"Singer" is a Chinese competition show for established stars where voting is done by a specially selected 500 member audience. The musically discerning group is age balanced between young and old for each of the 14 episodes. Each member votes for three favorite performances of that episode. Seven singers compete on each show and the one with the least votes is kicked off. Because it focuses on singing, a performer can use no more than two of their own compositions. The show is well run with great lighting, cinematography, musical direction and superb background singers and musicians.
You listened to Dimash's performances for the first 3 episodes, filmed a week a part. Dimash's first appearance in the Chinese market was through the performances on this show and he took first place for the first two episodes that you saw. Dimash took second place overall to Sandy Lam, a Chinese music industry veteran of 30 years. She's good but no Dimash.

All I can say is that never in all my 63 years have I heard a voice quite like Dimash's - I remember going to watch The Vienna Boy's Choir in late 60's and they had voices like this but that was a choir !! But its not just his voice or stage presence - there is something special about his character that one seldom see in today's day and age - can't quite articulate what I'm trying to say but I'm sure you will see it. Dimash is university trained in classical opera and also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and recently he finished his master degree in music composition. Now he is planning to start his doctorate in Musicology. At the age of 5 years old, he said a piano was out of tune and he could reproduce notes, so their parents and teacher came to know he has absolute pitch. At the same age he won a piano contest and he used to draw himself on stage with his musical instruments. This competition is only for established professional singers with at least one professional singing award and contestants are all by invitations ONLY. No amateur singer wannabes here.
Please, please make sure you watch and listen to every song that Dimash has done because he is literally the best vocalist in the world & that is a statement made by many vocal coaches, professional musicians and vocalist as well as his fans! His vocal range is over 6 octaves but that’s not all, it’s also the emotion he puts in to every song, the way he performs, the way he moves his body, hands, eyes ect. He is very famous around the world and is such a humble and kind & respectful 25yr old man! Did I mention how handsome he is? He’s 6’3” Dark hair, dark eyes, I could go on but if you watch he will definitely capture your attention very well in many ways! Hi Becky, Great reaction. Just FYI Dimash is on Singer which is a weekly competition in China, Dimash was invited as the wild card. He is Kazakh from Kazakhstan. These are weekly shows all condensed into one for us Dimash fans which there are millions worldwide along with many, many fan clubs. This is where he became known. He was 22 going on 23 here. He is now 25 and on a worldwide concert tour. He had his first U.S. concert in New York in December and I was there! You can find it on CZcams along with almost all of his concerts and many, many concerts. You are lucky, you can see Singer all at once. I had to wait week by week for each episode. The only thing is you are missing out on the behind the scenes. There is an English Subtitle version of SOS and it has the entire back story starting with Dimash arriving in China to perform for an audience he did not know, with a language he did not speak. It had to be scary at first. But Dimash's passion for music kept him there. The SOS and the video BORN TO SING will give you all the background you need to understand Dimash and the Singer.

From what I understand this was his first performance and the 1st performance of that season's competition. He was unknown at that point. The crowd were cheering because it was the 1st performance of the season. I don't think anyone there was prepared for what they were about to witness.
More precisely, Dimash SINGS in 12 languages. He is fluent in Kazakh and Russian, and studies English and Chinese (Mandarin, I think). Regardless, he is quite remarkable!
Wait till you listen to Adagio and Late Autumn with subs on. Technically speaking these 3 are examples of great techniques implementation along with superb stage presence.
