Artful scaling in MKII Japanese version was totally new for me!!

  • @HipsterBlackMetalOfficial
    @HipsterBlackMetalOfficial Před 6 lety +21

    1. Artful scaling is treating the game like SNK style games. Something like The Art of Fighting and Samurai Shodown. 2. MK3 for Sega master system is exactly the same except the resolution is zoomed out. Tec Toy Brazil literally converts Sega Game Gear games and polishes them up for the Master System market. Master System is still very popular in Brazil.

I have Shaolin Monks for both PS2 & Xbox (PAL) Both versions feature the *Kontent menu & have the Mortal Kombat II option there to be seen. Though the PS2 version will not start at all.. Not even if i use cheats to activate it from the main menu. The sound will trigger letting me know the cheat was activated, but no dice. Game will not start.
The Xbox version on the other hand, not only has a fully working version of MK2, but if you have a modified console with a file explorer, you can rip the single file that contained it straight to your HDD & play it from there, no Shaolin Monks disc needed. When this is done, there is no main menu to be paused to , so the Smoke secret & random select work.

Fun Fact: That Artful Scaling in MKII on both Saturn and PlayStation 1 (In Japan), is probably a 2D experimental phase (though it's a nice feature), that perhaps led to the later development of Mortal Kombat 4 where there used the exact same scaling when it transitioned from 2D to 3D at the time, and used mostly for that reason until they brought it back in the reboots, this time in a 2.5D format.

    - MK1 for DOS was kinda different as it had different publishers for Europe and USA (UltraTech and Virgin) and the versions kinda differ (cloakedthargoid.wordpress.com/mk1-dos-versions/)
    - PAL versions of MK2 (SNES), MK2 (Saturn) and UMK3 (saturn) had a completely broken gravity system.
    - MKSM in Germany cut the fatalities in MKSM (you only get a black screen)
    - There is a very rare Brazilian build for MK2 for PS1, which had some text translated (could be find at hiddenplace)

Well i don't think it's true because we have games like Persona or Yakuza in english only, or Symphony of the Night...
When they have to cut something it's generally an issue about licensing, they're not gonna bother remove a bonus game only because it's in english when in the other hand we have the arcade games in Tekken 5 (for instance) in english.

    Awesome video, tabmok99.
I might be wrong on this, but wasn't there also Mortal Kombat 1 & Mortal Kombat II for Sega Master System in Europe?
It sucks that we didn't get PlayStation Mortal Kombat II here in the USA.
It would've been a slam dunk sales wise & I would've definitely wanted it in my collection along with the rest of the PlayStation Mortal Kombat games.

There definitely was a Master System version of MK1, as I played it at summer camp when I lived in the UK. Not sure about MKII, but both were on the UK Amiga, as I had them and their big ol' boxes and multiple disks :D

Mortal kombat 9 never came out in Australia, we didn't have a 18+ rating for video games... it came out a few years later tho. you could have added that in to your video bro. I had to get mine from the UK and then make a UK PS3 account to get the DLC, plus buy UK PS3 credit from eBay, it was shit.

"Brazilian MK3" must be a bootleg. Brazil and Peru were famous for making bootlegs for the SNES, NES, Genesis, Master System and PS1.

That's what I would have thought too, but it's legit! The port was handled by Tec Toy, who also did the Sega Master System ports of MK1 and MKII.

Yup! You'd be surprised with the vast amount of brazillian exclusives Tec Toy released. They had a bunch of games based on brazillian IPs, and even a version of Duke Nukem 3D for the Genesis. There were also Master System versions of Mortal Kombat I and II, but I don't know if these were exclusive.

TecToy basically took the Game Gear version and tweaked it to make the Master System version. They did that with a lot of games, actually, since the systems are pretty much identical hardware.
