    Dychey wasn't the only one lost his voice that day. My one and only time at Old Trafford. What a game. And Mr Ellery, that was well over the line.

    I’d be gutted if I was a Chesterfield fan. What a chance to play in a Cup Final

    Still remember this. Sickening. We should of been in the final and with Chelsea already qualified for europe wed be in europe. Insane... Chesterfield in Europe. The goal was over the line and from memory im sure the push on Juninho was outside the area. Great game though.

      They decided that season that the finalists wouldn't get there. Personally, I think it was a second punishment for the Blackburn game. Whether they'd have changed it if it was Chesterfield, I couldn't say

    It's a sign that it's a Boro channel inasmuch that the Chesterfield 'goal not given' didn't show any replays from a different angle which showed the ball had clearly crossed the line. I guess Boro didn't want to dwell on that.

    • @neiloflongbeck5705
      @neiloflongbeck5705 Před rokem

      It doesn't matter if the ball did or didn't cross the line the ref decided that it hadn't cross the line sufficiently to give the goal.

    If this was a FA cup semifinal then how did it end in a draw?

    • @giles852002
      @giles852002 Před 3 lety +1

      In 1997 all FA Cup matches went to replays if it ended in a draw, including the Final.
      FA Cup Final between Man Utd & Crystal Palace in 1990 went to a replay after the first match ended in a draw.
      Even the EFL Cup (Coca-Cola Cup then) final between Middlesbrough & Leicester went to a replay after a 1-1 draw AET at Wembley, the replay was at Hillsborough stadium.

    Watching this again cfc outplayed Middlesbrough referee ellerey robbed us goal over the line and if it wasn’t a penalty should be awarded not a free kick to Middlesbrough then your penalty well outside the box by yards
    A error by referee which he admitted cost chesterfield a place at Wembley in the fa cup
    23 Years of being robbed by the the referee fair result that day chesterfield 4 Middlesbrough 1

    • @neiloflongbeck5705

      An Ellerey error got Midlesbrough relegated to the old Third Division at Shrewsbury when he gave a free kick to Shrewsbury after one of their players tripped over one of his team mates. Middlesbrough IIRC lost that match and went down on goal difference. Errors happen. If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors justbthe same; yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, and which is more you’ll be a man, my son!
