This is a beautiful model of Colorado & Southern No. 641. It’s one of those preserved steam locomotives that used to do snow clearing jobs. Even to this day we still have steam locomotives plowing the snow clear.
So fun fact. Last year me and my mom went out for a little drive outside of Colorado springs and just between Denver and Colorado springs Is the original rail banked Colorado and Southern Route. There's a plaque along the river that depicts the heroic actions of one Colorado Southern engineer who stayed aboard the locomotive to manage the brakes while everyone else evacuated from the train. He lost his life but everyone else was saved.
May I say that even though the rails are long gone, you can still drive the original grade on your car and it is a beautiful drive. One of the homeowners along the grade has an original caboose and their front lawn as a little clubhouse for their kids
Wow
I picked the Copper Range #29 version that was offered by Patrick’s Trains in Wheeling, WV. I rode behind CR #29 operated by the Keweenaw Central Railroad when I was in college. Lots of good memories. CR #29 now resides at the Mid-Continental Railway Museum in North Freedom, WI.
Glad lionel made some updates to that old 2-8-0 tooling, looks great
Hahaha you look like the kid from A Christmas Story😂 it's a very nice train thanks for sharing
Pat's Trains did a Custom Run with a black plow and a red top under the Copper Range Roadname. That's the one I ordered and received. My favorite engine in my fleet!!!
Fun fact: You can see the real locomotive in Leadville colorado at the Leadville colorado and southern railroad
Lionel got this one right, for a change. It's similar to #638 that is n display up in Leadville, CO. That engine ws the lst stemaer to operate up there ending it's service in 1960.
This Model is Incredible, The Plow on it is great.👍
😂, those goggles are great 👍
Now maybe add a winter season on your layout. that would be cool! Love the plow!
Love that #2 whistle
Hey Eric maybe this year you might be able to use it for plowing snow off your driveway.
I like whistle #2, and bells #1 and #3
Very cool looking locomotive 🚂 👍🏻✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️ the ride along and Ariel views of your layout are extraordinary ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
I also have this locomotive and it’s amazing! Love that red plow!
Love this model ❤❤❤❤
Looks great Eric, thanks for sharing! I see Legacy Station still has some in stock. 😏
Great looking model. Wished it had the swinging bell feature. Then it would be a perfect engine for all layouts.
My fav whistles were two and five. Just a thought; you could showcase a scale Kadee coupler on the pilot / snowplow..
Very cool. The plow looks better than it did in the catalog. I like Whistle 3 and bell 3.
going flying ? love the plow !!!!!
Lionel really went hard on the road-specific details with this model. Makes it almost hard to choose a favorite.
I appreciate Eric presenting this on the first day of Summer
Whistle #5, bell #1. I'm new to this channel, and I probably should mention that I don't even do Lionel. (I do N scale and American Flyer S scale.) But "trains is trains," I love some of the features on these engines, and I love your reviews. You've got a nice layout as well.
Such a neat engine and a great choice!
Liking that snowplow attachment a lot
My favorite whistle is either 1 or 3 and my favorite bell is 1
Great engine and video Eric!
Great video, very nice engine. I am glad Lionel is improving smoke units. That one smokes like an MTH.
Another beautiful locomotive for your collection Eric!
Congratulations and enjoy!
Thank you for sharing.😊
I would love to get this engine.
I like the #2 whistle, kind of that steamboat sound
Eric, the picture of u in the thumbnail looks like ur working on the Rio Grande Southern railroad in 1936 and you've just gotten your steam engine stuck in the snow for the fourth time. (Rio grande Southern: a narrow gauge railroad that was run by drunks and owned briefly by the US Department of Defense in WW2)
Great vidio, love that loco. Thanks for the morning coffee...
Great work, model looks awesome 👌
Cool train thanks for showing 👍
Lovely loco with brawny shoulders.
I really love your flats on the upper level -- very cool!
12:55 whistle sounds great
Great history Eric
Nice video
Great model! Thanks Eric! I hope to find the connection of history for Burlington’s logo and Colorado Southern. Its funny how the unique features like the plow dial collectors in. I’m guilty! Neat distinction to the Consolidation line. Happy runnings.
Whistle #1 has to be the best in my opinion too. The Bell on the other hand, I can't really choose one.
Incredibly impressive video of an incredible model. Big is not always better!
Couldn't agree more!
Your opening look reminds me of 4 the last clone of Doug from the movie Multiplicity with Michael Keaton.
I’m glad I didn’t pre order this. Instead I waited for the next catalog and was rewarded with the ACCURATELY MODELED READING SD45 in 2024, finally with the extended cab. Got a $600 Series X awaiting pre-order, a scale wheel Atlas “O” 4015 (SD70M) on pre order with Mr.Muffins, and the Reading SD45 with Legacy Station (7603 to be exact). I’m done with my pre orders for 2024. 🤣
Eric for that o gauge train my favorite whistle is number one ☝️ and my favorite bell is also number one
Great!
Like this comment if you think Lionel should make pilot mounted snowplows into a separate purchase accessory for all future steam locomotives. I for one would love to see something like that on its own so I can mount it to my postwar 2018
That would be cool
I got the DMIR. Working on a great lakes frieghter that hauls ore from the DMIR docks
@@steamboatkid I really want to pick up the DMIR version
How’s that long tunnel of you and Chris going so far so long? You both still using it?
id love lionel to make a southern railway consolidation 401
Whistle #4
bell #1
whistle number 4 for simple fact its a banshee and i have works drawings for that whistle
Awesome!
@@Ericstrains i plan on building one if i do definitely gonna be a interesting since am in the uk xD
Very nice. That is a good looking locomotive and the plow makes it even nicer. Like all newer locomotives, it really smokes-up a storm, which is pretty cool. It looks great running around your layout and would be a fine addition to any layout, modeling that region. As usual, the #1 bell and whistle are the most prototypical. The other bells just don't sound right, too tinny and flat. The other whistles are pretty good, except #4, which sounds way too European. Other than that, they are just too 'throaty' for this locomotive. An excellent video, as always.
Hi Eric I have a MTH Angus 0880 I need. A little bit of help the other night I had it running on my layout and all of a sudden it just stopped in its tracks and came off the active screen and went to inactive list an now I can not get it back what a big pain.
Whistle #4 😊
Do you know when the ES 44'S are going 2 come in Eric?
I wish they would put a delay in the crew talk for the brake test
They ask for a set and then immediately say good set, release. And then immediately say good brake test
Air brakes take time to set and release so I wish they’d simulate that in crew talk
I edited out any delays to help the pacing of the video.
4:43 Numbet WHAT??!!
You look like that goofy kid in A Christmas Story with goggles on waiting to see Santa 🎅🏻 😆🤣😂
Eric - I believe you can move a train from one levl to another on your layout. If that is the case, what was the distance(in feet) you needed to make the climb from the lower level to the upper level? Many thanks
my incline is very steep, it's about a 6% grade. Ideally it'd be better if it had about 30 feet to make the climb instead of 15.
Can a dummy o gauge coupler work on the back of the tender?
A dummy coupler will work just fine, you just can’t open it. It’s permanently closed.
Bit of a dumb question but what is up with the glowing hopper car? That thing is glowing and changing colours, right? Or am I just seeing things?
It's a glowing hopper car made by Menards.
Whistle #1 first, then whistle #3, but whistle #4 sounds like it's from overseas 👎🏻
Bell #3
One additional comment, please. For a $900 engine, I feel there is too much cast in detail. The piping and air compressors should be seperate deatail items and the snow plow needs rivet details.
Standard Lionel model.
Detachable? Who in their right mind would though? I’d leave it on even if I had a desert layout. Lol
I agree, but you know if it wasn’t detachable people would complain lol
@@Ericstrains ah yes a very good point
It is not o scale, and it's a narrow gauge. the k-27,36,and 37 the plow is so big the the whole front of smoke box it just plow and the hat and goggles perfect.
$900 doesn't sound that bad, much cheaper. Gotta love the consolidation even though they already made it.
Is this a legit design or a Lionel fantasy piece?
There are photos of the real C&S 641 (with red plow) in the video.
Ok, dumb question of the day....
I couldn't help knowticing the Lionel Legacy sticker on the tender, is that something new ? All the videos I've watched and I don't recall seeing that....
Probably just me ????
Stay safe, RR
These days it’s usually either on the underside of the tender or the engine. They started that maybe 5 or so years ago…maybe more. It’s usually on the engine.
@@Ericstrains ....thanks bro, figured I missed something....lol 🤪
