Slippy that would be cool not gonna lie
I sometimes breathe heavier or breathe lesser on intense situations, I somehow think I tunnel vision because of it.
2pongz I personally lightly bite my Tongue a lot while gaming or in intense situations I know this isn’t breathing but it’s something I do

I bought your guide TAO CS way back when I first started scrimming in 1.6. Years later while I'm in the peak of my competitive phase my team played vs you in a pug with other CSS pros. We won the best of three very fun games before looking up your steam IDs and discovering your identities. I must say that bo3 was one of the best moments of my gaming life. You're the GOAT and I remember the old days vividly.
Glad to see you making videos to help others to this day, moreso for this topic that younger gamers seriously need to consider. I wish I'd seen this video when I was younger.
Hey Ron, I just found your channel. You were one of my idols growing up man back in the prime 1.6 days. I followed you and team3D for years and always looked up to you. Im so glad to have reconnected with you and I dont play cs anymore but Im playig FPS again. Wish you the best.
I love your videos. I competetively play fighters, not FPS games, but your tips on mentality and physical consistency while playing have helped me grow a lot
I'm happy to hear that. Thank you :)

This information is so valuable and I'm so thankful for it! I'm 31 years old and I wish that I would have taken my posture and positioning more serious when I was younger putting in the long hours. no doubt ur content so special. no one talk about sit position.

If you are still interested in knowing why rapha plays that way, its party due to small spaces in lan. But he said he stuck with that style bcus (not his exact words) it puts less pressure on his wrist or smth.
I am recently starting to play this way as well and its much more easier to maintain a decent posture bcus u can just lay back and chill.
You're an absolute legend Ron. Thank you.
Maybe the next video can be about the different type of grip styles and their advantages? based on what i've heard, fingertip allows more freedom and precision at the cost of fatigue, and palm allows a relaxed form but with less manoeuvrability.
Boi if I sit that close to my monitor. My mom would kill me.

Hey Rambo, for a follow up video could you do one about chair height and table height? Personally when my seat is too high I lose accuracy and when it's too low I can't do large and micro movements. Keep up the good work.

Mine definitely became the forward leaning position, I used to do the same leaning back playing for so long, but then sat straight up and improved on my gaming, but now it's forward leaning and most of my forearm on the table, also started tilting my keyboard because it isn't a tenkeyless, but just ordered a tenkeyless so I don't gotta tilt it anymore, so hopefully I can see myself improve even more without ruining my wrist with that tilted keyboard
jdm always makes me lol. my dad and I loved quake and I tried raphas sitting style and I love it, been using it for 5 years :)
Thanks for speaking the cold hard truth about Quake. It is PURE SKILL.
Individual play style is a big factor for how different players sit. Like if I’m playing super aggressive with a sub against some tryhards in a competitive match on BO4, I’ll be sitting up straight to be ready for anybody I run into. Whereas if I was quickscoping, sitting back helps me maintain composure and not tense up because most of the time you need to hit nearly every shot on the first attempt or you’re dead. That’s just my experience though
A few years ago, I decided to correct my posture and it wasn't easy, I started to play worse because I wasn't accustomed to sit in a more healthy way, but it was worth sticking with it. Thank you for doing the research and sharing it.
Would love to see you make that video!
I actually used the "side arm" sitting position when I started out PC gaming naturally without knowing anyone else did it. I simply did it because my desk was a bit to high so I needed to rest my whole arm on top otherwise my forearm would scrape the edge. Since my desk wasn't that deep I just angled everything which led to that style
I bet its a similar reason for the pro who does it.
I've experimented a lot with arm and elbow positions and in my experience having your elbow on or right next to the edge of the table is the way to go in CS. You get the best range of motion and consistency but you do need a BIG table. Moving your arm further back requires you to use your shoulder to keep your arm from falling and that bit of tension adds inconsistency. Your range of motion is also reduced. Keeping my arm/elbow on an armrest gave me even better and more stable aim but the range of motion was so small that I had to raise my sens and lose that advantage.
I understand I am 4 years late, but could you give me a pro example of this.
really great video man
Wow that mouse arm all the way bend inwards helped me allot with faster aims.
When you feel like you can't provide any more to the FPS section of gaming, try expanding on other genres of games? I'd love to hear your thoughts on these kinds of things for other games as well
Interesting video! Nice that you mention Quake players. Speaking of which, I couldn't find a picture anywhere but arguably the best HLDM player ever (Half-Life Deathmatch, which was extremely skill-based and competitive at the time), GaRpY, used to play with a mouse with his right hand but with his left hand he'd use a controller. I have no idea how he managed that but he got to a really high level in a game that requires very complex movement mechanics.
He's still competing in the Quake Pro League under the Myztro organization but he's changed to a more standard set up a long time ago. He streams Quake and Apex Legends on Twitch if ever you want to ask him.
Im a huge fan of HLDM and used to play a lot myself. I totally agree that it's one of the most skillful games out there! I haven't found a game that has matched the aerial combat provided by the gauss gun
Trying Different Sitting Positions is really key. I had a gaming posture like scream but would perform very inconsistently(some matches would top frag and others really suck). When I tried Sitting straight like shroud or twistzz I was unstoppable and went from Gold 3 to Diamond real quick
6:50 I’m interested! Overall good video. I would not have been able to come up with this
stretches on back neck and wrist arm is really needed!
Both wrists. Not just the mouse hand.

Wow great video. Can't wait for a video talking about what socks pro gamers are wearing.

I play a lot Like Jdm. Way back in my chair with my forearm almost completely in the desk. Ever since I did that I started too fragging and hitting great shots.
So Basically: Try and see what works for you. Thanks man, i appreciate the effort.
When one of the greatest Quake players ever has made "over $180,000" over the past 20 years. Kinda sad how Quake was so instrumental in laying the groundwork for competitive gaming yet only was a living or truly a career launching point for a just a small handful of players.
Quake is amazing
yeah, nowadays quake is considered dead by many people. But I think it lives in the form of a game called krunker.io

Good stuff .... can you please make a video on your daily stretches and exercises?
After testing sitting styles and how my aiming can get improved, I personally found myself better and more comfortable sitting like s1mple. Mix of arm and wrist aiming with elbow locked on position. My posture though seems fine and better than before as I can achieve playing/sitting more without feeling any soreness. Thanks for the awesome video once again!

Thank you for another helpful video! Can you do a video on hand placements on keyboard? I'm pretty new to mouse and keyboard gaming and I feel most comfortable with the right side of my keyboard slanted towards my chest. Is it beneficial to stick with the traditional style where the keyboard is more parallel to the edge of the desk?
Keyboard placement is totally personal preference. The important thing is to find an angle and distance that allows you quick access to all the surrounding keys around your movement keys (WASD) and a position that doesn't strain your hand, forearm, and shoulder
I’m 14 and have a very bad back and shoulders from gaming so thank you so much for this it helped my get comfortable.
You're very welcome :)
Congratulations you are getting sponsor now love you
I was literally looking for some advice for a better gaming and hand positioning way for playing Arsenal in Roblox...thx bro
I've heard it referred to as Russian style for the "keyboard in lap, mouse on desk" setup. I heard it from a buddy who used to play UT a lot.
Indeed, I've always known it as Russian style among quake players, and have heard it attributed to Russian quake players playing in rooms for LAN with "not much space" which then, because some of them were quite good, inspired players of other countries to try it, which stuck for some of the ones that became especially successful.
for the first sitting position its becuase the computer desk back in the days its so small that only fits a keyboard in the slider.
I think if you have the choice, it's best to try to develop a posture towards the conventional "proper" sitting position early on - chin down, neck not craning forward, hip rested on the back, shoulders relaxed, chest out and legs at 90 degrees, etc.
i sit just like allu when playing on keyboard and mouse but i lay back more on controller for rocket league
Yes please give us a video about posture and stuff. Because I am 16 and getting back problems so I need help
i have a posture like these quake guys, my friend does too. for my case its because i sat a table that was at a particular L shape that forced me to put my arm infront of the keyboard. for my friend, his usb cable was too short and so he eventually and permanently fixed into an internal rotation, which i think is the main reason because maybe these old box computers gave the same problem
Nice video man, but there is a lot more of sitting positions, we could make a longer video about it. After 10 years of playing fps games I noticed sitting position is very important, even more important than your mouse grip.
The "style" of playing with your keyboard on your knees stems from Eastern Europe where desks with the sliding pad for keyboard were extremely popular among gamers' parents. Because in their mind the desk was not meant solely for the PC, but also for the paper stuff, like reading, writing, and doing homework. So the idea of being able to hide the keyboard underneath the desk seemed genius to them. I know a few people who became "victims" of this and even after growing up they are still used to having their keyboard on a lower level compared to a normal desk.
I know this is a year old. I wouldn't necessarily say it stems from EU. Back 20 years ago, most desks even in NA had a slide out keyboard. To this day, I'm addicted to having my keyboard lower than the desk. I'm not sure how they can rest it on their lap though, it would feel too wobbly to me. If I ever switch to having my keyboard on my desk, I'll have to invest in a standing mechanical desk so I can have both arms comfortably on an equal level.
@@JohnB-mo4kq Well, I think in the West they started disappearing around mid 2000s, but in the Eastern Europe they are still using them today. Especially in libraries and stuff like that. And I still have friends who are using this kind of desk :)
@@VioletMiracle I'm still using one as well, lol. I can't get used to anything else.
This is the most important stuff! If sitting position is uncomfortable I cant even aim!!
Interesting video. Never seen crazy shit like this.
Entire forearm and elbows on the table is the best posture, since your arm weight is left to the table thus reduce strain on your shoulder. However, if your table is too low or your seat is too high, it will caused strain to the back and shoulder. In competition gaming events, it can be hard to get the right seat or table height due to the type of monitors and chairs.
Personally, I tend to have the table height close to chest level so my entire forearm and elbow can rest on the table. Likewise, my back will always be straightened and not "bend" even when I subconsciously lean forward to the screen.
concerning raphas sittin position. back in those days Pc desks commonly had a drawer below where you would place the keyboard
TLDR: you can be successful sitting in any position.
love rapha's mouse bungee so much
I just got a sweet deal on a slightly used maxnomic chair :)
The keyboard to kneel in Quake - the first did Polosatiy. Due to pain in his hand, he could not keep his hand on the table.
Actually his hand was fractured so he had to seat this way
Polosat1y is the russian quaker. So, this posing was named "russian style". After that many gamers copy him.
By the way, in Russian computer clubs there was not enough place for a mouse. partly why many held the keyboard on their lap. cooler, cypher, unkind
can you make a video about mouse accel and why some pros use it? (Xantares, swag)
Make a posture video, I would definitely watch!
I pretty much okay like that jdm64 guys position. It's the comfiest to sit in for long gaming sessions. Been playing online fps since about 2000.
I have no clue how jdm has been effective with such sitting style 🥺🥺🥺
Find a healthy and compfortable position and learn from there.
Your back will thank you later.
Gaming is great, health is greater.
I can't *_stand_* having my eyes so/too close/being too close to a monitor in general (I have perfect vision, feelings of immersion aren't/isn't really a problem for me anyway).. It's like a _weird_ claustrophobia feeling that I get. Even though I'm not claustrophobic. It's hard to describe exactly.. but besides the fact that my overall field of view is affected and I get uncomfortable from having a monitor *right* in front of my face.. It puts (more than wanted) strain on my eyes and obviously *the whole* _leaning thing_ that you mentioned in the video makes my neck and back hurt, etc.
Besides that, I definitely have to try some of these out.. I use a typical posture, just neck and back straight, etc. Nothing special. I've gotten use to it.. which is good and the "form/style" I take is easily repeatable but it doesn't really reap any other benefits.. Great job on the video btw, thank youu for all the info/input/tips!!
I've been sitting the wrong way all time. Don't want to happen the same with my kid.
Very educating video. Very cool👌🅱️
4:25 headphone's mouthpiece or microphone looks like jdm64's mustache 🤣
4:12 How i control a spaceship.
I think some players get used of first position shown in the video, because it wasnt rare, that tables had extra hollow shelf for keyboard below the desk. So they just tried to copy that, placing a keyboard below
This question makes me feel outdated as hell. But is this the OG awper from team3D? Cant believe i just found this channel. Personally haven’t played since csgo released. But thank you for the amazing memories and highlights from the early 2000s. 3D was iconic. And your skills paved the way for snipers. Respect rambo. True legend of counter-strike
Hiya! Yes, I was on team 3D, but I wasn't the primary awper. You may be thinking of the legendary Ksharp! He was a beast! Thanks for your kind words
As someone who has had disk problems, avoid bad posture when possible
WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN
So, I noticed one thing I was doing was having my arms too close together. Having my shoulders be the gauge for the spacing I need between my arms helped give my forearm the range it needs while relieving the tension I usually have in my wrist.
Ive been repping the JDM position my whole life. I think it actually translates well into old age, as I intend on getting lazy boy, drinking beer, and watching 2 and a half men reruns after the age of 70.
I believe JDM has switched to a more conventional sitting style recently.
I play valorant while Im lying down on my bed with my laptop on top of my lap and mousepad on the bed. idk how am i supposed to transition that if i play competitive
Completely true lack of desk space at the net cafes waay back when gaming started for quake and cs. Forced to use keyboard on lap
I think the talent/skill is mostly emotional stability. Whatever it takes for each individuals homogeneous background that allows them to sustain boundaries against pressure and just rather enjoy the game instead and learn from it at the same time. Maybe another way to say it is that it's an emotional response that if some people don't get it then they shouldn't feel hopeless and that maybe they should be doing something else and like taking care of certain responsibilities etc. That said, I'm not saying that if someone does have the ability to be cool, calm and collective that gaming is their calling and 'best & wisest' direction in life. Like Rapha could shine in something else which may be better for him than playing quake in an isolated room with more than likely a large (speculation) bunch of viewers living their life vicariously when watching him. There are heaps of characters out there with people who respond emotionally to things differently too so it may be that they need to find what drives their emotion and self efficacy to believe that what they do is making them a capable individual. Temperment, empathy, hatred, social acceptance are words amidst many that can be the agonist or antagonist in what they do. So if we talking about posture it may be a bit deeper than simply sitting in a certain way. When you embrace something willingly with desire, confidence etc you embrace it with your full focus and enthusiasm.
Hey, thanks for your well thought out comment. I agree, there are a multitude of factors that influence ones ability to reach the elite level -- factors including mentality, upbringing, and physical factors like how they sit, etc..
3:24 The seating position started because kids would be on adult sites and their hand below the desk and when someone came in they could just say they have the keyboard down there
