I think the bone is like... "a left over" from a previous relationship Lily's character had, where the guy gave her everything. She won't fully let that guy go until Matt's character "gives that much of himself" to her, which he doesn't want to do because that can be very painful.
That or she's some creepy bone collector and put him under the Imperius Curse...
I don't understand anything, nothing make sense, but ok....... Lily is on video, and this is what all matters
This is quite disturbing... but Lily Loveless and Matthew Lewis are both so talented it was still worth watching.
Isn't the bone an analogy for their still born baby? And the girl went crazy over it, which drives the guy mad
The bone probably symbolizes a past lover, and maybe a sacrifice that person in her past made and she can't let go of it, so he's upset that she won't move on and commit to being with him, at the end he understand that he has to make an equal sacrifice for her to commit to him and let go of her past.

The bone(i think) represents their lost child which causes their constant fighting... Out of anger, matthew threw it away. He realizes it and cuts off his arm to replace it.. Well done music video. Metaphorically the bone represents a new life, pure and deep. In the process he loses interest and the girl holds on to the thought everyday, hoping perhaps...she is seen drawing a picture of a hand, and later matthew cuts off his hand as to replace or renew lost love. she takes it nonchalantly and ironically tho. In the end she is seen letting go of a balloon. Note the the hand that had been cut was right and the hand she used to hold the ballon was also right. And then she let's go of the balloon to signify letting go of hoping and of him.
This is just an opinion since most is obviously weirded out by the MV . PS. I love matthew lewis 😍

Aww! Love matt so much! But apparently the music video is about their love. The bone and cloth is there live and he threw his love away. So he did his best to try and replace it. But I all started off so sweet!! 😭

The thing is, the bone is a childs bone, it isnt an adults. It could still be a past lovers bone, but it could also be a sibling who died when they were young, or maybe she had a child, or as I said a lover or someone from her childhood.
The first time I watched it was because of Matt, but now I'm completely enamored with ABOB's music. Now I watch it for them.

What I interpret is somewhat similar. The bone is what's left of Lily's past relationship, and she can't let go, because she still has pulsing feelings to the person she lost, and that's why she draws a hand, because that's what that bone used to be, Matt and her argue because he doesn't want to be compared to that person anymore, he wants her to let go of the past, to be her present, so that's why he cuts off his arm, to give her a sacrifice, to let her know that he'd do anything for her.
I really luv this video and music so much. It's makes me feel better.

As for the lyrics of the song, I think the "filth to be found even in love" is the fact that most people are not capable of completely pure love. It is always tainted by jealousy, insecurity, and fear. A depressing reminder that people are weak and full of flaws even in their most idealistic state. Just IMO, of course.

hi, I don't know if you want to hear mine and my friends theory but we've been working on this a while. We think that the bone and shirt symbolizes an ex or past lover of the girls that she hasn't really forgotten yet and that neville is angry at finding out that she still remembers her ex (her fondling the bone, him getting out of bed when she idnores him to play with bone), so he tries to make her forget somehow (throws bone away), shes super angry and he tries to replace the ex's love w/ his-

This is beyond brilliant. I'm in love.
When she leaves, she takes what is rightfully hers, and in doing so leaves him with a piece missing. This video plays on the idea of missing someone being like "losing an arm," but also points out that his insecurity, or lack of self-worth, shows all the more glaringly when he has pushed her away. I see the video as describing a woman who stands up to emotional abuse and reveals the insecurity and weakness from which it stems.

I'm thinking that the bone is her sense of self-worth. Throughout the relationship, he gets jealous of her independence and wants her to need him more. Then he tries to forcibly take her self-worth away from her, but too late he realizes that this is what made her who she is. He tries to recover it, but he has irreparably broken their relationship. And she, as strong as she is, will always have her self-worth, so when he tried to get rid of it all he did was show her that she must move on.

i interpreted as the bone = her insecurity, a part of her (or so she perceives). he pushes it away when they're together bc he only wants HER, and he doesn't care it while she's still constantly carrying it around, nursing it. he throws it away, hoping she can finally just be HER without turning to it all the time. but she needs something broken to obsess over, to feed her addiction. he gives it to her but she just leaves with it.
just my thoughts. but hey individual interpretation is a thing!

The significance of the boy cutting his arm off, symbolises his devotion to the girl. The colour red (birth of a new ‘life’ - the offering of his love) spattered on the colour blue (the loyalty he has to her) recognised by the girl in the colour white (still innocently driven). She shrouds the arm in blue, pronouncing her loyalty to him and lets go of that ‘old’ existence with the release of the balloon and in doing so, also symbolises the ‘birth’ of her new life with this passionate gesture.

At first I was thinking that the bone was supposed to be symbolic of a previous relationship that he kept trying to make her let go of and she wouldn't and still cared for the old relationship even throughout her relationship with him, but I can't understand why he cut off his arm. I mean yes, I get that it was to give her a new bone, I just don't understand if this was supposed to be symbolic of something. My closest guess was that it was to give her something new to hold onto.
I think it goes like this... She was in a love with a guy who didnt love her back, but then when he died all she could have from him was his bone... so she got obsessed thinking while having the bone she would have the one she loved with her... mathew knew about the guy so threw it away... but because he loves her so much he didnt want her to feel bad, so wanted to give her the bone back...and so she had her love with her again..
