with us made it. I love your videos and the work that you do. Anyone that thinks you of all people would do this for clicks is a complete ass. I admire your ambition and your content.

    For everyone’s information the flip up “lever” type plugs are being used incorrectly! They need to be adjusted to properly fit your boats drain hole,hold the rubber part in your left hand & turn the lever clockwise with your right with the lever parallel (in line with the plug)this will expand the plug just like the screw type. Then you insert the plug into the drain hole & push the lever up! This has to take some force to push up the lever or it is toooo lose & needs to be adjusted more. Also if u have access to the drain hole from INSIDE the boat install the plug from the inside. It can NOT be kicked or knocked out into the water & if properly adjusted & installed the plug is very tight in the drain hole! If by some freak chance the plug is kicked out it falls into the boat & can simply be re-installed. Safe Boating!

      Yea I came here to say this. I know it’s common for people to put plugs on the outside, but I’ve never understood why anyone would do this. It’s just to easy for someone to swim up to your boat at a sand bar and pull the plug or for a child to be playing and think it’s ok to unscrew the plug.
      My plug is always installed from inside the boat and is just part of my pre check before putting in water.

      Around this discussion about drain plugs it´s hard to understand the problems about it. When I´m watching boating videos from U.S. the (forgotten) drain plug is a hot issue very often. I´m from europe an for me (like the most europeans) it´s common sense to use drain plugs which are screwed (into a threaded insert which is part of the hull). Nobody can loosen this without using tools. Why do you need drain plugs which are easy to remove. Our drain plugs are closed the hole season. Boats are covered to avoid rain water to collect inside the hull. They are only removed for inspection or to completely remove the last drop of water at the end of the season and put back after ending the maintenance. Pleas give me an idea why 1) do you need to remove them so frequently 2) why not using absolutely solid drain plugs which are hard to remove.

      Sadly, there are some people in that social media game who happen to have children who actually would put their kids in danger...there are some skeezy people out there and the addiction to clout and the greed for more views more followers, more money, etc had a documented history of going to some people's heads and bringing the worst of their personalities and maybe some mental health issues to the forefront and leading those people to doing some truly insane and disgusting things. That being said, anyone who has followed this channel, followed these guys careers, or just paid enough attention to get a feel for the type of man Dave is, should not have any doubt in their mind that this was an accident. Of course as a viewer, nobody's truly getting to know any of these people we watch in social media in a personal level and you can only know what they show you. But over time, from seeing what these guys actually do, the good they do for others, the relationships they have with people who by all accounts are also good people, the generosity they've shown the insight into their character and seeing the sincere closeness they have with each other...there's no doubt that Dave is a solid dude who would never do something so stupid, destructive, and risky to his family.

    Dave, as a third generation boat dealer and certified tech I have seen and been a part of more insane issues than you can count and imagine. Yes sh*t happens to the best and most prepared boaters all the time and it’s usually the most simple things that can become a disaster. Great video, man that accident could have been so much worse if not for being prepared. Dave, way to set a good example in figuring out not only what went wrong, but assigning blame, to yourself. That's not an easy thing to do, but it's what a man with high integrity does, but the truth is the truth, even if it puts a dent in our ego. So far as some channel trying to use your boating accident to their advantage to further their cause, laughable, simply laughable. Keep up the good work!

    • @mrmotofy
      @mrmotofy Před 2 lety +5

      Yep, you're continually getting bilge alarms...one NEEDS to do a physical inspection of the pump area. I personally would have at least 2. I consider that a critical factor on a boat. As well has keeping like 5 plugs on board

    • @nedkelly9688
      @nedkelly9688 Před 2 lety +1

      Lol when 100-200 miles out to sea every alarm is essential. high maintenance on everything too. i have had so many issues and almost died at sea.. my god you make sure everything is perfect.
      Also see boat fires because morons don't air out their bilge. fuel and oils drop in the bilge and fumes build up and once turn the ignition or other source of Electrical, They go Boom.

After 5 minutes on the water we were heading back to the boat launch because the plug had already came out. Mr. Sparks please keep up the good work that you and your crew do for others. I have lost transom plugs twice, but always had a spare. I found out here in the desert it's best to buy new plugs every year. Thank God that no one was harmed.
