As someone who knows nothing about sheering animals, I can understand how people would ask “why don’t you stop if they don’t like it?” Or “isn’t that hurting them?” I’m glad you point out how you can’t let them boss you around and know you have to work to earn trust at the same time. As well as pointing out practices to avoid them getting hurt debunks the fact it’s not always easy but like the dentist visits, it’s not always fun but it’s necessary.

Thank you for explaining how you “read” what the animals are thinking, and work in a way that calms their nerves, rather than confronting then and making them even more frightened. It appears the Standing Up position works well for shearing rookies; the critters that lay down for the process must be more familiar with haircuts.

How lovely you work as a team to do your important work. I remember the Shearer coming to the farm to shear the flock. It was hard to watch the ewes I loved handled so harshly pushed around and ultimately dominated and fearful. Most had bloody cuts and sometimes burns from overheated clippers. I am so pleased to hear you share about building trust with the animals proving kindness matters. I am new to your channel and will certainly be a regular viewer.

Love the addition of breed history and animal behavior. And especially love seeing the rescue animals getting much needed care (although, of course, it would be nice if they didn't have to be rescued in the first place). That freak out was scary but you seemed so calm!

Thank you for your patience and kindness to llamas. I've worked with handled/untamed llamas and horses for years. I appreciate how you balance allowance for movement and let them rebalance for calm. Llamas are so loyal when they trust you.

I will never not love watching you guys work. Understanding and constantly watching their behaviour and earning that trust all while doing a damn good shear! And we both know next time they still won't enjoy it but will handle it so much better.
And nothing wrong with needing a lie down part way. It's exhausting looking so good

Thank you, for explaining so well about the halter, when the lamas get scared and drop. My first worry was choking them. But nope. :) And it's cool that you keep going. I wonder how many other animals would do better 'working through the fear' dogs, cats, etc.

You are so fantastic! I have followed you for a while and I'm so happy and impressed how good you are with nervous and skittish animals. You give them calm and structure with something they don't always understand. Another video creator, Ima Survivor and Donkey Sanctuary, Lester Morrow's place, tries every year to shear their alpackas, and every year it's a three ring circus - a kind and respectful one - where the two grown alpackas always come away with hilarious haircuts! This year their little girl Indie will have her first cut, and they are terrified what her mom Annie will do to protect her, she's a formidable mom who controls not only their little flock but the rest of the place too. She was just as nervous around her belly when she carried Indie as Lira was, and they carry their kids for years! Ernie, dad, seem calmer than Annie, but he can spit almost as good as her! I wonder what crazy haircuts they will get this year! 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵
