I admit to looking at this one repeatedly. There is something about Days of Wonder games that just looks so good but, as you point out, they just don't quite pull it off on the table.
Exactly my thoughts. Played it twice, thought it was pretty neat, instantly forgot about it again. Also not colourblind friendly so I suffered a bit. I'd probably play it if someone suggested it, but wouldn't choose it myself
This went on super clearance in a month by me after release. Amaterasu breaks the game because she literally doubles your VP chips. And unless you’re asleep while playing this, you’re going to be squirting them out every turn.
Christ, this is crap of the worst order, a tedious assembly of tropey euro-mechanisms titivated up with a pasted Nipponese theme. I mean this game has as much in common with old Japan as I have with the Emperor Heliogabalus. All too typical of the modern sleug market, alas.
Furthermore. I have little time for the progressives on BGG especially those whining about “cultural appropriation “ but this sort of theme-slappery almost makes their case.

somehow not getting a recommendation feels refreshing
Thanks for covering this! Was tempted by the deluge of cheap 2nd hand copies that were kicking around but needed more info. Got that info today 👍🏻
Such a valid review. I have played it a couple of times and wouldn't hate to play it again, but would never chose to play it. A solid 6/10 game.

Thanks, great video!
Were you in the film "Locked, Stocked, and Two Smoking Barrells"?
Yes mate…I was Jason Stathams stunt double
We play this quite a bit - we think it's supet. Real brain burner. And no ageist design.
Was looking at this one although not super seriously. I think this one's a pass now. Thanks for the video.
Totally agree.
Thanks for the review. Have seen multiplie copies for sale on my local used market. Never was drawn in, after this review, a hard pass.
I like the theme, but the colors are rough on colorblind people
I loved the look of this and ordered from my local game store. After two plays I gave it away. It was complete trash to me.
Great game - rewards clever play.

Squirting? 🧐
Don't mind me. Just waiting to hear clarification on "squirting".
:)
I agree, I owed the game from release and played it 4 times over 3-4 years before I moved it on. Was a forgettable game with very pretty art.
I liked this game ok but yes didn't love it enough. I'd rather just play another Bruno game.

Not Cathalas worst steaming turd, but believe me when I say I’d rather play Zany Penguins
