    Those northern Jacana chicks stole the show ; especially the third chick finding a spot to hide and daddy always makes room for all his chicks 😍. The green honey creeper is too cute .

    I visited South America (Guyana) after I first saw this video, so it was nice to revisit it and see some of the birds I saw over there, like the palm and blue gray tanagers.
    I hope you guys get to make some tropical birding trips again. It was fun seeing you in a different kind of environment. I highly recommend Guyana. It's not as well known, but with over 785 species documented, it's an incredible place to bird and great value for your money.

    Somehow I knew that white spot on the path you were walking was a caiman as soon as that clip started. I was afraid you were going to step on it, but I guess it didn't want to be stepped on. About the birds, I think that if I ever get to go to Costa Rica, I'll be so overwhelmed with all the birds that I won't be able to identify any species. :D That's cool that you were able to capture the jacana with its chicks.

    • @BadgerlandBirding
      @BadgerlandBirding  Před 2 lety +1

      Haha, yeah! I was worried I would be too overwhelmed the whole time but I pretty much just felt energized all the time. The hard part is not knowing what's "rare" or not, so it's hard to know what species to focus on. Every bird we saw I felt like I might never see it again so I took lots of videos, haha. If I knew I might have a better view of something later I probably would have managed my time differently.

    • @ABirdersParadise
      @ABirdersParadise Před 2 lety

      @@BadgerlandBirding True! I think I would spend several months in advance trying to learn what's rare and what's not, but even then, I would probably forget it all as soon as I saw a bird.

      @BadgerlandBirding  Před 2 lety +1

      I used "The Birds of Costa Rica: A Field Guide (Zona Tropical Publications)" by Garrigues and Dean and it was great! According to a few people I talked to there, it's the best one. However, a few of the species were split/lumped since it was published in 2014. There's also a guide by the same authors but with photos instead of illustrations.
      Here's a link on Amazon if you're interested: We do earn from qualifying purchases which helps us out! I think I'm going to do a review about it on the channel soon too.
      amzn.to/3oCusCG=
      I also used the Merlin Bird ID app which worked really well, except when I didn't have reception, which was in a lot of places because I didn't get an international phone plan.
