  • I have been hunting for a reasonably priced earlier version of the recently released Lionel Strasburg 89. My grandson Julian is a big fan of the locomotive along with Thomas the Tank engine and so am I. So I was delighted to find at Trainz.com a very reasonably priced Lionel 2-6-0 Mogul with Canadian National markings (same as the Strasburg 89 before it was acquired by Strasburg). Both locomotives were built for the Canadian Grand Trunk Railroad in 1910 at the Canadian Locomotive works in Kingston Ontario, Canada and used for many years on the CANADIAN NATIONAL before becoming either museum displays (86) or running on a tourist railroad like 89.
Engine 86 does not have all the technical upgrades that 89 has like Lionchief, Legacy, TMCC and fan driven smoke but it can run conventional, which I have via a ZW transformer and does have ability for TMCC, Railsounds and even a fan driven smoke unit (although a bit weak). It may not be Strasburg number 89 but it's sure looks like its mirror image with a slightly different number. I'm going to have to consider acquiring a Trainmaster Command set if I acquire any more locomotives like this one.
Thought you'd enjoy a few different views of it, some slow motion of course and at the very end a nice 3 train run including the 2004 Canadian #86, the MPC 1970s era New York Central 8600 and my recently acquired New York Central switcher 8516. Enjoy!
