Thundermine is the closest thing spec has to a defensive spell. Put it on the ground near you and it will zap away all the mobs trying to rush you, giving you enough time to cast bigger spells.
Yessssssss yessssss and it last forever too.
Plus it hits weak points if they have it
But do AI pawns know how to use this defensively?

Gotta say i do love subtlety from level 2 thief on casters especially pawns makes enemies less likely to target the caster
All of it is based on your playstyle/party makeup. If you require crowd control High Hagol adds a freeze and slow debuff. It just depends on your playstyle and party makeup. I actually take High Hagol over the flare.
The most optimal party is a 4 stack of sorcs due to chain casting
(If a pawn has the same spell as the one you are charging, it can join you at your progress, meaning that you can initiate a casting charge until all 3 pawns are charging bolide for example, then you cancel, and start charging another spell for your pawns to join you at after they sling meteors for another instant massive spell
Or just get sorcs with flare and you do is just shoot out balls and watch them all get nuked..
Bolide isn't in this game.

It would be fun having 8 skills for players but the pawns not so much. Most of the times in the previous game the pawns would only use 3 skills out of 6 they had available.

You actually don't have to use courtly set to be invited. I wasn't wearing but was invited, tho i suppose it happened bc i had my sorc vocation maxed already
Interesting how Sorcerer only has 3 of the 5 Nuke Spells it had in DD1
Gicel and Fulmination are missing, we only got Bolide (Meteoron), Seism and Maelstrom, Gicel was one of Sorcerer's best and most reliable Spells since it dealt loads of Ice Damage, almost everyone who played Sorcerer had Gicel at all times because it was just that good, Fulmination wasn't as good as Gicel, it conjured a large Lightning AoE around the Caster, but you had to go near enemies to even hit them, and it was a continuous cast Spell like Frazil, what that means is that after casting the Spell you maintain it until you decide to cancel it, you get knocked out of the animation by getting hit, or you run out of stamina, the Spell would continue to deal damage while maintained by the Caster.
The reason why Fulmination was arguably the worst Sorcerer Nuke Spell is because it dealt damage over a longer period of time, during which you needed to maintain the Spell, but if you got hit it would cancel the Spell, the other Sorcerer Nuke Spells don't have this drawback because they either dump all their damage right when you cast them like Gicel (And technically Bolide and Seism, you need to wait for the Spell to hit and then it dumps it's damage), or they deal damage over time but getting hit doesn't cancel the Spell like Maelstrom
It's odd seeing Gicel and Fulmination removed from DD2 completely, and I also see they removed my Goat Brontide

As a bit of a correction for fulmination, it was a bit better than you say. By inputting, I think the heavy attack button you could channel the lightning through your pawns with an aoe around them, letting you keep distance while your melee pawns were at the vanguard.

I found, with a full party of Pawns, It absolutely murked Living Armor and Eliminators. If your pawns we're melee, you just channel it and now your pawns are conduits for your heavy magical damage while you're at a safe distance.
Gicel was nice for dragons as it had the range to reach and pierce hearts with enough Knockdown to drop them from the sky.
Seism was honestly the most mid spell for what it did, never really touched it since other spells did better, like maelstrom and High Bolide.
I actually don't like to use Mague or Sorcerer's Classes in any game, this is the first time I enjoy waiting to cast spells and deal massive damage, thank you for your guide! Earned a new sub

Thankfully the spell cast wait is very worthwhile in the Dragon's Dogma games.
This is pretty much the same skill loadout I'm using, except I don't have meteoron yet and I'm using levin as a quick to cast trash clear spell. One thing I tried was seeing if I could have spellhold in 3 slots to try to store maelstrom 3 times. Sadly, it doesn't work that way. It only stores one.
Please release a Trickster guide as early as possible. Ive been trying to make it work but boy does this vocation seem all over the place for me. Summon dragon and the offensive buff are one on the most bonkers spells in the game for me but rest of the class seem hyper situational leading to me spamming 2 skills over and over.
I have flare on my main pawn and it honestly barely used it, but when he does the big monsters basically get one shot
Just sub out high spell hold for levin or whatever else when not fighting bosses. When you know you’re coming to a boss just hit a camp fire and sub in high spell hold

Glad you’re on this game bro. So much fun to be had WITHOUT even having to rely on cheap microtransactions. Also they plan to introduce multiple save files in a patch. Shame it wasn’t day one but they are listening to players.
They won't. They'll add only an option to start a new game.
Actually, I'd rather have "manual save file," "auto save file," and "inn save file." Like the first game had.

Not sure if viable, but what if for bossing i spellhold augural, then dual cast augural, only using normal hits to buff the flare count. Can one augural boost another?

fuck i gave the forgeries to trysha and the original books to myrddin. myrddin gave me the spell right away and trysha said that something is wrong with her magick talents... because i gave her the useless books.
afterwards i gave flowers to her grandparents (they fucking hated them, do not do this!!!), did an escort quest for her grandma, then another one for trysha and still no spell. then i've been camping outside her house for four days, still NOTHING. no quest, no spell. then i gave trysha 6 pretty flowers (she loves them), still NOTHING AAAAHHHHH. i fear that i cant acquire the spell anymore
edit: i finally got another spell... i spammed 10 apples and 4 grapes on trysha as a gift in a timespan of 3 more days, AND i gave her GRANDFATHER 1 copper ore and 1 silver ore as a gift (he said and i quote "this is beyond my ken", which sounds like he didnt like it too much) and as soon as i have done that the grandma went into the home and gave me the the celestial paean.
edit2: gave trysha more apples and grapes, gave 4 gold ore to her grandfather, no luck. checked the morgue if someone was dead, nope. threw trysha off of a cliff and revived her.... still nothing. guess i will never receive the meteor spell.
Easiest way to get Courtly set is by giving Sven the Ornate box/1000 gold, and chat with him a couple times, he'll eventually give you the courtly set along with cash, among other gifts on the third time you chat with him by the fountain.
I wanna know why they didnt put the ultra level ice and lightning spells Gicel & Fulmination from the first game in this game. They put Bolide (now called Meteron), Seism, and Maelstrom in. We have ultra fire, wind, and earth spells but where are the ultra ice and lightning spells?
We'll probably have it in a future DLC, because Capcom clearly wants to make a profit.
You should definitely get archer to rank 4 to unlock endurance for extra stamina
Salamander procs flare just as much as maelstrom only downside is you have to aim at the feet, but that honestly doesn't matter for how much damage this does. I believe hagol can do the same but i really dont like that spell 💀 if you wish you can have a second sorcerer for that specifically.
Thundermine is underrated I swear it keeps people off you if you cast it first making spell hold unnecessary since you can usually cast meteoron with it up pretty reliably add augursl with a thief main pawn and you’re cooking
Absolutely love thundermine, just drop it in front of you and it repels trash mobs who come near you.
What do you do if you kill trysha? How do I get the meteor spell?! Plizz someone help

For me she killed herself while struggling to control her spells 😂 but I used a stone and It continued the quest and counted as her cooling off
Load your last inn save. That is what I had to do because my pawn nuked her with High Levin.
Where do you get the ice spike spell that just fires upwards?
its a default spell. just level up the vocation more
I feel like having both Meteoron and Maelstrom is overkill. You are never going to use both. I'd take Meteoron and High Seism - it's faster so it's good for small fights, and it's a source of physical damage in case you run into golems.
In DD1 you could have Bolide (In DD2 it's called Meteoron), Gicel (Ice Nuke Spell, it's really good), Fulmination (Lightning Nuke Spell, arguably the worst Nuke Spell), Seism (Idk why Bolide and Maelstrom are separate spells from it in DD2, by all means it should be a Maister Spell too), Maelstrom, and Holy Boon (Holy focused Bolt go brr)
Meteoron melts golems so that honestly seems a waste.

I still feel it's kind of nerfed. I could solo the game with a sorcerer in the first game and loved doing it, especially after a late switch to Magick Archer, now the sorcerer doesn't have any quick ways to stagger attacking enemies and swift jumping attacks are so common from the enemies and cause so much stagger. I was stun locked by a cyclops - not the swiftest of beasts. Sat on me, then before I could do anything about it, hit me a couple more times and I died. Still, the flare thing is working well. Kind of wish I had 6 spells at my fingertips instead of 4. Oh well. It's still pretty fun.
The regular bolt works great for staggering. Just mash the button and it blows the fuck out of anything. Especially good on Harpies :)

First check the guy that does forgeries, he had 2 of them that I sold. There are multiples of some books like the meteor book
the forgery guy might have it. otherwise if you're on PC cheat engine with the item spawner table, reframeworl dll required i think
Why is nobody ever talking about spell syncing ?
As much as the game had a lot of improvements, they also removed a lot from dd1. I feel like dd1 had better sorcerer spells and slots. In dd2 there are only 2 considered big spells while in dd1, we had bolide, maelstrom, gicel, seism and fulmination plus other debilitation spells. Now the rest are just ordinary spells, they are not grand looking anymore, although some are strong like flare. I just dont feel im commanding the elements and nature anymore in dd2

It's kind of a bad build cause you have nothing that can be "quick cast" or to defend yourself.
Replace High Spellhold (except if you want that burst possibility) or Maelstrom with "High Thundermine".
The spell is fast to cast and will stay at the location you throw it. It will bump ennemies that are coming near (except big guys ofc but still do some damage to them). This will allow you to free cast Meteor and/or Maelstrom that can't use the "quick cast" ability.
High Thundermine is also great to deal with Birds cause when they rush on you they get stun.
It's why I also recommend replacing something like Meteoron for High Levin or a similar skill.
High Thundermine is indeed amazing at preventing most common enemies from attacking you!

My only issue with this game is that the enemies don’t get harder on New Game plus… doesn’t seem to be any kind of level scaling I’m just destroying everything and I’m not really having fun anymore but the first play through I had was amazing! Like I get not making goblins take forever to kill which is cool but at least up the damage or Health pools of the bigger monsters so I can test out my “builds”

Sorcerer exclusive spells besides Flare are straight up trash tier in this. None of the AoE spells, including Maelstrom are ever worth casting for the time and damage instead of using the same spells Mages have access to on trash. Bosses get hit with Flare and it's game over.
The best Sorcerer pawns also have only two spells slotted: Flare and High Levin. They cast Flare, and you can even power it up for them.
If you’re playing a sorcerer you’re playing the game on hard mode. I played sorcerer for my first 60 hours and switched to rouge and the game was instantly easier.
The problem is the targeting is just terrible and you’re relying on your pawns for the most part with flare. You’re also SUPER squishy.

The 3000 mobs you have to kill walking around are harder, but i was able to kill a drake before my friends did on spearhead. Probably a skill issue since spearhand is gaming journalist difficulty.

My issue with spellcasters is the gameplay isnt fun. You're just standing around waiting for what is a essentially a timer.
it's whole point of balancing out magic-cast, never played WoW or L2?
