When it comes to ergonomic seam rippers, I like the one from Prym. You can use the cap to lengthen the end of it--or not. The end also tapers, so it sits in the crease your hand naturalls forms, rather than forcing a ball over the ball of your hand. The ball makes sense if you're putting force behind something, but if there's that much force necessary for seam ripping, you have bigger problems than needing to undo a seam, imo.

LOL, I agree that one shouldn't need force when seam ripping. Thanks for sharing about the Prym seam ripper. I have to admit I've never seen this brand in my local stores. I've found a good use for the big purple seam ripper used in my video...it makes a fabulous stiletto :)

Wow, so much to think about. Sitting erect is not a problem, typing class drilled that into me and I still prefer to sit straight. I have and prefer the Martelli rotary cutter, I can tell the difference if I opt to use a different cutter. I had heard of the tilting of the machine, however, I have never tried it. I will give that a try, and I was impressed with the “door-stop” remedy.

I've seen doorstops at the Dollar store in a 2 pack. So it's an inexpensive trial to see if you like it. 🙂

Thank you so much for all this wonderfully researched information. I’m going to put into practice many of the suggestions you made, especially the table height & chair height suggestions along with the tilted machine base idea. I’m going to research standing tables that adjust heights electronically. I think that might solve my problem of needing to cut and sew at the same table.
Thank you again for giving me such great ideas!

Your welcome. Let me know if you purchase a table that adjusts electronically and how it works. I've looked into some as well as I thought that would be ideal because depending on the shoes I wore (Danskos or sneakers) the table could be easily adjusted.

@@LibbyLaneQuilts Yes, that’s true. I like to stand up when I lay out and cut patterns so I think that would be an advantage.

@@LibbyLaneQuilts Have you ever seen a sewing table that had a” fold down section so that it could be large only when you needed it to be? I like my sewing room to have as much open area as possible so that I don’t feel claustrophobic, a problem that I deal with.
