It seems that his sons are continuing his legacy and haven’t forgotten about the incredible career that their father enjoyed. Dan Blocker sadly passed away at the age of 43 and was at the height of his career. Nevertheless, in this short time, he made his living as a working actor and brought us Hoss Cartwright - one of American television’s most beloved characters.
Dan Blocker grew up in Texas and studied drama at university. He helped pay for his studies by working in a rodeo and as a bouncer. He soon developed a reputation for being a “lovable giant” and his charming personality would help him win over acting roles.
He took a risk by leaving the comfort zone of Texas for the ruthless entertainment business in Los Angeles. But from the late 1950s, he managed to carve a successful career in television. He found many bit parts in popular TV shows - showing particular interest in Westerns. It’s no surprise that he’d be cast as a lead character in one of the most popular Westerns of all time.
His talents were also passed on to his children. Two of his sons, David and Dirk have followed in his footsteps and have successful careers in show business. David has focused mainly on producing and has succeeded in producing some of the most popular feature films and TV shows. He’s also behind the production of two of the best TV movies of the 1990s.
Dirk Blocker has also become a successful TV actor - beginning his career in his teens. After seeing his father on set, he knew that he had to pursue a career in acting as well.
But how do the Blocker sons see their father’s legacy and how is Dan Blocker seen today by audiences?

I watched Dan Blocker on Bonanza and son Dirk on.Blacksheep Squardron . When I had my own kids they enjoyed them,on their. shows sharing their talents and Dan s gentle giant loveability . I was 9 yrs old when Dan passed . He was my favorite Cartwright .
I always loved Hoss, and wanted to find a guy like him. Never got so lucky

Dan Blocker seemed to have a beautiful countenance and smile, also when his 🎬 acting called for serious no nonsense conflict, I remember he was a one man cavalry to the rescue and sorted things out, that's my couch view....
I remember watching the series when it originally aired with my grandfather and grandmother when I was very young.. I did not know that he passed away at a very young age
I liked all the ones on Bonanza but, Dan Blocker was my top Actor on that series. He was very talented, was likeable, and he had a slightly comic side to his role at times. Dan Blocker was my Dad's favorite. My Dad wrestled throughout High School and had a muscular build similar to Dan Blocker. I think is one reason Dan was a favorite of my Dad.
Dan's Son Dirk looks very much like his Dad.
May Dan rest in peace. To bad he died young who knows how his acting career would have continued to be successful.

How well I remember the moment I heard that Dan had died. I was struck dumb. It was one of those "you'll always remember where you were when you heard" times. I naturally thought, but how could he have died--he was so young! Though I have to admit that Bonanza was on its last legs, just limping along, when Hoss/Dan died that was really the end of it. The great, warm, beating heart of Bonanza was no more.
Lived his, prayers to all your family and especially your sons...🙏🙏🙏🙏

I was born in 1952 an watched Bonanza through its entire run. Dan Blocker was and will always remain one of my favorite actors of all time. He was one of the greatest and most genuine actors of all time

People come and go but hoss will always be remembered as a kind giant and that smile live with you for the rest of your life remember growing up watching bonanza and 50 years later still have all the memories of the good genuine people.

I still watch reruns of Bonanza today. One of my all time favourite shows. I was disappointed in this video that the two daughters of Dan Blocker were not brought to light in where their life is today and earlier in life, whether they were house wives or in the industry does not matter. Would have just like to have heard more about them.

My all time favorite episode of Bonanza is the one where he finds what he thought were Leprechauns and him and little Joe try to catch them and they climb Hoss like he is Tree. I still laugh everytime I see that episode! The very first time I saw his son Dirk I thought he was Dan until my Mom told me that it was his son.
I watched Bonanza with my dad as a kid, and I still watch it today! All the girls including my step mother all had the hots for little Joe and Adam, but me, well I always loved Hoss more, he had a kind sweet generous heart, and I would get mad at 5he girls on the show for breaking Hoss's heart!

Loved loved loved Dan Blocker as Hoss. Although I have to admit, I saw some out takes from Bonanza where Hoss uttered a word that to me is the most offensive word you can use describing a woman's private parts! 🤮 Every time I watched reruns with Hoss I thought about that out take. Kind of burst my bubble about him being a sweet, proper gentleman. Oh well, I still love him as Hoss. Never new he had such an extensive background. If he had lived, he'd look just like Dirk. Same teeth and everything. Good stuff today on Facts Verse.
