Could someone explain this for me? Some people are conditioned so they can't say the word Patriots so they say La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo instead? I really don't understand. I don't mean any disrespect but as much as I love Metal Gear Solid 1-4 I never really thought the whole Philosophers and later Patriots sub-plot was necessary. It seems to me to be like what Alfred Hitchcock liked to call a McGuffin, a plot device, something that motivates the characters but isn't really important. I hope that you won't be upset by my comments but I'd like to hear your point of view on the subject 🤔🙂

@@alexdeghost2729at that "age," Snake looked different. But placing one half of Snake and Solidus's models each side by side shows us that he WAS identical to Solidus. Solidus is the "perfect clone" of Big Boss, so with enough inference, you can assume Snake did look exactly like Big Boss at some point in his life. It wasn't until Snake was much more aged that he started to actually look half Japanese.

@@PosthumanHeresy He *retired* to Alaska. We actually don't have a great idea about his upbringing as a child and where he lived. He joined the military though as a young man and was in active service for many years BEFORE retiring to Alaska. And I don't know if you've ever served or not but soldiers who are enlisted for many years (even if not career military) aren't unaware of the world around them. The military is not a cave. It gets news and internet and plenty of information.

Big Boss's file wasn't declassified until 2013, four years after Solidus had died. The general public had no idea Big Boss even existed until then. It is interesting to think if anyone made a connection between Solidus and Big Boss after the declassification. Depends on whether photos of Big Boss were made publically available.
The files the US had on him and the missions he undertook for them was declassified at that time (ie MGS3 and all those later games they made). But he was still a terrorist out there openly leading a rogue nation for a timer period.
Big Boss was widely known to the public as a legendary soldier/mercenary/terrorist in the MG universe. The declassification of the ''''official'''' CIA files just revealed to people that he was originally a US operative who saved the world from nuclear war. It's why it's stated in MGS4 that the public look back on him more favorably after the declassification.

Honestly i think the reason Solid and Liquid didn't recognize Solidus comes down to the Eyepatch. Its like how Dr Doofenschmidt can't recognize Perry the Platypus without his signature hat.
Solid knew who he was. He just didn't care. When they meet in MGS2, they both imply to each other that they have some degree of familiarity with one another. All Snake gives him is "you're no brother of mine," presumably because he was already sick of Liquid calling him that.

I appreciate this animation as someone who always wondered about Solidus' life before the events of MGS1/MGS2
This is perfectly in line with the lore of Metal Gear.
The likehood of election going up right after "I could be the nice...Big Boss..." cracked me up big time.
Man was going through accelerated aging. Big Shell happened in 2009 when he looked exactly like Big Boss.
Shadow Moses was in 2005 and let’s say he was mid-way through his presidency and started in 2002-03. He probably looked younger and resembled BB much less. Did he still have a beard like BB did? His mullet?
For reference, Solid Snake aged rapidly within the final year of his life and looked significantly different physically.
It’s not a leap to imagine that Solidus styled himself and was aged less than his predecessor during even his time in smaller political roles.
Shame solidus doesn’t play a bigger role in the overarching story. He was my favorite villain by far.
Had Mr. President known of the treachery of Senator Amstrong, the events of MGS2 would have never needed to happen and he'd succeed where President Funny Valentine failed: uplift the country.

Safe to say Solidus's public image as George Sears was carefully crafted to not resemble Big Boss. That would include his physical appearance - a clean shave and a more conservative haircut might have been just enough... Whenever drawings of George Sears appear in cutscenes he doesn't even look like any of the Snakes. Solidus must have adopted the Big Boss inspired look only after his presidency was over and his crusade against the Patriots began.
