Best video! Clear and concise with no complaining!
Great video. No need to crank the car up to test the light.
Thanks a lot!!
Made 150 bucks in 30 minutes become of this video!
Excellent video! I did my parents' '09 last night. Two hours start to finish; removal, resolder the board, reassemble.
My brake light works sometimes and sometimes does not. I assume it is a short / break. When you say resolder the board is there a video of this?
@@aaronsadventures7739 You may be able to find something, but it’s essentially just finding all of the solder joints on the board (there aren’t many) and just heating them with the soldering iron until they melt, allowing the solder to “reflow.” You don’t need to add or remove any solder. Just refreshing the connection.
@@Lenny5160 I see so many people that had a problem it was clearly a quality control issue and because it is required by law it should be a recall / TSB
By the way if your rear curtain is stuck up due to that common worn out gear issue, just put the fuse back in and have someone press the button, then while it makes the famous grind noise, push the two arms on the side into each other and once they meet each other gently push down on the top rod. You may have to redo this numerous times before it's fully retracted
Outstanding video! Very well done - - thank you for taking the time!
Thank you for making the video show me step by step you guys very good keep up the good work
Great video man. Will use this soon because I need to do mine.
Great video! It really helped me out. Thank you!
whoever thought of making it this complicated just to get to the lights needs to be slapped
Like for real dude... they knew it would have to be changed...
I failed my Inspection because the third brake light wasn’t working. I didn’t know I had to go through all this BS just to change it….😖
Replacing the low-beam driver-side headlight is also DIFFICULT on the '08 Avalon. I paid a mechanic a small fortune to replace both headlights and the third brake light. This necessary labor shown in this video braced me somewhat for the resulting cost. Side note: a working third high-mounted center brake light was not required in the state of Texas to pass inspection until 2017. (and now it's announced the state will discontinue vehicle inspections in 2025). I first had to make a personal decision whether I wanted my daughter to drive this '08 Avalon the next year without a functional third brake light, and then maybe wait and see if they would really flunk the car on the next (and final) inspection in 2024. The answer for this dad was "pay the man."
Dang bro, the car looks brand new!
Just redid the cold solder joints on the one in my 06. No need to replace
Thank you so much,.I followed the information and save money, save time.
Best video on CZcams.
Thank you so much for this video.. it helped me tremendously..
Thanks!
I wish you would have also included changing out the subwoofer.. I have a double whammy! (3rd brake light and a bad subwoofer!)
Thanks for making a good and detailed video!! :-)
Very detailed. Thank you Brother ❤
Great video thank you
Damn u have to dismantle the whole damn car to get to that damn light!!! Crazy!!!
You don't need to take out the seat but it does make it easier to manage everything
was it just a matter of removal of headrest, c panel cover then the cowl?
@@MahendraSingh-rp6er I removed the head rests, upper side panels (those are the hardest to do, watch a video on it as you could break them), then popped up the cowl. The cowl is also difficult and you must make sure the shade is down or it's not going anywhere. If your shade has that common buzz issue where the gear is stripped, you'll have to have someone press the button as you gently push it down. Might have to do it numerous times but I got mine down this way. Once down, I'd remove the fuse to it so you don't risk it popping up again haha
Then it's just a matter of popping all the clips to the cowl and it'll eventually let you pull it slowly towards you. Then just lift it over the seats until you can flip it over (flip the part that meets the glass with the shade slot in it towards the front window)
The seat belts will get in the way but, it's not terrible
Also the part that holds the brake light in, is super fragile and will likely snap making it hard to install the new one... So be gentle when trying to get the old one out as well as installing the new one
Worst design I've ever dealt with..
@@JamesAutoDude thank you so much for your reply, i am doing this tomorrow, doesn't sound too terrible but as long there's somewhat of a guide thanks!
@@MahendraSingh-rp6er I hear ya. Just take it slow. Google and Google more until you're comfortable. Also I heard hitting the airbag symbol on the c panels makes it easier to take them off at first, can't confirm though
And make sure you're careful with the clips on the c panels as they easily come out when you try to remove them. I also had to kinda bend the c panel closest to the rear window as they got stuck when trying to remove and reinstall. It's a bit of a PITA but with patience and time, you should get it done
This is totally a poor design just to change a freaking 3rd brake light!!! Why did Toyota have to make this so freaking difficult!!! Ridiculous!!
Thanks for the video! I replaced it today and I was able to do it without removing the seat and the backrests.
How???
@@Mz.IJDGAF Take off the rear side covers and then pop up the rear tray cover. Then disconnect the plug on the driver's side that goes to the third brake light. (I used a screwdriver to press it it.) Start with the rear seats upright to access the rear deck panel, but then fully recline the seat backs and you can slide the rear tray cover off/down sand flip it over and rest it on the rear seat. I actually went back today to fix the distorted sub woofer and I had to glue the third brake light bc the plastic retainers are so brittle. (I bought some new plastic clips on Amazon too.)
Wow great job 👏 what I see in this video is a big mess I wouldn’t be able to do that you should of make a video maybe your way was much easier
Great video!
Thanks for the video
Great video. Thanks. If the windshield brake light is not working would that cause the brake dash warning light to come on, along with the VSC, Abs lights?
Thank you
Omg I’m a woman I can’t deal with that I would have to take it somewhere like the dealership that’s a big mess 😜knowing me I break everything 🤣 that will cost a pretty penny I would need a garage which I live in a apartment now I see why is going to cost to do this in the dealership that’s crazy to go thru all that just to change the light 🥴🥴🥴🥴 but this video Is very helpful thank you for sharing 😊😬👌
Another guy is testing my patience 🐢 🐢
My third break light just went out on my 06 Avalon. I have to replace the whole assembly ? Or does it have bulbs I can just replace ?
It sell only the whole assembly
bà chi toi cung co mot chiec cung doi nhu vay ,bao nhieu ngan miles thi moi thay ,sao thay no rac roi qua
Great Video! Awful design from Toyota though
did you replace bulbs or NEW display?
Whole light assembly
@@ponyotran2996 Thanks. Looking for brake light housing for old car . Had no idea about the LED. Bet that up!!
Why would you place that 3rd brake light like this? Where is recall? İs it easy to fix a toyota? NAH!
