    This podcast had a very special meaning for me. A week ago I received a phone call that my son had been found dead in his apartment. This is something no parent should have to go through. What I heard Mark say is that death is a part of the experience of life. We can't experience life without experiencing death. This brought a sense of peace to me. Rather than fighting the grief, I can embrace it as a human experience. Erik is gone, but his memory can never be taken from us. Thank you, Mark, for helping me through this time.

    A general rule of life that's made living a lot easier for me: Never assume malice when incompetence explains the same thing. It's a lot easier to think about people not paying attention rather than thinking they're deliberately fucking me over.

    • @thelordmemnoch
      @thelordmemnoch Před 23 dny +1

      I don't know about this one. I have always thought this way and for the life of me couldn't understand why things weren't going better for me. Once I started attributing malice, rather than incompetence, not only did their behavior change, but my tolerance to them as well. I think the difference is between an isolated incident and a consistent pattern.

      Oh yeah, I used to do it so bad when I was younger. Got friends that still do. Like almost out shitty eachother when we're talking about our lives.
      Then one day I was like, fuck why am I trying to convince people my life sucks like i want to be unhappy, that's fucking messed up.

    • @arghya_333
      @arghya_333 Před 6 měsíci +6

      Yeah, I realized that after a certain point in life me and my friends started taking pride in getting lower marks. "Bro you are a topper, you don't enjoy life, look at me I barely passed without studying." Sure, enjoying life is important, but so is doing things that help you maintain that enjoyable life. Failing and repeating a semester will make your life more miserable than it is.

      I like victim Olympics, level up from what I had it set too as the “saddest story Olympics”. The worst thing about dissonance is that we all suffer from two truths in the same space that appose each other. How did that happen!!!

    As a High School PE teacher for 30 years, my students knew if they had me as their teacher they would need to "earn their balls" as I would say to them!. I was the black sheep out of our PE Staff who would simply take them to the gym, grab the Basketball rack and volleyballs and let the kids have them and then the teachers would chat. My students knew that they would have to earn their balls: 5 min warm up jog, stretch, calisthetics, planks, and top off with sprints and then they "earned their balls". Most of the time I did the workout with them. Nothing like getting paid to workout! And if it wasn't Friday, there was drills and skills to develop. I had so many students over the years come back to thank me explaining how my mantra of "earning your balls" applies to all of life itself for the feeling of earning your stuff and the feeling of Happiness(contentedness is a better term which is more sustainable as happiness is fleeting!)that comes with being self made. Earn your shit and you'll be content!

      I was at my lowest too just after covid. So much growth followed, it sounds cheesy maybe but it's the truth. The bigger the grief the bigger the potential growth. But you have to turn the tables thought, by face the primal cause of your state below the surface. For me it meant getting in a serious long term therapy, i think many people should to just like he said in the video. Unraveling past conditionnement. I'm the strongest version of myself now, life is good

      Then you'll like this....The Number One Absolute Truth that will change your life is so amazingly good and wonderful...that men have instead lied to themselves and denied this Truth, masochists that we are! What is that Number One Truth? YOU ARE NOT A "SINNER" AND NO ONE DIED FOR YOUR SINS...because "I have said ye are gods" as "the Kingdom of GOD is within you"!! You have simply forgotten Who you are (a son of GOD) and THAT is the "good news" of Jesus Christ that men have corrupted into the bad news of the anti-Christ, which is entirely untrue! The biblical prophet Elijah has returned, as prophesied, and testifies.

    I've read your book last year and I still remember some parts, including suffering. I'm now reading the sequel, but I feel that when I'll be done with it, I'll appreciate the first one more because it has made me think about pain as something that is inevitably sufferable, but at the same time, it is something we can choose to have mastery over/get used to so that we can gain the positives from our negative experiences.

    This was like a therapy session. "The I'm available for children's parties" sent me 🤣. Yet, it's true. I wish someone had told me life can and will be utterly awful sometimes. My expectations would have been lower, so every good thing would have seemed so much better. Enjoy the sunsets, and romance when you can. Pet a cat when you see one. One day you won't be able to.

I'm currently in the process of "changing my life" now, I quit my job and moved to Spain with a bunch of dreams and big ideas about how I was gonna rebuild and redirect my life. Turns out, it's not actually easy to do all this. I'm really feeling the pain of being WAY out of my comfort zone and having to either grow or fail. Well, I'm not gonna fail, but it sure is encouraging to hear the stuff you're discussing right now, this is exactly what I needed to hear! Thanks a whole bunch for what you do Mark!

    The worst self-victimization is happening in this era. People take years to move on from a hurt, like they can’t accept how could it happen to them. Suddenly everyone is facing childhood trauma and people are labeling every damn thing a trauma response 😂. Remember, humans have been facing trauma for centuries, they just didn’t have a platform to get justification of their bad behavior back in the day, they just sucked it up and tried their best and those who chose sanity and not victimization, and moved on, did good for themselves and for their family. Period.

    I agree with number 4, and that's why I think it's so much better to believe in the law of jante: that you are not special. Because the problem we have nowadays is we think if we did something good, if we believe we're a good person, or we worked hard then we should deserve "happiness" or for great things to happen, only to end up disappointed in the end. it creates a ripple effect in our lives such as envy, bitterness and hate (towards others) and depression.

    The reason I resonate with you as a person Mark is that I listened to your audiobook 5 times in the past 3 months and I really had an lightbulb type of moment and said to myself damn. it wasn't the lack of knowledge or my unwillingness to work hard on anything I wanted to pursue it was thinking that I needed to follow anyones "path to success" and I cried realizing that at 23 years old but now I am more happier and less stressed without having the need to people please and be overly nice as I had been in the past so thank you so much for being who you are and making me love myself more with the flaws and narratives I've said to myself in the past. 💯💙🙌🏾

You can be kind as a man but remember the only thing people love unconditionally are: Women, children, and pets so your worth as a man is only what you can provide also remember that everyone has 24 hours in a day in that 24 hour period you can either make your life or break your life. Hope that helps! 💙💯❤️‍🔥💎

    For me my story unraveled in my 20s by joining the military all my life i had been trained and had the story of. I am a warrior. I literally fight for the things i believe in. I also had the story that warriors keep the peace by protecting the innocent. That narrative was shattered to pieces on my deployment to afghanistan for sooo many reasons.
    I realized that I wasnt defending the innocent. I was defending the war profiteers. I also realized that by killing and fighting in a war i was actually causing more violence. Violence does not beget peace. Its quite the opposite. But ive been told this lie my entire life. And american society is complicit in this lie 24-7. This experience changed my life for the better and now i have a totally different story and identity but i also didnt discard the good warrior ideals i reconciled what it means to be a peaceful warrior. ❤ its why enlightenment just means so much to me. I got out of the military and a couple years later became a middle school social studies teacher.

    Mark you just makes things make sense😂 I'd love if you could do an episode/video on relationship/dating advice. I love your models book and it changed dating for me in so many ways, but I'd love to hear you offer a lot of that advice again/in the current year we're in. Thanks!!

      Models: Attract Women thru Honesty was published in 2011. That's coming up on 13 years ago. The premise for dating and being vulnerable hasn't changed. If you've read the book and your dating life isn't satisfactory then one of two things happened. You gained knowledge that you never learned how to practically apply, by well, practicing. Or Mark is full of shit and sounds good on paper but doesn't pan out in real life. A third option may come into play. I'm a self-improvement junkie and can't get enough of what should I do next when in reality I haven't done anything suggested from the beginning.

    Hey Boss, don't keep all the good stuff only for yourself, buy your employee a better webcam! :)
    I am following you for a very long time, and I really appreciate your work! Thank you!
    I know that people these days can't watch videos longer than 30 seconds, but those probably aren't your audience, so maybe it's not a bad idea to try to cut/edit less and move to a more like live show. And there are times when you need to reflect on something important, of course you can pause the video, but I don't think trying to be the most brief possible is the best solution. People who like you, want to see more of you!

    I found his article Why We Forget Most People Are Good, learning bits of History, and Hanlon's Razor help keep me somewhat sane in these troubled times.
    Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Perhaps kinder to swap out the word ignorance for stupidity at times!
    Most people mean well overall, are a little self-interested, self-absorbed, and occasionally selfish in petty ways, and the past really was the worst even 100 years ago, never mind further back!
    All of our dodoo stinks of dodoo, and it is those who try sell us theirs as strawberry ice-cream who are the most troubling.

    Hi Mark, I love your videos. Always. I totally agree with you that we are all flawed.... The degrees of separation between someone that lives a very successful life and someone that struggles to get enough money to get groceries. Each week is very minimal. There are just little moments where peoples lives change. It might be that guy that goes through a red light and hundreds of guys will go through a red light every day, but maybe you are just unlucky and you hit somebody and that person dies you end up in prison does that make you any less of a person than the person that went through the red light and didn't kill anybody probably not we are so quick to judge. I've worked in addictions for almost 11 years now and pretty much everyone that comes in has a story and that story is one of struggle and I try and make their life better but I love your videos and you mentioned empathy I just wish the world was more focused on empathy for human beings that have struggled many of my clients say to me I wish I had people like you in my life more because people like yourself and me, and other people who show empathy no matter what the circumstance, I just not many of us on this earth. Everyone is so opinionated and wants to punish people. Here is a stat for America has only 5% of the worlds population, yet it has 25% of the worlds prison population so America unfortunately has this culture of locking people up thinking that this will fix the country and we keep seeing more and more crime. It just doesn't make sense to punish people for something that was 10 second mistake.

    Realising what part you took in your own suffering is very difficult. Particularly if you come from a background of abuse because it not only humanises you but it humanises your abusers. If you are capable of mistakes and failure so are they.
    I got an ADHD diagnosis and I saw all the common factors that to me were now no longer my fault, but those factors were in my parents too and they were very violent and emotionally abusive toward me. Now I have to see that at least some of that was their undiagnosed and untreated ADHD coupled with the era they were born in.
    We are not responsible for our faults nor are we responsible for our good deeds. We do have to behave as we are though or we will never get better

      To say you aren't responsible for your actions isn't right. Perhaps it's the word "responsible" that is at issue. And if you Google the definition, you get two types of responsibility:
      1. Being in charge of something; being accountable for it, and
      2. Being the primary cause of something, and so being able to be blamed or praised for it
      Which one is the responsibility we don't have?
