I have actually gotten them out of the box like this. It’s not fun when you spend days diagnosing and ignoring the plugs bc “I just put brand new ones in, they must be fine”😂
I guess it's because I'm old and back then all spark plugs had to be properly gapped even when brand new and right out of the box. So I can't imagine getting a set of brand new plugs and not checking the gap.
Also, always check the depth of the plug vs the oem one. Don’t rely on the auto parts store to sell you the right one. I seen it whe the piston hits the plug and closed the gap
One of the guys at my shop got a new long block, drove it around the block and it had misfires, swapped coils then notice the plug was smashed in. From factory.
Lmao im a you tube mechanic of 1+ year and i support this message. I too also dropped mind saving it from hitting ground after 5 back to back fumbles 😂
I need to check my gaps. I had a misfire in literally all 8 cylinders so I replaced the plugs and wiring. Now it’s misfiring in cyl 2, 4, 6. I know i have it wired right though. And when I installed all the plugs I made sure the gap looked decent but I didn’t actually measure
I just changed mine and I am getting misfires now. I did not drop my plugs and double checked all of them for gap specs. The problem I have is that they are cheap plugs. Go with your OEM plugs for your vehicle
Check gaps. I didn’t check mine and ended up spending over a thousand dollars chasing the misfire then I learned about gaps and replaced and checked them and boom no more misfire. Those plugs lasted 400 miles. You live and you learn tho
if the plug is misfiring why the mechanic will release the car after the tune-up. always road-test the vehicle after all work is done !! minimizes the comeback
😂😂😂 customers make me laugh. Had one on a 2009 rdx turbo. Guy had a P2263. Well he replaced the turbo (didn't have to) and problem kept occurring. Well I look at it and find the wastegate fully adjusted open 😂 and his sensor for his boost was soft set and making it mad 😂 I want customers to learn about their cars but if you need help diag something bring it to a pro and don't waste money that's what I'm trying to help you do. I would have told him he just needs the eyelet for the adjustment for the wastegate not a whole turbo. However I don't know another Acura dealer that will just replace that because Honda tells you it needs a turbo
Probably dropped them into the engine and whacked the seat. I usually put them in with a magnet and begin them that way so they don’t cross thread. And lol of course check the gap
I've seen it out of the box like that. Always check before leaving the parts store. And always check the gap, especially with iridium plugs, if you have to bend them far, they usually break.
I replaced plugs in my jeep wrangler years ago, they didn't have champions in stock but substituted AC delcos, after a couple weeks it developed a misfire, initially i thought it was a fuel injector, wasn't it. pulled the plugs and the AC delcos porcelain had reddish insulators, got Champions and no more misfires

I had a spark plug that was broken internally at the resistor. Holding the spark plug upright and looking at the gap, it was fine. Inverting the spark plug, as when it's installed, the center electrode slides down and contacts the ground strap. Pull the spark plug back out and look at it, it's fine. Nice gap. I just happen to be looking when I inverted the plug and saw the electrode slide. It had separated at the resistor.
Drop it toss it … a hairline crack that the eye can’t see will cause tracking down the boot if not today maybe next week or next month but it’ll happen
Gotta give him credit for getting OEM.
That gap definitely wasn't OEM lol
You can get OEM straight from the manufacturer without paying OEM prices.

I don't care if they say they they're pre-gapped. You always check the gap on plugs before I put them in
I trust pre-gapped spark plugs about as much as I trust flushable wipes.
That's a helluva drop 😂😂😂
Right lol no way you dropping that and bending it and not chipping/ braking the ceramic like dudes high
If it was dropped,
I'd check the porcelain for cracks also 👍

As a mechanic you can never be too careful.. not only check the gap but use a multi-meter to verify they are good..
The gap bro wtf shit closed
I guess you dnt need a Gap now and days
I always gap before install, it takes a few seconds a plug, and you never know what yahoo has been handling them.
I have actually gotten them out of the box like this. It’s not fun when you spend days diagnosing and ignoring the plugs bc “I just put brand new ones in, they must be fine”😂
If that took you days to diagnose then you are in the wrong business my friend.
Always check the last thing you did
Or gap them before you put them in. 5 seconds could have saved you days.
Plugs have to be recalibrated before installation
Most spark plugs are pregapped
Use a piece of rubber hose to gently lower your sparkplug into the hole and thread it in.
Or hear me out just use your coils I stick my plugs in my coil pack screw it a turn pull the coil pack back off and tighten with wrench
Gap them when you take them out of the package, then re-check the gap right before you install each plug.
Same for me…the mechanic effed it up big time. I learn to do it myself.
Gonna need a new coil pack now
Another thing to always check is the wire side of the plug. The contact on the end is threaded and if its not tight it can cause a miss too.
Dont lie. You did this and playing it off. 😂
Thanks for the info!!
Every shed should have a spark plug gap coin
Most don’t need gap adjustment anyway
They come out the box like this often. A gap gauge is cheap and well worth it
Yep i aleays check gap
I ALWAYS check the gap with machine shims before going in
The OE gap is .024 , and the electrode is quite projected. Those need extra love.
Buying the most expensive OEM parts is mostly the best solution to the problems .

That must have been a hard drop to get the gap that tight

Love them "pre-gapped" plugs!
JC, this is why I take my Volvo to a certified shop.
Also cover that opening so you don’t drop a 10mm socket down it
Love your Volvo channel, keep up with the great connect📼📽️🎥
Thank you oscar
I learned that in the 60's. LMAO
Don't ever expect them to be gapped correctly as well of course!
I thought when the electrode is like this, the spark will travel down to the ceramic part yet still fire…common issues with early Sequoias
Always get the gap size and check each one you never know if they were dropped by whoever handled them before they got sold
why would you say "he must have dropped it", could have been anyone from the factory to the seller.
I have taking them out of the box like this, always check the new plugs before installing.

Always check the gap before you put them in to cause they get threw around on shipping and stocking. Pre set doesn't mean they are correct
