- READ ME: This might not work if it's a dual boss map and the boss area is extremely small (e.g. 4 compounds).
In this video, I'll show you how to predict the boss location (Hunt: Showdown) using only one clue. This is a helpful technique if you're trying to find the boss fast, or if you're having difficulty finding the boss.
By using this technique, you'll be able to speed up the process of finding the boss and you'll be able to save valuable time while getting to the boss before your enemies do! So take a look at this video, and see how you can use one clue to predict the boss location in Hunt: Showdown.

Damn, got 1300 hours in the game I while I knew intuitively there was SOMETHING more to boss lair locations, I could never put my finger on it and didn't know it was that easy...
Thanks a lot!
I feel the same way about a lot of stuff in Hunt ;D
UPDATE: It seems that this doesn’t work 100%, especially on small boss areas (e.g. with only 4 compounds). Sorry I didn’t mention it in the video. But that’s okay, we all make mistakes ;)
I can 100% say, your conclusion is totally wrong.
In several matches, the boss located direct beneath the grayed compounds after taking only one clue.
The way you describe in your video doesn't work anymore.
@@sebastianpappe Your're 100% right. This tip hasn't worked for sometime now. Crytec must have changed something.
Well, I’m glad they changed it. Makes that part of the round a little bit more interesting
@@killerkadoffel kinda sucks though. Now it takes longer to find bosses meaning it takes longer to get into fights. We need an increase in the number of players per lobby ngl. Great video btw. Awesome editing.
Thanks! I get that. Yesterday I had a match with every single team at my starting compound within the first 3 min of the match. Oh, the funs we had :) But I don’t know if Hunt would be the same if it would be that instant and constant pvp action all of the time. Probably not
A good trick is that map filling pattern seems to be consistent for all the clues. For example if first clue fills some area on the east, most probably the next ones will fill some more eastern ones, so the boss is further west. Also going for double clues is almost always a good idea, sometimes it's even worth skipping the first one
I agree. Good way of thinking about it. Just keep in mind that this is not always how it works, just like with the method in this video.
I was told there's an additional rule.
If the compound can contain two clues, it can be next to the border.
This complicates things but it still gives you a rough idea where the boss is and I've yet to be wrong eyeing it up to about three compounds when considering the double clue rule.
The second clue helps eliminate those double clue locations.
This was one of the most useful clips ive seen regarding hunt man thank you !
after 2,3k hours I think I can guess very well where the boss might be or at least what route to take. whats also nice is just skipping your spawn compound and going right into the middle of the map. setting up ambushes is great especially when you can also get two clues at once like at weeping or port reeker etc.
Yeah, you kinda get a feel for it and don’t even think about it while playing. Then these ambushes happen naturally. Actively forcing them is pure evil. I‘ll have to try that!
Thx for sharing and in such an elegant way! Good vid without adding fillers. To the point!
Appreciate it
Great, efficient, straight to the point. Excellent video mate
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching
I played yesterday a round with some friends and told them about this tip. Problem: it didn't work :D The boss was actually directly next to a greyed out area after the first clue!
And for everybody who is wondering what happend: There were two bosses on the map, the area for the second boss included Iron Works, Fort Carmick, Wolfshead Arsenal and Bradley & Craven Brickworks. We started the game at the Iron Works where we gathered a clue. This clue greyed out only the Iron Works. Since Fort Carmick and Wolfshead Arsenal were directly next to the greyed out area, we went straight for the Brickworks. However, the boss was not there. In the end he was at Wolfshead Arsenal.
Yeah, I wish I wouldn’t have forgotten to mention that in the vid. But I put it into the description. This doesn’t work for small boss areas with only 4 compounds
@@killerkadoffel I am afraid I again have bad news. I am watching now very carefully where the boss is and where the greyed out areas were after the first clue. Unfortunately the boss spawned now multiple times near a greyed out area after the first clue, even on one-boss-maps. I don't have prove since I couldn't be bothered to make screenshots during playing, but maybe others made similar observations.
@Stockbett Thanks for sharing. Yeah, since posting the video I’m encountering the same. It’s rare, but it happens. I’m documenting it all and might do a follow up video or even a website where we can accumulate and analyze this info easily as a community. Stay tuned ;)
The Devs changed this logic some patchs ago, they said that in a video.
I suppose because all know this method after a 1000 hours and more of gameplay
That explains a lot. Thanks for the info
Thank you , if playing this game for years . And you taught me something new. Deserved sub
Great. Just Great. I refuse to disclose how many hours it took for me to sort this out. Fantastic video.
Don’t worry, same for me :D There’s just a lot going on in a Hunt match
I'm 2k hours in, and I honestly didn't know this. Great job.
You never stop learning in Hunt: Showdown! 🤠
I saw a hornet or Rachta vid where port reeker was next to grey on first clue but it stayed in the play zone and actually hosted boss. I think there is exception for double clue locations.
Yeah, seems like there are a lot of exceptions these days, even for single boss maps. Either I missed them during the research for this video or this has been changed. In any case, it’s more of a high probability where the boss is not going to be, rather than an absolute certainty.
Very nice Video! Your visual explanation is really on point. One Question: In 1:45: Isn't there a border to Pelican Island Prison? So in this example it should be Seven Sisters where the boss is no?
Thanks a lot! You’re right. It was a test for you guys ;) No, you got me there, I missed that. Makes it an even better example with only one solution. Good eye!
@@killerkadoffel may i ask which software did you use for the visual effects?
I used Photoshop to clean up the map screenshots and other pictures and Davinci Resolve to put it all together. Davinci has got to be the greatest freeware in the world. So powerful
Ill add another way to be the first at a boss location. if you go in the middle of the map for your second clue you there are two possible outcomes: are guaranteed to arrive at the same time as another team or be there first. If you go to the outskirts of the map for your second clue there are 3 possible outcomes: you will either tie another team there on arrival speed or another team will have spawned next to it and already found the boss or you will be there first team there cause the other teams went the opposite way. By going to the center of the map we eliminate one of the ways we are the second team to the boss.
I mean, you’re not wrong with the possibilities you mentioned regarding meeting other teams. Still, I would argue that the actual boss location is heavily dependent on the map cutout (actually it’s the other way around because boss location will be decided when loading the map). Not so much like mentioned in this video any more, but the cutout generally will be moving towards the location of the boss. So in some cases going to the middle of the map might not get you to the boss first.
@@killerkadoffel i mean obviously its heavily dependent on luck but I'm saying this is the optimal strategy. furthermore id suggest only send one person into a compound with serpent and a silenced weapon to get a clue and the other two split up to listen for bosses at the next base and scout for enemy spawns at the same time. A scout with fire discipline would not shoot until teammates arrive in positions to help. and would retreat from a fight if spotted and alone. lastly id even consider not grabbing clues at all (especially noisy or inconvenient ones). and just sprinting to bases and listen for the srapbeak and the butcher if that is the boss you are looking for ( the spider and assasin are kinda quiet.
They changed this semi recently it seems, 'cause nowadays the map grays out in less inuitive ways and the boss is way often right next to a grayed out area...
Tbh I don't like Crytek changed this. The previous way more or less funneled people together. Now player movement is becoming more difficult to anticipate and bigger (3+ teams) fights happen less and less frequently even on daytime single bounty as people run into each other randomly and get stuck in these engagements.
Its easy for me, i just need to run to the opposite side of the map
I have 5000 hours of experience and I haven't even noticed this, did you find out by just analyzing every match? Thanks for sharing btw!
I’m sure you have this feeling of where to go to next thought ;) Heard some people talk about that the boss is likely not here and there and then I went on to analyze it, yeah. Keep in mind it doesn’t always work (see pinned comment)
wow thanks so helpfull
love the visual presentation with the blinking stuffs and arrows and shit! keep it up!
Thanks. Made it as close to Ooga Booga as I could!
thanks! That was helpful!
Good vid thanks
There is a better technique to find the boss, not a 100% find, but i use a better strategy that work 65% or most times.
For example, in the map in the Minute 2:00, there is a strong chance that the boss is in Ash.
Do tell
Wasn’t pelican island of the second example next to the greyed out area though?
If you mean at 01:34, yes, good catch! I didn't realize there was a small border to Pelican Island Prison at the bottom when doing the video.
Tried this with a friend and it didn't always work. But it sometimes helps make a good guess.
I wouldn’t go play the lottery if I were you, because if this only works sometimes you’re having a streak of really bad luck.
@@killerkadoffel It worked 1 out of 3 time we tested it. The other times it was a compound next to a firstly greyed out one. Both times map split 50/50.
@@killerkadoffel Ok, now it didn't even work on a single boss map. Spawned ash creek, pearl was greyed out, boss was at heritage. I have screenshots if you want to see.
@trojanr-zh9he Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I still think it works generally. Figuring out why it doesn't sometimes is gonna be difficult.
@@killerkadoffel i think it's actually a good thing, that it doesn't work 100% of the time. It helps players with a lot of experience, but nothing should be certain in hunt.
Nice editing.
Thanks!
This isn't entirely true. Still a good video though. Tip:compound will be on the edge of the map 8/10 matches because of statistics. It's dumb and I hate it lol all they need to do is weigh the center compounds a bit more in the spawn pool and it should be better. Don't talk about it on the reddit though because people hate it when you point out annoyances in the game haha
Thanks for the feedback. That makes sense
Ye. It was wild for me. I was merely pointing out how easy it was to predict where the boss will be and that its barely in the center compounds. I was then called stupid because it should be like that due to statistics ( there are more outer compounds than inner therfore it will more likely be on the outside). Then proceeded to get downvoted to hell and back. The last time I checked months ago it was -400 lol my software engineer friend and (funny enough) a software engineer guy on reddit pointed out this could be fixed by making the center most compounds weigh more in the algorithm. He too got down voted to hell and back. It's now a joke with me and my friends. I love hunt but there are tiny things that annoy me. The boss spawn locations being one of them.
Haha, love it. Glad you’re having fun with it, because that’s the healthiest way to deal with these people. So I totally understand the statistics of it and the boss not being in the few center compounds as often, but on second thought I don’t see the relevance for this topic of it likely not being next to a greyed out area of the first clue. Because statistics would say the exact opposite (if your first clue is in a map border compound). Can you elaborate?
They really should, edge bosses make for a lot of running and lost fights
Gutes Video!
ive seen other vids about this. while it can help, its not 100%
Helpful.
this video doesn't match my own observations, even on large maps. while a lot of the time this will lead you to the boss, it's not a hard guarantee, even on larger maps.
that said, I don't think I've seen a counterpoint to this on a single boss map, I think it might actually work there. I'm gonna take some observations over the next few days to try and hammer out the truth.
i should note that i think this is still good advice and will on average get you to the boss faster, so it's still a great tip, just not as reliable as advertised.
I was so excited about doing this video that I forgot to mention it doesn’t work every time, so I put it into the pinned comment. Ever since dropping the video I too came across multiple occasions where it didn’t work and some people even mention single boss maps not working this way. So now I’m collecting data to figure out when and why it does not work as well.
@@killerkadoffel miss old yt annotations, could solve this dilemma.
Dude ,me and my frend tested this and this is not true.
Did you test it for a small boss area? It doesn’t work there because there are too few compounds. After the video I actually stumbled upon a single boss map where it didn’t work as well. But I‘d say this is extremely rare
@@killerkadoffel tested on solo boss ,small boss, large boss everything ,boss can be everywhere ...
Interesting. It works for me. You’re saying that your single boss is often next to a greyed out area that you see from your FIRST clue? How big is your sample size?
@@killerkadoffel 3 rounds in a row yesterday and boss on egde of red line ,i will you send pictures today . Dont get me wrong i want this to be true and save some time in rounds...
I’d love to set up some website where a lot of us can put in our data so we can find out the percentages of the theory being true. I know it’s true for me almost always. Feel free to send me the pics to my gmail, same nickname. Thanks!
I'm sorry I've been tested this a lot as of late it's BS idk if it's cause of a update after this was released but it's not true at all.
Yeah, it’s been a while
It's not work like here anymore
its not true but a good Video. Get Bosses often on the first clue
Thanks for the compliment! The boss can spawn anywhere on the map, so naturally it can also be in the first compound you check. I’m saying it’s very likely not next to the greyed out area that you get after your first clue. There are some exceptions.
But shouldnt you first find 3 clues for max XP?
You could, but keep in mind you're "racing" against the other teams to find/kill/banish the boss, which all together is worth far more XP than those 2 last clues.
Bullshit. I have had games where the big boss shared a border to the first clue area.
Yeah, I guess it’s not 100 %
maybe they don't want to be first
Good point. There is more to winning or having fun than being the 1st at the boss
Not true, within just your first 30 seconds your statement of it not being next to a gray area is wrong.
33 seconds
nice !
yea that is just not true
It really is, just not 100% ;)
WAIT WUT?!?!?!?!?!
I know, right?!
Thats Not True
You deleted my last comment, presumably because it had an imgur link. There were 11 boss lairs and it did not work. Without the ability to post a link, you'll just have to take my word for it.
Edit: youtube deletes comments with imgur links in them, my bad.
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t delete anything. Your comment isn’t up for review either. I would be really interested in those screenshots though, because I’m collecting situations where it didn’t work myself to see if there is a pattern. Did you notice any?
@@killerkadoffel My apologies, CZcams seems to delete comments with imgur links in them. In stillwater Bayou, graves, lockbay, stillwater, and catfish marked the lower boundaries of the northern boss. Despite Catfish being greyed out, Stillwater was the boss.
@@hadeshimself9639 Had the same issue once. Seems like CZcams delete those comments without notifying the channel owner.
@hadeshimself9639 No worries. It's for the best I guess. You never know how ppl would take advantage of others with links in here. Thanks for sharing! I have 2 instances on Stillwater Bayou documented as well. Both were dual boss maps, too. Did you notice it on single boss maps as well?
@mohnkuchenzentrale Thanks for clarifying :)
Why spread misinformation? This is certainly not true and have never been. There is a higher probability of boss spawning in a 2 clue area but thats it. Always has been RNG with the same value set to each clue location on the map. The compunds with 2 clues therefore has higher probability but thats it. Other than that its just roll the dice not much more to it, never has been.
Completely useless information
Just wrong
I don’t think so
wow, this is huge. Is this confirmed? I will keep an eye on it for the next couple of matches. I got now 2.7k hrs and did not know this... 😲
I didn’t check with the Crytek devs ;) But I’ve tested it over lots and lots of rounds and it works out almost always this way with a few exceptions (e.g. small boss area). Happy testing!
@@killerkadoffel so it might very well not be a consciousness decision by the devs but be caused by the algorithm used for deciding lair locations or generating areas depending on which happens first.
I wondered why they would make that decision while also spawning players next to boss lairs
@Bobylein1337 But who wrote the algorithm?
@@killerkadoffel Sure but that doesn't mean that it was intended that you can predict lair locations this way
@Bobylein1337 I’m thinking they had to go the extra mile to implement it this way and not give us a completely randomized grey out. I think player spawns are random, boss spawn locations are random, therefore players can spawn at boss locations, but the grey out is specifically implemented this way.
