    In The End was easily in S tier just by virtue of cultural impact alone, before factoring in how much of a banger it is. The anime and gaming communities would not have survived the 2000s and early 2010s without the holy trinity of HyperCam 2, Windows Movie Maker, and Linkin Park.

      Post Grunge/Butt Rock appeals more to a younger audience (now are in their mid 20’s to mid 30’s) that are sad.
      The people that listen to Puddle Of Mudd, Nickelback or The Calling or more likely to listen to Dido than Foo Fighters or Muse that are very much Dad bands.

    The fact that Cornell didn't get the kind of copycats that Cobain and Vedder did was honestly sort of a silent way of showing respect, because precious few actually had the technical chops to pull that off and everyone knew that. Neither Cobain nor Vedder were what I would consider singers with a lot of vocal range, even though their vocals were still iconic, while Cornell's vocal abilities could've gone toe-to-toe with some of the best vocalists in rock history.

      The only modern day rock artist that was heavily influenced by Cornell, that could hold a candle, *in my opinion* is Brent Smith of Shinedown. I’m just a few years younger than Anthony and I do wonder if this tier list has so many ‘iconic tunes’ because of our age at the time and being so open and excited about new music and sounds. That early teenage phase is such an impressionable time. Or maybe someone here of a different generation can agree with me also that these songs are absolute bangers! 🔥

    • @tximinoman
      @tximinoman Před rokem +9

      It's because of that, of course. The moment you were a teenager tends to be when a lot of people (not saying this is your or Fantano's case) think music peaked. That's why the old people trope is complaining about "how they don't do music like they used to, man".
      In my head, the best couple of years for music were 2006 to 2008 because I was incredibly excited about it back then. I turned 17 in 06 and we started going to this club that on top of having a room for rap, and a room for electro, had a room for indie rock which was the genre I was really into at the time, also a new (and very short lived) TV channel centered in alternative/indie music appeared that year in my country. Those three years were a time of constant music discovery for me. There was always a new band, a new song, a new album to listen to, and it was very exciting. I started going to as many concerts as I could during that time also.
      Of course when I go back and listen to music from that era I have a lot of nostalgia for it even if I think many of the albums I used to listen back then don't hold up at all.

    Linkin Park may have been the point that Nu Metal went kind of down hill because of how much more "poppy" it became, but damn me if Hybrid Theory wasn't a banger of an album. Literally one of my top 10 albums that I listen on repeat to this day without getting tired of it. There's something about how it merges Nu-metal, industrial metal, elctronic and screamo without any of it sounding corny, topped by Chester Bennington's voice being a gift from the heavens and Mike Shinoda being an outstanding rapper in comparison to every other rap-metal white boy rapper that sux massive balones. The only fault I'd give it is the track Cure for the Itch which is far from being my favorite song ever. 10/10 album in my mind fosho.

      Your summary of that era of Linkin Park is perfect. Speaking of Cure for the Itch, I distinctly remember discovering it back in 2001 or so when I had the CD and was listening through, the song came off as strange but oddly captivating but I couldn't stop listening to it, especially as a 12 year old living through the immediate post-9/11 NYC world. Fast forward to around 2020 when I was doing all kinds of random Spotify deep dives on different artists and I found it again, listening to it through similarly eerie times during the peak of the "empty roads" period that spring. It remains in my regular rotation now for sure.
