- if you want to ride your motorcycle all year long but are worried about the cold hands that typically come with winter motorcycle riding, then you need to take good, long look at Hippo Hands. These things look goofy as hell, but they are invaluable when it comes to keeping your hands warm while riding a motorcycle in cold weather.
Head over to www.hippohands.com/ for more info!
Hippo Hands come in 3 sizes:
Backcountry (small) 9” deep
Enduro, dirt bikes, dual sports, snow bikes, or anyone looking for minimalist coverage.
Rogue (medium) 10.5” deep
Commuter riders model of choice. Versatile and can work with a ton of bikes.
My favorite for going back and forth between dual sport and adv bikes.
Alcan (large) 12” deep
Max coverage designed for adv and sport touring bikes.
My overall Hippo Hands review is overwhelmingly positive. These things keep your hands warm and protected in even the coldest weather, making winter motorcycle riding much easier and more comfortable. They're not cheap and they look goofy but they do the job. There's no reason to put your motorcycle away for the winter. Just get a pair of these bad boys and enjoy riding in comfort all year long.

Just bought a pair based on this review! I want to be like Dork!
Thank you Ben, nice to know they ship to canada.
Probably THE best investment on an accessory I have ever bought. It was a game changer for fall/winter riding. I love mine.
Awesome! Great Video!!!
Just grabbed a pair of the Rogue covers, after years of waffling on them, thank you! You've covered or owned all of my bikes, and I've agreed with virtually everything you've said about them. Even test-drove a Transalp last week. Love your channel.
Great review Dork. Another aspect of these you didn't cover: these save your bike's (often limited) electrical power by greatly reducing the need for heated gear. Gloves, jacket, grips, seat, the Watts really add up fast and none but the biggest of baggers have the charging system to handle those loads.
Total game changer on winter riding comfort
I have them… several times I’ve wanted to put them on and didn’t cause of how they looked…. Regretted that decision every time lol
Used the Rogues on my trip to the Arctic Circle this year. Rained every day, temps ranged from 30’s to high 50’s. I wore summer gloves and my Raynaud afflicted hands never got wet or cold. Also, they make great little dry and warm cubbyholes to store your gloves while fueling up or popping into a store. They seemed goofy here in SoCal, but once I got into north Utah and beyond they weren’t so goofy. Also, completely kept the handlebar switches out of the elements. When I got home 8800 miles later the bike was a filthy disaster but the handlebar controls were still like new. Good stuff.
Finally, a message I can get behind. I ride my tenere 1200 year-round.
I think I'm gonna get some, I hate big gloves!
I don’t care how I look as long as I have warm and dry hands. That said, can you get them to make Hippo Feet? My toes will thank you. 😜👍👍
Yea I’ll just wait till April
I was hoping they gave you a discount code😢
I always want to look like the motorcycle pope...but warm is fun.
you can do both with these!
Thanks for the review! Too bad they didn't give you a discount code to share.
Seal skin with wolf lining makes excellent gloves for dry and warm hands. They work for driving canoes and dog sleds on hunts, too. It certainly triggers people. And summer gloves fit inside! It helps to have good friends in cold places.
I love my Hippo Hands! In the winter, with my heated grips on and my Hippo Hands, I still wear my Klim summer weight Mojave gloves, and my hands never get cold.
"Copacetic cocoon of comfortness", LOL! Only a former teacher could think to throw in an example of alliteration when reviewing motorcycle gear 😂
So true! CCC!
true-DORK🤓🤓
What would you recommend? Waterproof/winter gloves or hippo hands. I like to ride with light mechanic gloves. I have a trip that I will be definitely riding in rain and cooler temps at time. Trying to decide if I should by waterproof gloves or a set of hippo hands and just put them on when it rains.
So you can look like the Dork and be the motorcycle pope at the same time. What more could you ask for?
This guy gets it
Those look way better than the bread bags I been using.
I best order up a set.
Just put a set on my new bike. I'm still waiting for the heated grips and seats. But these things are a life saver in the meantime.
I have the older version, which worked. These are a definite improvement and I will be getting them.
I thought they looked Goofy too, until I saw you sporting them. Now they are down right Dorky! But in a good way of course.
I need these!
Hippo hands and heated grips weee the shizzle on Snowmobiles back in the day. I’m sure they are just as good on a bike.
Have a set for my Transalp that I will be installing as soon as the dealer figures out my heated grip issue. Now…Ben, let’s talk about those Aurora aux lights from Cyclops Adventure Sports that I spy 👀 😊
I was just getting ready to send you a message, Dork, on HHs vs heated gloves. I live in north Alabama, so it doesn't get super cold here, but I do enjoy riding year round. I think you've help me make a decision. I'll be getting a set of Rogue's for my GSA. Thanks for the great content! Cheers and happy new year!
Ben, Have you actually met the Motorcycle Pope...or are you him? Thanks for another great equipment review! (I can think of about 50 road trips when I do wish I would have used these - or at least heated grips... but neither had even been invented at those times in my riding career. It's truly a good time, now "in history," to be a motorcyclist!
Yet another excellent video from Pope Dork In The Road.
Would love a set of these, but I don't want to put handguards on my bike.
Nice old Benz in that clip near the end.
atlas freezer gloves like crabers where 15 bucks amzon, or barkbusters have those too look much better, enjoy new toy
Great timing, I need to replace my cheap version.
They worked great but the insulation started moving around getting lumpy in spots.
These work great!
Now if I could get my barkbusters magically installed, I could use these too. Way too much procrastination in my garage!
It sounds like the procrastination is in the house, not the garage. 😉
@@kenbowlus2995oh no. I can sit in the garage and stare for hours!
I realize it’s different for everyone’s tolerance level, but what temps are you generally comfortable wearing summer/normal gloves and using the hippo hands?
A heated version of these seems like a good idea. They could hook into the battery tender plug and then zip tie the cables leading to the handle bars. Heated grips are such a pain to install.
I have ridden down to the upper 20's with lightweight summer gloves.
Dork Approved....can't wait to get my hands on them.....wait....hand in them! 😁😁
Been looking at getting a set for the Harley (cause if they look dumb on an ADV bike imagine how they'll look on a Harley 😂) and they recommend the Memphis Shades guards which are the flag style, from your experience so you feel like they will stay put well enough without being able to use the Velcro strap at street riding and freeway speeds?
Just upgraded to Barkbuster BBZ (Blizzards), as my old hands are no longer able to ignore that 0c cold, even with Heated grips AND Gerbing gloves. The Hippo's just seem too much, for me.
I have Blizzards on my Tiger 660 and I like them a lot. I also have generic Hippo Hands on my my R1100GS and they work a LOT better when you start going down in the 6-18F range (-3-9C).
Props to the hippo hands I got a set and I transferred them back and forth from my 500x to my dl1000 they definitely extended my riding season if anyone's on the fence go for it it's worth it .Looking forward to trying them out on the transalp.. if there was just a way I could figure out how to get them on the FJR then I would really have have it going on ..Who cares what they look like having your hands down in those wind blocks makes a huge difference the only thing that drove me nuts was I couldn't stand them hitting my thumbs thumbs while gripping the bars I managed to improvise with the provided foam blocks that came with the kit.. anyone willing to share a keg got to be coming from a good place!
These look like they work well but I'm still looking for the magic glove. Heated or winter gloves that don't feel like ski gloves. Any suggestions? Prefer self powered for heated gloves.
The magic glove is whatever summer glove you like in combination with heated grips and these things. Otherwise you're going to have bulky insulation no matter what.
Look at Snowmobile gloves. For the $120-$180, you can get some really nice snowmobile gloves that wear well and aren't bulky. My FXR's are 250 weight Thinsulate, been using them for over five years, seams are still waterproof, HiPOR, Thinsulate Cordura. Even has left index finger squeegee. Snowmobile gloves are much cheaper than Motorcycle winter gloves. They also have sizes up to 4XL. Mine are still running for $95 USD
So Hippo Hands are Dorky eh ?
When it's cold & rainy you can crawl inside, silly, they call 'em cages....
Salt all
Over the roads up here in Canada makes it a pain to ride. Then you’re constantly washing the bike and not really fun 🤔
Get a dedicated winter bike and just wash it before putting it away for summer. I ride year round in the Chicagoland area and is notorious for the same adiction to Sodium Chloride.
Their site does not list a dealer in Canada.
