  • In today's video, I apply pre-emergent way too late to my lawn. Well, technically, there is never a bad time to apply pre-emergent, but I did miss the ideal pre-emergent window by at least 4-5 weeks haha. I also apply the rest of my bag of Flagship fertilizer by Yard Mastery.

    Great to catch up on your progress in south Texas. Lawn looks really good. Here in middle Tenn we've been experiencing great spring like weather, still mostly dormant Bermuda with a little hint of green but we know it's too early to get too excited about a green lawn. Patiently waiting. Keep up the good work & videos.

    I threw down some pre-emergent about two weeks ago up in Virginia. We got HEAVY rain about a day later. I hope it all didn’t get washed out. I’d done a coat in mid January to help with some early spring weeds. So far it’s looking a lot let weedy.

      Well usually with pre emergent you want to water it down so it can go down to the roots of the weeds, so you have nothing to worry about!

    Oh dang, my yard is full of weeds due to my laziness and not taking of it in the past few years. I got that same bag of stonewall .68% in Lowe’s last Oct for $21, it’s now $44, not sure what’s going on with the price there, anyway, I didn’t know what i was doing and throw down entire bag on my 5k sq yard, now i wonder when i can apply again. My yard looks much better now with 95% less weeds than previous years. I am sure i have gone over yearly limit on prodiamine application.

      Just wait until next fall and you should be fine.

    Thevneighbor's yard is looking good. LOL!! I use Prodiamine granuals and then follow-up 3 weeks later with a liquid pre-emergent. No weeds in my lawn!

    I sprayed Prodiamine 65 WDG with Q4 post-em on my lawn in mid-February, and it seems to be working just fine. Planning on scalping the lawn and my first fertilizer application this week, trying to take advantage of forecasted rain later this week. I have some dead spots from last season's drought and some grub damage (will apply Acelepryn next month) and was thinking of delaying scarifying until my next fertilizer app and another pre-emergent application in early to mid-May. I was also thinking of applying some preventive fungicide app in May (had some issues last season as well). That'll be followed by top dressing the lawn.

    Better late than never. I put mine down late as well. My Chapin battery was dead when I went to spray and would not charge. It took me 2 weeks to get a new one and my soil temp was way above the 55 degrees for weeds to germinate. I`m sure being late will still help some but I like being early and didn`t plan on a dead battery. Now I have 2 just in case one goes bad. I`m waiting until 4-1-24 on my fertilizer application. Just can`t make myself put it down in March no matter how green it is. Keep up the good work.

      I will never purchase Chapin again. When my backpack 4 gal Chapin battery died the replacement was over $100 ( !!! ) so I switched to Petra Tools sprayers. I also did not like that the Chapin when worn as a backpack had leaks that put lawn poisons down my back. Petra uses lead batteries, not lithium, on their larger units so i got their 6 gal unit on a cart and the battery has been flawless for 3 years.

    I sure wish I lived in S Texas so my growing season is longer. Haha... But I have enjoyed the time off. Temps near 80 this week in NC so it's about to be go time.

    Hey man I live in OKC and we have cold weather coming in this coming weekend should I wait to put my pre-emergent Lasco and my flagship fertilizer out after that cold spell? I sure appreciate these videos. My yard was awesome last year because of them.

    Wait so what setting did you have your spreader at for the fertilizer? I have the same spreader?

    • @LawnInsider
      @LawnInsider  Před 5 měsíci

      I had the spreader set at 4 and 4 1/2 for these applications.

    Go to your local brake shop and get the shavings from them from turning the brake rotors. It’ll give your lawn a dark dark green color. It’ll take it about a mth for the to turn that green. Would be a deep dark forest green.

    Just put mine out also, finally finished my final scalp yesterday and tossed out pre-emergent,12-12-12 fert and insecticide. Any recommendations on a good weed killer for spot spraying crab grass ?

    I noticed you have two spreaders, you used the sta green both times, but not the other ( earthway?). Do you prefer one over the other?

    • @LawnInsider
      @LawnInsider  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The earthway one is actually the better of the two, but it slings the product a mile and my lawn is relatively small lol so it’s an economics decision!

    What should I do if I already have weeds? Should I lay the pre-emergent and then wait 2 weeks to put down a weed killer? I also have Bermuda.
    Is it too early to also level a lawn? Have some big dips in my yard. Will the grass grow through the sand and top soil?

    • @timborski1210
      @timborski1210 Před 6 měsíci

      Level it during growing season like May/June in Texas. It will grow through sand and soil just dont go too thick with it. I suggest tossing down a good fert app a week prior to leveling to help it push through.

      If your trying to get rid of weeds right now id apply a postemergent/ weed killer first

      The maple is always slower to bloom in the spring! It's got lots of buds. That elm tree needs to be cut back lol It's growing way too fast.

    Can I still apply a pre emergent on my Bermuda lawn after applying a weed/feed? I live in north Texas btw

    • @CaptainQueue
      @CaptainQueue Před 6 měsíci +1

      I live in north Louisiana where the weeds are tough to control. From what I recall, it is ok to separate pre and post emergents by a month so logically it does not seem like it would be a problem to reverse the order, not ideal but what the hey. Don't forget, some pros advocate a light pre-emergent in the fall so that is clearly after post-emergent. The past two years I have put down only one application each of pre- and post-emergent before summer at absolute max rate with good results. For post-emergent I use The Andersens brand granular with nitrogen (21-0-7 or something close) at max rate before summer and I have one of the most weed-free lawns in the neighborhood. I have to occasionally hand spray clover and spurge in addition to granular apps across the full lawn. Good luck in north Texas.

    Hello good sir what should folks like myself do with new sod? I just purchased our house back in January and we live in north Texas.

    • @chadcochran4654
      @chadcochran4654 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Don't put pre-emergent on sod until after the first year. Need to let the roots grow deeper than the pre-emergent layer. You'll just have weeds, some of which you can spot spray with a post-emergent with no problems.

    • @adamc1706
      @adamc1706 Před 6 měsíci

      @@chadcochran4654 2nd this as well, assuming they told you what kind of sod it is as well? If not you'll want to find out what kind of grass you have before applying any post-emergent. If it's Bermuda just feed it high nitrogen fertilizer, usually .5 -1.5lb of n per 1k sq ft a month, mow it often and make sure it gets adequate water.
