    You down grade the a400 for things that can be adjusted with stock spacers and the shim kit for drop. The a400 shooting high means not enough drop - for you. That is why it hit your cheek too hard. You can easily add a different shim and give it more drop and more or less LOP to make it mount better. Sounds like the browning was just lucky that it fit you correctly out of the box. The beretta can easily be made to fit you or anyone, easily.

      Out of the box the a400 comes short for cold weather shooting, ie a jacket or two is your extra spacer to get a longer LOP.

      Isn't this dude sponsored by Winchester who is joined at the proverbial hip with Browning. Here in North Texas we have seen several Browning's ceracoat scrape off and the steel rust. Add to the price of the Browning's stock fit that a gunsmith would charge to cut and refit. The only negative that is legit on the A400 is the weight.

      Greetings from Colorado!
      I have 3 Beretta Xtremes in the family plus the A400 plus. No issues, between the 4 guns, we have fired thousands of rounds through them. Not one issue. With Browning firearms, I have always had problems. I have a Citori O/U, 3.5 chamber, trigger issues, I have a Browning Gold, trigger and jamming issues. I may have pointed this out to Steve in another video. I will never buy a Browning.............even if it's given to me for FREE

    Knocking on 10k on my a400. 3/4 of that being target loads and I remember once so far I shot the last shell and it didn't fully eject, I had to dump the shell out of the chamber. Mine was off for me out of the box. I used one of the shims and the wedge now its perfect every time.

    A handy feature that you missed mentioning in this video as well as the in depth video on the A400 is the unloading. Much safer. Rack the shell out of the chamber and then lift the loading shelf and pull out on the bolt release. Very handy in tight quarters and as I mentioned safer.
    Nonetheless great videos! Adjust that beretta with the shims and you'll be in love. I had a original maxus in the past and the failures to eject had me fed up and out buying the A400 xtreme plus.

    • @kellypetersen8457

      You can pull the rounds out of the mag tube on the maxus very easy by pushing up the lifter and then hitting the side catch for the rounds in the mag and then remove the round from chamber. At least thatโ€™s what I do.

    I pick Reliability over everything else. Ergonomics can be fixed with more training and trigger can be adjusted or replaced with aftermarket version. If the gun doesn't cycle 100% it's not for me. Beretta should have been clear winner. I don't have either brands, so it doesn't matter to me.

  • @The_Rebel_Mound
    @The_Rebel_Mound Pล™ed 2 lety +17

    Not gonna lie, I love your videos, been watching you and your brother for a while but I felt like this was a video about shilling for browning. I don't mind you saying you prefer the browning but I'd have liked to see more reasons why each gun would work for more than just you (ie, the drop of the Beretta stock is better suited for cold weather shooting so the gun doesn't have to be as high up on your shoulder, I didn't see things like that, I felt like there was more reasons given for the outside shooter to choose the browning). That's just the impression I got, but I still give it a thumbs up because I like that someone is at least taking the time to do comparison videos and spend as much time as you did doing this video, and I'll keep watching your guys' videos. Best shotgun channel on CZcams.

    Kick- off system of Xtreme Plus is the best in the sector. Perceived recoil on the cheek can be as claimed but it's definitely the lightest recoil on the shoulder. To be fair, t's better to try the recoils on the table as they do it for the rifle recoils. A400 XP recoil will be much less since it's heavier and it has better recoil reduction system.

    Being a lefty, Iโ€™d pretty much narrowed my search to a Beretta A400 or Benelli SBE3. I hadnโ€™t even thought about the Maxus until the local shop told me it could be set up to fit me for both cast and drop. Being a long time Remington shooter and preferring gas over inertia, it was pretty much down to the guns in this review. After watching these head to heads and the individual reviews of each, I have the Maxus 2 with the safety flipped and the cast shims set up for my preferred setup as a leftyโ€ฆeven with the downside of hulls crossing my face, the Maxus 2 just hit all the boxes, and birds, for me. I have a 1st gen Maxus Wicked Wing. Absolutely love the gun. When deciding between the 2 without ever shooting either, the deciding factor was the safety location vs the A400. I have the same preference as you. Crossbolt safety feels more natural on the back side of the trigger guard. I've even shot 1oz loads out of my 3.5" Maxus on the skeet field. Never had actual cycling issues, but about 50% of the time, the bolt doesn't lock back on the final shot.

I also had trouble mounting it, not enough to stop me from blasting pheasants and geese, but enough to be noticeable. It is also heavy, which in waterfowl, is not that big of a deal. That being said it is still one of my favorite guns, my shoulder is never soar and I love to shoot as fast as I can. Everyone who shoots it loves it as well. Recoil is a bit of a concern for me because a shoulder issue but so is having a consistent mount between shots and when I throw it up.

    Great review, got the maxus 1 myself, did test the Beretta too. Maxus 1 has the fastest breakdown of any gun. Also you did one mistake in removing the bolt of the maxus and you lost time. Also cycling issues might occur in browning if you cycle lightish loads and you hold on pressing the trigger... Maxus 2 looks great patterns better (as maxus 1 does) but I think is the same as maxus 1 just with a screw cap for adding larger magazine.

    Why did they do away with the quick release end cap on the original maxis? And on a side note Iโ€™m curious as to why the maxis had trouble with cycling when you held it loose, usually thatโ€™s an inertia system flaw not gas. A gas system doesnโ€™t need the recoil to function.

    • @TargetFocusedLife
      @TargetFocusedLife  Pล™ed 3 lety +1

      On the forend cap, my assumption is because it limits people from putting on a magazine tube extension, at least that was the reason I didn't like it. Even gas guns rely on the inertia to help cycle. They use gas to help push the bolt back but if the gun isn't held solid like it normally is against a shoulder the energy is absorbed differently. Think of hitting one into your other hand that is held firm. Then hit your hand into your other hand while it is moving away from the hit. Which scenario transferred more energy? Hope that makes sense. ๐Ÿ‘Š Stay Target ๐ŸŽฏFocused (Hebrews 12:1-3)

      @@TargetFocusedLife We bought the gun last week and it came disassembled in the box. I did wipe it down and swabbed the bore but did not see excessive grease or lubricant and it looked good to go. I shot about 30 rounds and included several different brands (all 2 3/4, 1 1/8 oz - Winchester AA, Remington STS and Aquilla). At this point, I decided to stop shooting it until I could get the gun checked out. It would not cycle any of the rounds into the chamber and most did not eject or jammed. We carried it to the local range (Georgia Gun Club - they have a rifle and pistol indoor range as well as sales and a gunsmith). They advised sending it to the manufacturer. Beretta should get the gun today (fingers crossed).

    When it comes to my waterfowl gun all I care about is reliability. Recoil and smooth shooting is also pretty important if you are shooting a whole case of 3" or 3.5" shells in a hunt so your shoulder isn't killing you by the end of the hunt and Beretta does a good job at it. You might feel it a little more in the face than the Browning but I dont tend to feel recoil when hunting. Like sighting in my 300 Win Mag is awful, but I cant even feel it at all when shooting at a deer. Lol. I've had my A400 Xtreme since they originally came out in 2012 and I can honestly say that 2.75, 3, or 3.5 I have never had a single jam in the gun. I'll choose reliability 100% over anything when I comes to waterfowl hunting. Reliability is the main reason I very much dislike all the Benelli SBEs. If you have bad footing or get a weak shoulder because you are standing in the marsh swinging for a bird and you loose your balance you take a good chance of the Benelli hanging up. My buddy has the Browning and ive hunted with it and it is an amazing all around gun, but I still take my 12 year old Beretta all day long for reliability. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ
    P.S. a bunch of my friends all shoot Benellis and they are good guns don't get me wrong, but I cant count how many times a flock of birds have been crossing over their shoulder and they kinda had to bend in a wierd position to get the shot off around the edge of the blind and they get one shot off and it hangs up.....the inertia systems just are not for me. Lol.

    I don't have the maxxus but I've got an A400, an sbe3 and an A5. I've changed the shims and drop and cast on the A400 and it still punches you in the cheek. The fit of the A400 just doesn't match that of the others I have. It's heavy, not balanced as well and what he said about the grip and trigger was spot on. It just doesn't come up as natural as the others.

    A Maxus 2 is the refinement of the original Browning Maxus and demonstrates that Browning listens to their customers and potential customers. The nickel Teflon treatment and pegs in the rear of the forearm keep the forearm from getting loose and wiggling loose. Maxus 2 with a 26 inch barrel is my choice. And at 7 pounds a nice carry weight for an all around shotgun.

      I too have a Browning Maxus 2 with a 26โ€ barrel. I love it. I tested it on the skeet range. I have 100 rounds on the Skeet Range. Not a single mis fire or mis feed issues. I was shooting handloads. Remington Gun Club 2 3/4โ€ Hull 1200 FPS. Great shooting gun.
