He always reminded me of my uncle (Nam vet, real man's man, didn't sugar coat anything) or of Red Forman: seems like a total jerk, but is actually a good guy who looks out for the ones he cares about.
Fun fact (incase you didn't know): Minerva is the roman godess of wisdom, art and war. So even in canon, it would make sense if she was an absolute queen at roasting (since she is a symbol of intelligence).
