  • John Schneider shares stories of how he attempted to turn down his role as Jonathan Kent on Smallville… multiple times! Plus, he touches on the deeper reason for him deciding to do the show.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
John Schneider (The Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville) joins this week to open up on the success he’s had in Hollywood over the last several decades through the idea of expecting greatness in one’s self, rather than anticipating failure. John also explores the differences between one’s ego and destiny, while sharing how he has lacked nervousness through the strength of his own optimism and ignorance. We talk about his wife’s battle with cancer, John’s experience on Smallville and Dukes, and also how he was able to transform from the “fat kid” into a Hollywood success story.

@@ron.hertzberg You're right when you say Kevin Costner destroyed the role of Jonathon Kent. Or more accurately, the disgraceful writing and directing absolutely destroyed that character in every way as it couldn't have been further from who Jonathon Kent is and always has been. He was more like a Bizarro Jonathon Kent. It's no wonder that ''Clark'' was so fucked up and lacking in any heroic qualities.

I'm so happy he did the show. He is Jonathan Kent. Costner was good but Schnider was great.

Costner got his inspiration from John whom in turn got his inspiration on how to play the character from Kevin's starring role in Field of Dreams.

I did love you as Jonathon Kent. Also loved you in Dr. Quin in your reoccurring roles as Sullys friend. You first came on as the guy with the half breed baby. They must have e liked you. Dukes was good too. My younger brother was real in to it. He built a General Lee car. I think you met him at some shows on several occasions. He kind of looks like Luke.. He's from a town near Knoxville TN. I can't say his name on here he wouldn't like it.

the chris reeve superman movies are great, but he might be right when he says smallville might be the best part of the mythos (at least on screen.), it's at least not something i have arguments against without pulling animation into it

The funny thing about a Smallville to me was, at first I could not imagine you as Pa Kent, yet after I saw your wonderful performance as the character, I couldn’t imagine anybody else as Pa Kent for that matter.
