Here is my new video on hold entries and holding patterns. It is drastically improved, easy to follow, and has simulated ATC communications and Q&A at the end of the video with a real Air Traffic Controller. You can watch it here: czcams.com/video/FWKYD1wpTl8/video.html
@@thecorporatepilotdad Fascinating. I think most viewers underestimate how long it takes to make a good, eductional video. I find your tutorials very helpful and try to repeat your flights in a Cessna 172 with Navigraph Charts. It makes much more fun to do the things like they are meant to be. VFR is great in MSFS but the true sweetness lies in the details one can learn. Really appreciate what you are doing here :)
Thank you! Happy new year to you! I'm actually going to make a new VOR video tonight for even more amazing instructional videos. It should be up tomorrow. That hold video was a lot of work so I'm glad to see people enjoying it.
Keep practicing. You'll get to the point you'll know the entry in a second just by looking at the hold. Keep trying and practicing. If you need help later on let me know. I used to teach hold entries by getting a book of approach plates out. I would point to a spot on the plate and ask what entry. I would just keep flipping to the next chart. Do it enough and it will become very easy.
After completing your first turn to head outbound, how do you know when you are abeam the VOR? Do you set the nav radial to the outbound heading, minus 90 degrees, and then begin the one minute countdown when you cross that radial?
If doing a VOR hold you'll know by the TO/FROM flag flipping again. If holding on an NDB, abeam the station is indicated when the needle is 90 degrees off the left or right side. Otherwise, start the time outbound when wings level.
So far, with the default A320 there is not a way that I know of to set up a hold. Holds are great with an FMS. They give the entry type and fly the whole procedure with the AP. I tried to set it up in the A320 after reading your comment. I think that is something yet to come.

Simply the best instructional videos for MSFS. Well done!
I am working on an updated version of this holding pattern video. It should be out in a week or less and have some new and improved features.
Very well done. Precise. Good additional information. Beeing „only“ a flight simmer, this is a pure joy to learn and apply. Thanks for your work!
You're very welcome! Glad you enjoy it. This video took about 6 hours to make so that makes comments like yours greatly appreciated.

Excellent presentation. Thanks.
Thanks. I have a new and updated video on holds that is much better. It’s from about a month ago.
This is so great. I've learned so much from watching your videos.
That makes the effort worth it to produce these videos knowing people get a lot out of them. Thank you!
Thanks for another amazing instructional video man! I’m learning so much from your videos. Happy new year!!

Thx for your video. How do you program this in the MCDU of an A320? Thx in advance, blue skies.
