    ((**Quick note on the roller!** Forgot to put this in but obviously let the clay dry 24hrs before applying the varnish.))
    Hey guys, first off the Wizard Tower finale' is on its way! In this video I show you how I made my own stone wall texture roller for making the stone on the wizard tower/castle buildings. It's a very simple and easy method that gave me better than expected results that look just as good, if not much better than what I've seen out there for texture rollers on the market.

    awsome video, very cool rolling pin you made there. I found that (for me personally) it was easier putting the clay directly on my foamboard pieces 1st and then going over with the textured roller. After that i cut away the clay at the edges.. But again, my personal prefrence. But it would not be possible at all if it wasn't for your great tutorial on how to make it, so thanks alot mate, really!

    • @RealTerrainHobbies
      @RealTerrainHobbies  Před 5 lety

      Awesome. Yeah I did do a little of that on my tower build. I found pressing it down firm enough was an issue though when tring to go that rout so I mostly just ended up rolling it out first and then putting it on. If you got it to work well that way for you though then that's all that matters! :)

    Hi, this is really smart indeed. Creating your own tools according to your need.
    - You said "make sure the clay dries and hardens 24 hrs before spraying with varnish". Is it drying by itself or do you bake it at low temperature to help the drying process ?
    - Why using Varnish prime ?
    You are mastering the topic !

    Very interesting. I originally thought the clay was to become a mold for resin or plastic. I was pleasantly surprised when the obviously dried and hardened clay became the tool. One question, at the very end you cut out a very large portion of the tower, why? Curious minds want to know. Thanks for another great tutorial.

    • @RealTerrainHobbies
      @RealTerrainHobbies  Před 5 lety +4

      Ah yes I forgot to actually mention to make sure the clay dries and hardens 24 hrs before spraying with varnish. But yea, works great! As for the tower, I cut out that portion so you'll be able to get a look inside the tower once things all said and done. I'm going to be using some vines and brambles afterward to hopefully his the seam around the edges. Going to do what I can anyway to hid the seam for a "seamless" look.

    • @PaullaWells
      @PaullaWells Před 5 lety +7

      Real Terrain Hobbies - She didn’t lie. I could hear you, but I find constant background music distracting. I’m an avid documentary viewer and of late everyone has gone music crazy. Don’t get me wrong. Music has its place, but it can go overboard. Music to indicate the start, transitions, reveals, endings, etc. are a few examples of good music placement. Also during the nonverbal moments such as this video warrant the use of music. Believe me if I had a way to tell all documentarians this I would. You’re doing great. I’m glad you’ve found a way to distribute more content. I really like the idea of showing your techniques that will be seen in the major building videos. Super clever and I’m sure appreciated greatly by your learning viewers. I like it personally because I like learning what goes into making such beautiful and realistic creations. Explaining the techniques prior to the major construction videos will save you some work during the making of them and provides focused and detailed instruction/information. Win win all around. 😉

    So im just starting with modeling , therefor two maybe beginners questions
    Both clays you use, for the roll and then for the tower, i assume harden out afterwards so that the cobble texture stays in shape?
    Do you think this is also suitable to make a cobblestone road for my christmas village i am building?
    Thx for any tipps!

    This is great, thanks for showing and sharing, I'll be trying this soon enough out of interest what's the glue you used to stick the roller mould to the plastic tube you used? Great stuff, keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻

      Thanks! Glad you found it useful. The glue is a construction adhesive called PL Premium. It won't be breaking off any time soon, or ever. ;)

      @@RealTerrainHobbies great, thanks. I've just made a roller about 10 mins ago, I'll leave to dry tomorrow and hit it with the sealant as you've shown. Life changing I hope !!

    I model in N Scale for my model railroad. Making the clay roller impressions 'one stone' at a time wasn't possible. The stones were just TOO big. So I cut a piece of 1/16" thick basswood 1.5" diameter circle. Then filled the surface with small stones. About 50 of them. I added CA glue to lock them in place. Now I had a round stamp and I could do 50 small impressions at a time and stay in scale. My roller measures 1 inch diameter and 2.5" wide. Great for cobblestone road or walls.
