- UPDATE! I have now been steered to a COMPLETE version of this classic. It's a bit fuzzy and the ratio is wrong - but if you download it and show it in 16:9 it should be right. In the public interest, I am giving my "rival" a free plug! You can find it on • Cab Calloway Minnie ... - But I DO have a complete version of Cab's reading of "Blues In The Night" from the same period - you can find THAT on • Cab Calloway - "Blues ... Enjoy!

After finding Cab Calloway, no other music satisfies me as much as Cab. Unbelievable energy
He was one helluva showman and still a legend
Same
You and me both. All modern performers are so fake. Cab could sing, dance and entertain!
They don't make ' em like Cab and orchestra anymore....and never will again
I agree yet you have Hendrix as your pfp
Cab Calloway was ONE OF A KIND... and that he had a career in entertainment that spanned OVER SIXTY FIVE YEARS is a testament to just how AWESOME he was.
Every single one of these guys look like they are having the time of their life and they are loving it
I wish I could go back in time and meet this dude
He was a good looking man too.
Who the hell gives this a thumbs down?! I mean... to be here you must 've been searching for this.
Eva Papadimitriou might have been on a little refer but it's also just him. his energy
Eva Papadimitriou musical Philistines.
What your saying is the only reason they searched cab Calloway and his orchestra is to dislike this song
My school gave this. ‘K brah! I hate this!
I can tell you who. The grandkids of Minnie the moocher. Thats who!
They look happier than what's possible
Zé Miguel Santos All the reefer.
Well, they ain't living in today's shitty music, so there's that.
Usually the telltale sign of a sad man.
Devin Labuda like how comedians come from tragic backgrounds
IT WAS ALL ABOUT CLOWNIN FOR WHITE FOLKS, CAB WAS HELLAVA ENTERTAINER, BLACK GROUPS SEEKING EQUALITY TRIED TO TELL CAB NOT TO CLOWN LIKE THAT, BUT THE MONEY WAS GOOD SO CAB KEPT DOING IT. JOSEPHINE BAKER LEFT AMERICA BECAUSE OF RACISM TO MAKE MONEY IN PARIS, BUT STILL HAD TO CLOWN AND POSE ALMOST & SOMETIMES FULLY NUDE PLUS ACT A FOOL THERE ALSO, SHE ALSO HAD TO PROSTITUTE HERSELF IN PARIS, ESPECIALLY DURING THE WAR EFFORT DURING WWII
The smile on the bass player
this is proof of the power of pure talent , everyone always knew what these songs were about - but even the most uptight accepted it because he was incredible , irresistible , brilliant and mesmerizing !
xx xx most people in the 20s and 30s when this stuff became popular thought this type of music as subversive and anti Christian. It was a threat
Al Capone - yes sir, even before Elvis. Anything different from their norm was subversive in their little minds. As for the thumbs down, little mind, Cab was ahead of his time and great.
@@ronroberti8082 Can´t see any thumbs down....
THE jazz scene was huge. Uptight people accepted it when Black folks sang. They only became outraged when white children sang or danced to it.
If you don't love Cab Calloway doing Minnie the Moocher, then you just don't love great music! Timeless...
re: Minnie's trips to China Town with Smokey... "Kicking the gong around" was slang for smoking opium.
On TV prints of "The Blues Brothers" (1980) that line has but cut for that very reason!
@@l.salisbury1253 Perhaps as Belushi died of a cocaine overdose.
Although he was cokey
He's still the coolest cat around
Can Calloway gave the meaning to the word " cool". He was the coolest.
Oh Yeah! This is pure 24c GOLD 🌟
What talent, what brilliance from Cab and every single member of his band!
All of these cool guys performing together in perfect sync...... and loving every second.
Takes me to Chinatown and the gong..... and then some 🚬
Cab Calloway is the King of Swing none of us
saw him live at the diplomat on miami 1966
How old was he at the time?
@@higfatforever4503 60
I saw him live at the Barbican theatre, London in about 1985. An old man, but boy, could he still do it and brought the house down when he opened up with Minnie the Moocher! God bless you Cab.
how old are you now?

Not to put a damper on such an extraordinary performance, but while I love watching these brilliant musicians and Cab Calloway perform, still struggle to comprehend how so many millions of Americans cherished their music, listening to them on radios as families, watching them perform on live tv, in theaters, with all of their contributions to Jazz, Big Band, Swing to Dance and Orchestra. Yet enough American's were at the same time COMPLICIT in upholding the state and federal laws that reminded these elegantly impeccably dressed and polished men, once they stepped off the stages and glittering lights into the shadows, they were required to use the back door to an alley. Same exit as the food delivery and garbage. Unable to celebrate the nights performance in fancy restaurant or nightclub like other celebrities of the era. Knowing behind those big happy smiles, when the cameras stopped, ALL were segregated and forbidden from attending or entering public schools and universities, public parks, theaters, restaurants, bus and train stations, restrooms, building entrances, elevators, cemeteries, amusement-park cashier windows, public pools, phone booths, hospitals, asylums, jails and retirement homes for the elderly and handicapped. 80 years later we are still witnessing Jim Crow era violence and not just the Deep South but in the northern cities.
Jimi Hendrix once said that if you want to play the blues you gotta live the blues. Their suffering showed in their music and they gave it a lot of love.
Democrates always thought they were better than blacks even to this day all people need to judge people by there personally and not the color of there skin
when music was style, classy, fun to listen, delightful
Now we had classical, folk, jazz, blues, rock 'n' roll, pop, techno, rave, country etc,
And then we had CAB CALLOWAY!!
Timeless, what a performance. X
What a scatman Thanks Mister Cab for your hapiness 👍 🙏
Love the way he moves and sings. I also love that he stood up for his chocolate bunnies at the Cotton Club. All or nothing. Of course he won. He is genius in changing and influencing so much about music. Too bad he isn’t remembered as much as he should be by younger generations. I watched a documentary on him at 25 yrs old and fell in love. How couldn’t you?
I think the bassman has a lot to hide...
Either that or a small, innocent secret...
Hard to tell really...
His eyes! So full of life and joy!
This Classic track wouldn't be out of place in early Tom & Jerry Cartoons soundtrack...
I was thinking the same thing. I watched The original Tom and Jerry all the time when I was a kid
On this day in 1967 {March 19th} Cab Calloway performed "Minnie The Moocher" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...
He first recorded the song in 1931 and it became his signature tune...
In 1980 he appeared in the movie 'The Blues Brothers' and also performed the song in the movie...
He also titled his 1976 autobiography 'Minnie the Moocher and Me'...
R.I.P. Mr. Calloway {1907 - 1994} and Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974}...
MINNIE THE MOOCHER was also a BETTY BOOP cartoon with Cab Calloway in a cameo in the beginning.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
That bassist.
Marvelous
Marry me 😍😜

The Cotton Club brought me here. Outstanding movie and outstanding song by Cab and his band!

Y'all 47 people were so shook by this guys talent that they missed the "like" button
LOVE CAB!!!! RIP (Curtis) Elwood X
Great! I am glad you restored the complete lyrics and not the cleaned up version.
Thanks. My mom taught me ALL the lyrics.

Che bello,allora è conosciuto anche qui❤
... love the style of the zoot suits... CC
Love this song; I am not the youngest person: what I miss is the third verse. Let's remember that Cab wrote this song about his sister; he didn't exactly approve of her behavior regarding alluring rich males: she was astonishingly beautiful.... Hey, I would write a song about my sister if that was the way she could hear the message or to simply see herself as she was behaving.
This is not in the wrong aspect ratio. It's in the 4:3 aspect ratio (well, 1.37:1 to be exact, known as Academy standard) that almost all American films used until wider formats were introduced in the '50s. When TV was introduced it adopted a very slightly narrower format (1.33:1) that was standard until the beginning of this century.
I suspect Cab enjoy his work.
Saw him live in Miami beach at the eden roc hotel in 1959,he was great
Way better than the censored version. Thank you.
that upright bass player is high af
lestrange 😂😂😂 had to be
They all were 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They’re just enjoying the moment
This was a COOL SMOOOOOOTH BROTHER!
I actually like this music for being a 37 yr old man who was born in the eighties and grew up in the ninteis
He is so happy it's unbelievable 😊
I remember using this as an object lesson: I was a band geek--and they told me you couldn't bend a note with a trumpet. I used a toilet plunger and my thumb.
A time before Rock n Roll. But this is great too
Just perfect song
amazing
everyone is so happy!
@dal4018 - You are RIGHT! There is another bowdlerised version on CZcams, like mine. But there is also ONE COMPLETE version. It's a bit fuzzy and the ratio is wrong (although if you download it and show it in 16:9, it should be right). And it is indeed on the co-ordinates you say (although the TWO consecutive underscores fooled me for a while!) In the public interest, I will now put the link in my info panel.
Thankyou!
Low and high, love
thank you so so much for this
They look so happy
milt hinton on bass and cozy cole on drums! man thats dope.
This song is 93 years young!
when u miss great sounds ... listen this!
This is the best filmed version of Minnie The Moocher, but all of the best parts have been edited out in this clip. It's a shame.
@lwmson Yes, it IS annoying - when I uploaded it, there was no other - then someone uploaded an unbowdlerised version - but it was FUZZY...
Now THIS man has swag
When you need to go old school, and all the way back to old school, before they built the building.
I love always this segment from Cuphead show with King Dice his singing and dancing
Too bad so much of the song is cut out.
I have to believe that some archive has the entire video stored in a vault somewhere. hehe
This is fantastic but really, really creepy. Liked.

"Kick the gong around"!
Gosto grande artista
Triple-O.G. Mr. Cab Calloway.
There's kind of a strange cut at 1:33. Does anyone else perceive it?
The bass player tho!!! 😂😂😂... Was this when coke was legal???
Hidy hidy hidy heeee
right he looks very happy!! but then id think more on weed.. coke doesnt really make me smile just pot @@GeneralSorrow
Nope. But honestly, has it being illegal ever stopped anyone from using it?
Cab Calloway sings about coke in many of his songs, including this one.. "She loved him, but he was cokey."
no, they where just excited to introduce them selvse the instruments, the singing. Thats why they where so happy
Top tune
I wanna know what that bass player was on
I love 30's
i am studying this song for my music lesson at school
