It's high praise to say someone could read the phone book and make it interesting. Jean Shepherd does it with the Sears catalog.

I've had a 100th anniversary replica of the 1897 Sears catalog for over 20 years. Back in the day, I was interested in old Sears catalogs since my uncle has an old replica of the 1900 catalog. Sears used to sell a lot more, including groceries and medicine. That's what made me interested in them.

When the Sears catalog first came out, it was as game changing as the internet has been. There's an old Sears house in the town where I grew up.

It's ironic that a store that largely built itself on catalogue sales, completely failed on the modern catalogue, the internet.
