    One of these days I hope I will be able to understand why people still fit chest-type fridges on heavy drop slides, in lieu of the more sensible idea of a conventional front-opening fridge. It is fixed in position and requires no heavy slide...and stuff inside is MUCH easier to access. My Silverado came with a drop down fridge slide and aluminium cage. The 60 litre Engel + slide + cage was removed and weighed-in @ 100kg. I junked the whole lot and replaced it with an upright Engel (I got a cheap 55 litre unit off Gumtree) which weighs 23kg.
    I'm hoping you'll tell us how much that Ranger weighs with all that stuff on it (including passengers etc when fully loaded) and see how that compares with the GVM.

      @seventytwo1001000 Před 4 lety +7

      My reasoning would be securing of items in the fridge and chest style fridges are more efficient. Upright fridges while easier to access allow the contents to move around a hell of a lot more especially on rough tracks, where as chest style you can tetris every thing in to keep stuff from moving around. The second reason is efficiency, chest style fridges use less power than uprights which is important if you are running off batteries. Chest fridges dont dump out all the cold air every time you open the door like an upright does, so no having to cool down the air again. You can fill a chest fridge to the brim which you just cant do with an upright, this means greater thermal mass which easier to keep cold once its at temperature. I am sure there are other benefits to uprights, but for me the benefits of the chest fridge out weigh the cons

    At last someone prepared to give true costs..expensive, but nice....100% right off this years tax... few things to reduce costs. Exit James Baroud roof top, have Driftas new one. Exit most of Redarc toys ( it's camping guys, not Bondi )...can't wait for the camper expo.

    Nick, great build love what you have done! Have you found that the power and performance has suffered from the extra weight you have added? Have you retuned the engine or anything to do with performance?
    Cheers,
