Man I love history, theology, mythology, and so on...I want to learn more about these things but I never retain what I learn and sitting down and trying to study stuff is really hard, especially actually retaining the knowledge I find. I never went to college and barely scraped by in high school so it's not exactly my strong suit lol. Even when I watch videos like this or listen to podcasts I'm always half-paying attention and half-doing something else. Anyway thanks so much for these videos, I love them
There's no one way to learn for everyone and it's unfortunate that schools all teach pretty much just one way! I had to learn a lot on my own.

As a classical philology minor, I ate well in FFXIV Endwalker with all the Greek names and concepts. I can only imagine how much this game caters to your taste with this many historical references and Christian concepts (even if most are just borrowed in name).
Thank you. There was quite a lot in Shadowbringers that really explored the Christian concepts so that expansion is a very special one for my interests!
Oooh, looking forward to that long form one. As someone fascinated and excited by Transhumanist ideas, and a fan of the RPG Eclipse Phase, I really enjoyed the final zone of DT and the questions it raises.
Questions that get far more difficult in a setting where the existence of the soul and an afterlife and reincarnation of objective demonstrable facts.

Speaking of druid-themed white mages: The Conjurer is actually called Druide (Druid) in German!
That's really interesting! I don't have any experience with the German Language but it seems like there's a lot of connections in that translation of the game.
@@Ailuromage The German translation is mostly based on the Japanese as far as I know. So there are alot of differences between the German and English versions!
Your channel is something I have been waiting for a very long time, historical and mythological references in games has always been something I loved - especially when they go beyond "cool name" and actually incorporate those aspects into the game's narrative.
I started playing FFXIV in early 2014 and always have been curious about ability names - I remember being obsessed over the different Scholar ability names across localizations. I do find Scholar is a bit inconsistent with its theming - maybe you can make sense of it haha.
Your video on the Lightwardens is probably my favourite since learning about Storge actually made me appreciate the entire 'trolley arc' way more since it was extremely fitting given what happens in the story during that part

In the future I would like to explore other games as well but for now it feels like there's so many fun things to discuss in FFXIV.
Feels like the game just puts names of stuff as abilities and there's no deeper meaning to it. So I enjoy hearing research into their meanings and how they could be appropriate for what they do. For some reason, gunbreaker has a lot of rocks- me learning what corundum and a bolide are.
