Clicked on this because I love John Darnielle, but I lost my SHIT when I heard Protomartyr. Great band, great song. Probably one of the best active post-punk bands of this decade, if not the best.

The BREEDERS were actually overall a better band than the PIXIES.
I've heard the is hot take before. To me it's like saying Thunderclap Newman is superior to The Who. I respect the uniqueness of this opinion, yet that'd be a steep hill to climb defending that position.
Not really- I went to college in Boston in the late '80s/early '90s and saw both bands a number of times. PIXIES have become a way, way overrated cult phenom'.
