So this steam tram will be my next destination for the Deutschlandticket. Thanks for showing us!
It is a very weird but interesting route. Make sure you study the timetable as trains run at weird times and often change routes part way through, and some of the outer ends of the routes only have a couple of trains per day.
Thanks! I will :). I am utterly amazed how you always find these gems!! Good work!
In Poland regular steam trains run from Wolsztyn to Leszno on regular days and run to Poznań on Saturdays.

»Oh scheiße!«
... bester Part! ... 😂
Neatly summarised, thank you, there's a lot going on! IIRC whilst the HSB steam train is available on an ordinary ticket, there's a special fare if you take the side-trip up to the Brocken \m/
According to Wikipedia, The Harz railway line joined together with Nordhausen tramway in 2004, and thus the modern duo-trams were introduced. That explains the weird fronts the older diesel trams have. They might be old railcars having fronts to complete the tramway code of the tramtrain operation.
ja, das hängt damit zusammen
The "older diesel trams" are indeed just regular diesel railcars. They were built in the 90s and had that tram-like front from the start. They were built like that to make the historic Harz railway look a bit more modern and up to date.
I see you had fun. I live nearby and use Abellio almost every day. Abellio is fine, but the infrastructure operator DB Netz is crap. The tracks are dilapidated and there is always a lack of dispatchers.
A very strange but awesome combination. What are those things that look like cute green monsters?
Why are the sleepers on the countryside tram placed diagonally?
I actually live only 1 hour away from nordhausen but i never saw any of those Diesel Trams! That's so cool, i will visit them sometime
Trams that can run on regular railways are the best of both worlds and should be more commonplace
It makes you wonder if the money made on the UK franchises goes to fund these quaint little trams. Nice work though, pity about the merseyrail video, I enjoyed the surf! Perfect surfing rails provided also on the cabs of the new trains!
Merseyrail video? I haven't surfed in the UK since when I did the 1992 train ages ago
@@benolifts 😃😃😃😃😃🤣🤣
my apologies, getting confused in my old age... must be another CZcamsr
Kain Hogg did Merseyrail. I am making an backup of train surf video from the UK. A lot of people surf in the UK then get in trouble with BTP and then remove their videos. Also youtube removes a lot of train surf content. It would be nice if someone was to put in the full effort and surf loads of stuff in the UK, but I guess there is not much motivation for people when the police are strict and youtube doesn't like the videos. Usually it is the people who surf just for internet clout that come and go the fastest.
I personally have stopped caring about internet popularity. I do what I do for my personal interest instead of caring what others think. I love train surfing and do a lot of train surfing abroad. I had to stop doing it in my own country because I have to live with the consequences here and the UK railways are the strictest in the whole of Europe. To be able to surf long term without being screwed over I sadly have to avoid surfing the UK.
You mean Abellio?
The trams and the steam train are not operated by Abellio, they're operated and subsidised by the local councils.
Abellio is owned by the Dutch government. They used to be quite active in Germany until some three years ago. Apparently their business in Germany was a loss and they withdrew from most areas where they operated. Actually, Nordhausen is one of the few remaining routes where they are still active. And I have to say, their services are not that bad
Very interesting
A steam tram in Germany. Now that’s even more interesting to ride on. If only steam trams were still as reliable as usual trams.
Care to make another video about the Stadtbahn system in Bonn? :)
I went on the Cologne Bonn tram this trip, but just for fun. I didn't film it much as I had already done a recent video on it.
That steam train is really nice
Loved that steam train!!😍
I hate to spoil the fun for everyone, but that's not a steam tram: It's the "Harzer Schmalspurbahn", a proper railway in narrow gauge. That's why there is main line signalling, large stations and even freight service. The steam trains are for the many tourists that visit the Harz mountains every year. The little red ,diesel trams' are actually custom-built railcars for day to day commuter traffic. Diesel-electric trams from Nordhausen run on only one section of the network. Still, it is quite unique! 😉
Great video ! We had something very similar in Belgium all across the country up until the 70's when they scrapped 99% of it and replaced it with buses (the few bits remaining being the Coast Tram, the Charleroi Metro Tram and a few heritage lines here and there). Great to see that in Germany there's still a few meter-gauge countryside trams in service !
