I taught myself how to read and write Tamil - I can't speak it fluently but I'm a little better than the average tourist.

Continued Success to You! Tibetans are an amazing people...great contributors to World Culture and Art. Tibetan Buddhism may well be one of the most pictorial religious systems of the world. The Symbolism in Tibetan Buddhism is astounding...it s worth studying by anyone wishing to add new dimensions to Cognitive Science or the science of the human mind. Specialists in Tibetan may be able to understand better Tibetan Symbolism and Tantric concepts... strive to understand how the language is connected to the visual representations of Buddhist concepts.
May be the best decision in ur life. Not cuz of Tibetan language cuz now u r very close to Buddhism. I believe the greatest teasure of mankind lie in Tibetan Buddhist script.🙏🏽💐🙏🏽

It’s a lot easier to think in Tibetan. Makes way more sense than English. Scriptural Tibetan is also not the same as spoken. I learned attending for my Root Lama and then did some translation until I had some brain damage from autoimmune disease and lost it and a lot of English. As I was re learning I really felt it was easier to think in it. Fewer rules to remember.

I would like to know if you recommend a program to be a tibetan translator!! I have been fascinated by the RYI program based in nepal i think. May i ask what other language you speak, is the grammar of tibetan the hardest?

Once you learned Tibetan can speak every language very easily.
So, in a nutshell, immersion and hard work. You're very lucky to have had these opportunities. How on earth did you pay for it all?
thank you! luckily india and nepal were very cheap at the time and the teachers and institues I studied at cost me like 1/10 from what I would spend a month studying in Europe. So very affordable studies. Although prices are little higher now, it is still way cheaper than studying in Europe

How many years does it take to learn spoken Tibetan as an adult?
It really depends. I recommend you to do a summer immersion course for Tibetan that will deeply supported your learning at home. In Dharamsala and Khatmandu they offer such courses.
It’s depends for You …! First really need environment more people who spoke Tibetan …And also meet more People Who speak Tibetan …

Yes. Keep in mind that for buddhist practice texts one should learn classical Tibetan. Colloquial Tibetan is not necessary in this case.

Hi Julika! I am a tibetan who studied in indian school from my kindergarten and hence do not read or write tibetan. Though i want to learn i never seem to improve. Plz tell me how can i learn written tibetan and grammar. But i do speak tibetan.
