    My first game of TI4 (that wasn't the Tutorial) I played Ghosts because I thought they were such a neat concept. Now I was playing against a bunch of other newer players too, but I found the Ghosts so fun and crushed the game. I was able to strategically ally with anyone at the table against the leader because I could basically attack anywhere at any time and once I became the leader it was easy to defend my key locations across the board. There is a boat load of strategy behind playing these guys and deciding where exactly to commit your resources, but the flexibility of that basically being anywhere on the table keeps them as my favorite race to this day.

    I had my first game on Saturday. Before we were watching some videos on yt and read the rules to be prepared. All could choose factions but I was late, so they decided to assign a faction to me, they thought it would most fit me in terms of the picture and the story on the backside. My friends gave me the Ghosts of Creuss. I totaly wormholed the shit out of them and won after about 10-11 hours of gameplay. Well, and we ordered some awesome greek food.

    Just played a game where the Creuss player had 2 PDS on their home world with that unit upgrade and plasma scoring. Would move Flagship + fleet into combat and just blast 5 dice through the flagship wormhole before combat even began. Add to this the ability to assign an additional hit anywhere and half the opposing fleet just disappeared!

    • @RulebreakerBoardgames
      @RulebreakerBoardgames  Před 4 lety +7

      Yeah? That sounds bonkers. I am starting to think the PDS in general is a really powerful piece.

    • @ruthenianthruth
      @ruthenianthruth Před 4 lety +1

      But what i possibly thought is that you can also have a system with 2 planets and 4 pds. You put 1 WH there. PDS II of course. And you shout with 7 (!!!) sco if you attack a system with wh or get attacked in such system.

    • @dressydressy6246

    I'm keen to try them with the commander now that the expansion is out. Plus their hero ability solves the issue caused when you don't have a worm-hole in hand during Set-up. All in all a huge quality of life upgrade.

    1: The ghosts start with gravity Drive mostly for lore and with slipstream you can make that carrier 1 regular 2beacuse ofslipstream and 3 beacuse of gravity Drive so it really makes any ship out of the home world move 2+

      Thanks Bryn. Not sure I win enough of my games to be giving people detailed strategy advice but I will consider it in the future for sure. A game like TI where so much is different from game to game would make those types of video tough too. A game against Nekro Virus is very different to a game against Xxcha or Hacan, with different approaches for all play styles and factions. But never say never. I'll think about it!

    Ghosts are my biggest love. This feeling of total freedom they give is a real drug. Btw I win with them quite often. They depend on ressources and Technology heavily. Thus in 6 players game, Ghosts are a real challenge to start with. But in 4 players game they are unresistable :) Just imagine - you can possibly totaly destroy a player by inviding his HS at any moment. If Ghosts are on the board everyone should to whatch out!!!

      @@RulebreakerBoardgames And Wormhole Generator works this way that you put a wormhole under your main fleet (with your flagship). So that next year everybody has +1 movement, you can sneak through any other holes and you can get supply from your HS.

    I loved the quote, regarding the use of Direct Hit cards in conjunction with the Ghosts' Dimensional Splicer tech, "bit of a dick move...but it's a lot of fun." Lol The one game I played that involved them, the guy who played them, owned the set and really agitated for a preset map, instead of building the galaxy. No one really wanted to argue, but in retrospect that pre-set map gave him rally well positioned wormholes all over the map. Speaking of "dick moves".

    Having a homeworld that can’t really be attacked is hugely beneficial in the mid-game. Hilariously, even though the Creuss need home system PDS the least of all non-Saar races, most savvy players build the upgraded PDS just so they have effectively two space cannon dice permanently in range of the Flagship.

  • @hansvanberkel1232
    @hansvanberkel1232 Před 4 lety +21

    You forgot the issue with the flagship and lightwave deflector. Once 1 other player has that tech your flagship is a huge risk to be on the board.

      @dressydressy6246 Před 4 lety +4

      I agree it’s an issue. But there are ways around it. 1) don’t place your flagship near them 2) ensure your HS is defended 3) ceasefire trades 4) SOT trades 5) PDII network. Even if you do lose it, and depending on CC’s, your flagship can warped straight back there from wherever it is, bringing whatever with it.

  • @duskysquirrelfish3583
    @duskysquirrelfish3583 Před 3 lety +9

    Pretty sure Direct Hit could not be used that way - it says "a hit produced by your units". The Dimensional Splicer is not a unit.

    Truthfully I go for mecatol Rex as Creuss cause they are so quick they get an extra move if they start in a D wormhole so they can move 3 so turn 2/3 they get to mecatol rex

    • @UnreasonableOpinions
      @UnreasonableOpinions Před rokem

      If you find a Hacan player who doesn’t understand how valuable it is to you, you can take Trade and swap with them and then pay them a full-on Support for the Throne to take your IFF and drop it on Mecatol Rex so you end up there turn one. You’ll lose it fast because the whole board will be angry for the stunt, but it’s worth it.

    Can you better explain, what means that second sentence on the flagship card-that with movement?

    • @bass1805
      @bass1805 Před 4 lety +4

      If the flagship moves into the active system 1st, a player can then move the fleet in the home system into the active system using the newly-located Delta wormhole. If the flagship moves last, it will most often be in a retreat situation. This allows the rest of the fleet in the flagship's system to retreat back home with the flagship following behind. Without this provision, there would be much in-game disagreement/arguing about where the Delta wormhole exists at any given moment.

    Here's a tip for the new players : the flagship mentions that you can move it before or after your other ships. It means you can use it both to move THEN move your ships on delta wormholes to it, OR move your ships THROUGH the wormhole in the system with the flagship, then the flagship itself. I find this mecanic broken, to me this race needs its flagship to play fully in their strategy it's a massive attack from nowhere, or a retreat no one can follow

  • @psmylife6832

    Wondering why you think using Direct Hit after damaging their flagship is a 'dick move' as you put it. It seems like a good tactical and strategic play to me. Why would anyone think this is a 'dick move' in a game that is as much a war game as well as having other elements to it?

    • @brianlelas172
