    7:35 Two tricks for resetting your brain when you completely lose track of where you are:
    1. Walk out of the room, walk back through the doorway and reassess your view of what needs accomplished with a big picture view. Humans have a brain connection with thresholds for some reason. You can lost your thoughts or regain them this way.
    2. If you're a list writer go back to your list, review and make revisions if necessary. It does a similar thing as the threshold method of reassessing your big picture view, but on paper.

    Wow, storage is really expensive 😳😕! For $170/ month we rent a 8 x 8 x 20 foot sea container. We have 6 of theme at a storage facility. Our 4 car garage is full of inventory, which we are working on depleting by selling wholesale. Then we will work on the containers in the spring when the snow is gone... We are building addition to our house and another garage to add 2500 sq ft of space for our business... Looking forward to reducing our containers from 6 to 1 by October 2023... it's a hectic journey but it's fun! We love the freedom of not punching a card for a job! We both love what we do! My wife and I! 😆 Have a very merry Christmas 🎅🎄! Joe Bee 🐝 from 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦 Canada!

    My books are tumbling too! I literally have over 20,000 books in my death pile. I am disabled, so if I list 5 books a day, I'm doing good. So even if I didn't buy any more books, it would take me 11 YEARS to list everything. I try to bundle lots of large print Westerns or other lots, but then I find my disabled self trying to lift and carry a 20-30 lb box to the post office.......sigh.

    These might be redundant, as I have not read any of the comments below. 1) Here in the States, if one is moving house, the moving companies will drop off a 'pod' for you to fill. They will pick it up and bring it to your new destination. This might be a consideration if you are looking for some temporary storage on your property. It might be cheaper than a storage unit as well. 2) Consider hiring someone to help for a limited number of hours each week. You could then spend time doing your more profitable work while the 'employee' can do the less profitable 'grunt' work. You would probably make enough extra money using another set of hands to easily pay that person and maybe even make an additional profit. Doing everything ourselves becomes more difficult to do as we age....

    If you rented the 9 x 9 storage space for one year, it would be over 4K for the year. Consider re-designing the layout of the wall the photography station is on. I think there might be some wasted space going on the length of the room there. Everything should be from the floor up to take advantage of every inch of space you have, keeping in mind the computer desk and the photography station, which might end up looking different, but still functional, practical, and just as good or better than it currently is. The packing station also has additional wall space wasted. As your business grows, you're forced to reimagine your space multiple times.
    A CZcamsr I follow hired three different people from FIVER, at three different price points, to come up with 3D images of landscaping ideas for the front of her house. You're only hiring them for their ideas that you may or may not implement. Finally Mel, you know this has happened repeatedly and will continue to happen (not counting renting a storage space), so the first thing should be reimagining your shed, getting other ideas, and seeing if there is anything at all you can do to make more room. What about building the shed UP if you can't go wide? A second floor, not something you get on a ladder to reach! I hate to see you having to go to a shed, even if it's close by :(

    Looking a bit more like our storage areas. Just as you think you're about to get on top of it - someone phones you up with 10 x pallets of books then another person with a house clearout - come and take all our books. Aaaaargh

      It’s crazy how it just keeps coming. There is barely a dry spell when selling books. I need a clone of myself to help get them all listed!

    Instead of going the storage unit route. Could you instead maybe pick up a canopy shelter (or whatever it's called) in your backyard and stick some tables/shelves in that? Would be a temporary solution you can pull out from time to time when the need arises for times like you're having now.

    Hi Mel ...I definitely think you should look into hiring someone to help you out that can help you get ahead and focus what you really want to do. It's too bad that you can't get your family help out more too as a family business. If you can afford it have you considered budling a new addition to your house that could be built to what you need instead of just a shed for your business? You could then build shelves right into the walls as well/

    Hey Mel, would it be cheaper to buy a second hand caravan than pay for a storage unit. Thats if you have somewhere to keep it 😊.

      I would worry that it would heat up too much in summer and distort all the books. I base this on the fact that when I leave books in the car in summer, they can sometimes distort

    OMG Mel, I hear you !!! My house is FULL of books and camping gear at the moment! I've had a couple of great book hauls this past week and there are books and boxes stacked everywhere. I've also been gathering camping gear for my grey nomad adventure in Tassie early in the new year.
    You did a great job at clearing some space to actually work in. I'm inspired to get a heap of photos taken today whilst the natural light is great. Then I can list as I need too. Many of us admire and appreciate you bubbling on screen as it impels us to get moving. I know when I feel more optimistic I can zoom through the drudgery. When I'm not feeling optimisitic, I fake it 'til I make it!
    My secret bullet ( aside from a Mel clip) is to give my bathroom a quick clean & tidy, this never fails to help me feel I'm in the driver's seat and can achieve pretty much anything. Hey, whatever works right?
    Bugga about hiring a storage unit again but needs must for now. It doesn't have to be a long term thing - but it IS difficult to pass on a great haul, especially at the right price or FREE!
    I hope your kids can give you a bit of a hand over the holidays. I'm going to take some friends up on their offers to help me install some shelving and commence a new SKU system (eek!) to streamline things. This will also make it easier for people to keep business running whilst I'm in hospital - which is regularly.
    Anyway, Merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing you bursting form my screen in the new year! Cheers, Simone 🌲👩‍🦼🐔🐔🦆🦆🦜🕊

    • @sandrabentley8111
      @sandrabentley8111 Před rokem

      I think she means listed. With books you can usually scan the bar code on the books and all the details come up in the listing. Those are then drafts. She then photographs and adds to the listings, then launch.. I believe that's the order.

    • @storiesabound
      @storiesabound Před rokem

      @Sandra Bentley I use the app to scan for comps, but are you saying there's a way to scan and then create a draft straight away? I can't see how to do that

    • @storiesabound

    I've only started my ebay journey...previously was on Etsy...for many years...art/handmade/vintage..but making things is wonderful but takes ages sweating 😓 😮‍💨 making things by hand...i was also flipping furniture..had 3 shops long story short: father got sick I became co-carer besides mum...plus I was doiing uni...shops suffered...algorithms died...Dad got sicker...shops lost their momentum lost instagram followers etc...thought i could manage it all (superwoman) but then Dad passed this jan...
    *everything changed* 😢 😭 💦 💔 ❤‍🩹 .
    anyhoo on the mend now...decided to move to Ebay in my research phase now...with my listings planned in my schedule for 27th dec...I just subbed now. I watched about 5 videos and I had seen a few other local resellers youtube channels and you know what: You stood out! x
